LOCAL PEOPLE WILL ENJOY THIS BUT TAKE A LOOK AND SEE THE CAR COUNT IN THE PITS. DON'T SEE THAT ANYWHERE CLOSE ANYMORE And Yes they use to make you go fast to get into the by timing your way in or racing your way into the A Main
Excellent video, thank you for sharing this with us. My home track up in Superior, WI did away with time trials part way through the 1978 season. Back in those days, the top 15 in the time trials had spots in the feature regardless of their finishing position in qualifying heats.
Man I loved this place when I was a kid...... My neighbors Ronnie and Margie Wingard raced there. Their car number was 888, it was maroon and gold sponsored by Wayne's Engine Rebuilding. Margie would battle for the win in the powderpuff division (that's what I remember them calling the ladies races). We'd go all the time and watch the races, as a kid I loved the figure 8 races..... often won by Fred Arnold. As kids we always tried to sit in the ends of the grandstands by the corners until we were pelted with dirt clods.
My mother and father raced at corona speedway in late 70s early 80s and were pretty good at it RIP Edward and Shirley Gelia your on my mind every day I love and miss you more every day.
vickie Grabowski your talking about a different race track in corona. grand boulevard in corona now and it’s a big circle this video is of a completely different track. Grand Boulevard race track had houses around it and it’s several miles around,it went around the outside of the city that’s why Corona is called the circle city
I remember the Crazy 8's that used to happen at Corona in the late 70's and early 80's !!!! The cars would pile up at mid track and the Murie bros would win the races !!!
What was the number of their car and what color was it ? Also what division did they race in ? You know like street stocks, super stocks, fig 8 , etc. I have lots of racing footage from Corona so if I find some I will let you know.
Hi David, I saw your post and was wondering if you might have some fotage of my dad in the early 70's. He had a silver 37 chevy with orange number 55. His name is Gary New. I think he ran around 72-75 and he ran circle track, not sure of his class. Thank you for your time. Ted
tnew8869 No it was a little time before I raced after 1975. But try facebook Corona speedway group. They have people who hae things before I raced and you may find something about your dad from them. Larry Lord on facebook is in charge of the postings.
