1979 Puch Magnum Project Part 1 - Getting it ready to ride

New to me 1979 Puch Magnum MkII which appears stock other than the exhaust. In this video I just wanted to get it running safely so I could take it for a test ride to get a feel for how it preforms before I make any changes.
I am going to be changing the cylinder, adding a roller bearing connecting rod, replacing exhaust and carb along the way.
Just had to top up the transmission fluid, repack the rear wheel bearings, change the spark plug and fill it with fresh fuel mix.
Some of the video is out of order - I started the engine before I adjusted chain tension for example, I edited it together so it would progress more logically.

I rewatch all these videos of yours once in a while to relax :) I just love to watch you do all of this in a methodical organized way.

I did not know these existed, I owned both a Monza and a John player special back in those days ( 1979/ 1980)

I already had 25:1 premix from something else so I used that. I'm still deciding on what oil to use so I didnt want to mention or recommend anything in the video and have it be wrong.

It's an old points system and I think that's an external condenser. Usually its underneath the flywheel on the stator plate. Bearings were all easy to get by searching for their metric sizes on eBay. The crankshaft ones (E17 & E20) are listed as "magneto" bearings and I ordered those from a seller in the UK on eBay (item 190593271656), but VXB had them too.

Hey man can you help me. What is that little chrome cylinder on the side of the coil on the right side of your bike? I know its in the cdi but a external one is better? Do they break easy? And with the ballbearings. Are they easy to get? Thanks :)

At 18:58 you grab a part to tension the rear bolts, what is that part called? I am missing the one on the opposite side of my magnum. Thanks! great video

Never mind, its an axle adjuster, found one on treats that fits. One more question, i cant seem to get the top bolts off of the rear shocks, any advise? Thanks again for great videos

Patrick Madden You'll need two wrenches, one on the nut and one on the bolt from behind otherwise it will just spin and not loosen. If your doing that and it just wont budge then you can either try (in this order) using a bit more force, tapping the acorn nut with a hammer (which may break any corrosion stopping it turn) or gently heating the nut with a blow torch (hold at an angle so the torch flame is going away from the frame) to expand it so it should in theory come off easier.

They were sold here in the 70s and 80s. Very popular during the fuel crisis.
