As a 10yr old girl raised on horror, Temple of Doom and Gremlins was like heaven for me! 1984 was one of THE best years for classic and fun horror, done by smart and talented people. I was all for them! Tho do admit, Doom was indeed a spiritually dark vibe...but still watched it A LOT. I was obsessed with Dreamscape, I cant tell you how many times I watched that movie...along with Night of the Comet. Ghoulies, to this day is one of my all time favorite horror classics...again watched a million times over! Every film you mentioned here I could go on and on about for days! Thanks for the streamline!!! ❤️ Great list!! 👍

Damn 1984 Was A great Year For A lot Of Movies GHOSTBUSTERS, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, THE TERMINATOR, GREMLINS, AND GHOULIES. It's A Shame I Wasn't Born In '84 I Was Born In '87 And I Had To Wait TIll All Of These Movies Came Out On TV Years Later. P.S. JOBLO Can You Cover The Movie Skinner (1993).

Sometimes it can be effective, but I understand most horror fans agree that the PG-13 rating seems to be used as an excuse to be lazy.

No no i dont see it as an excuse to be lazy. I see it as an entry way, to get younger people into the horror genre. My all time favorites from my childhood were PG13 movies that were dark comedies like Beetlejuice, Gremlins and even Ghostbusters scared me when I was little. Even giving me nightmares. But they are still very much beloved by me and always will be. My official first horror was Scream in the mid 90s and I was still under 13. My parents also showed me Army of Dakrness around that time, my sisters and I enjoy that one a lot. :)

I always find it odd on people complain about Temple being so violent! Yes, it is quite a bit darker then the first, but Raiders is so much gorier! I mean look at the climax of that film.

Ikr??? Did they forget about the Nazis' faces melting????
@johnnystorm9389
@johnnystorm9389 11 месяцев назад
The reason for that is that the gore and the bleak, dark tone permeated throughout the whole film of Doom. While Raiders' gore and darkness were backloaded in the final minutes of its climax. Plus, nobody cares about Nazis getting annihilated in a gory fashion.

FUN FACT: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was the film that sparked the PG13 rating, specifically the scene where they are eating dinner. By todays standards it would be seen as a joke, how times have changed.

Another fantastic episode in this excellent series! With respect to ratings, I am also interested to learn more about what led to the creation of the "AA" rating ("Adult Accompaniment" for kids under 14 years) and "NC-17" (which I believe was originally "X").

In the 80’s my dad had a prank war with the lady who owned our local video store. To get back at him, about once a month she would switch one of our movies out for “Troll” in the case of the movie we actually wanted. I could not tell you how many times we watched that stupid movie. At the time we were 30 miles from town and you couldn’t get cable out there, so you just watched what he came home with and he would drop them off on his way to work the following Monday.

I didn't even finish the movie, until i caught it on tv, many years later, when i was 19! I now own it on dvd, a rare copy autographed by Charles Band.

The clever thing they do in Temple of Doom where you think they're being eaten by croccodiles , the horrifying imagery is created in your mind by you. Okay having your heart ripped out by Muderam is a bit more graphic than I remember . But it actually lacks the blood and guts that I remember some how. That must be a creation of my mind. That's probably no accident.

12A (UK) was the worst thing to happen to a dedicated hard core horror fan, when studios would apply "Bums on Seats" logic to water down movies to attract more people, I come from the view if a film series is meant to be horrific then just lower the budget and give us what we want, not compromised watered down rubbish that satisfies no one, I like 18 (NC-17) movies.

I was born in the 83 but obviously remember the 90's more and here in the UK at the time we had 5 ratings. U (universal) for everyone PG generally for everyone but some scenes may be unsuitable for children so Parental Guidance needed 12 Suitable for 12 and above 15 same as above 18 for 18 and above only. I was allowed to watch films from all of these ranges growing but for the more adult rated films my parents had to watch them first.
