Because of working, I missed many of these races. Now retired I can enjoy them whenever I want. So great !! Many thanks to those who post these great memories. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
when all the public and without noise with a moment of silence in homage to the US boyz and very moved with the music I am always very moved to see the respect that the Americans have towards their compatriots we have a lot of lessons to take from you
La Oldsmobile 1990 / ford thunderbird / chevrolet lumina / ford monte carlo / chevrolet monte carlo / pontiac best cars of years 90's for me comparated to today
My first race was in Atlanta that March. A buddy of mine took me. When I heard, saw and yes, even smelled those cars running, I was hooked. I was a junior in high school. Alan Kulwicki won the pole in an unsponsored car, and I was a fan of his until his untimely death in April of 93. These were great times in NASCAR.
In my opinion, the 1991 Daytona 500 was the most competitive 500 of the 90's. You had guys like Joe Ruttman and Rick Mast getting up and leading the race over guys like Earnhardt, Elliott, and Allison
this si what happens when you have the smartest people come up with an idea and noone to tell them they can simplify it lol. didnt realize that lil bit of info, thanks daniel wiki-jackett
Zerex left Alan Kulwicki's team at the end of the 1990 season, and Hooter's wouldn't come on board until Atlanta in 1991, hence the Army car...The other military cars were Buddy Baker (Marines), Greg Sacks (Navy, in a 4th Rick Hendrick car) Mickey Gibbs (Air Force), and Dave Marcis (Coast Guard)
Sacks car was not a Hendrick car. Sacks owned the car himself along with Gary Bechtol's Diamond Ridge Racing and had pit crew help from Hendrick. Sacks lost his ride with Hendrick along with the SlimFast sponsorship after he got a DUI at the end of the 1990 season.
Hooters office is based in ga well one of franchise ....I know now there's hooter of America llc and hooters world wide I think but do know now or one time there office was in Atlanta....I'd say still is cause Napa has chase elliot and hooters some kinda like hometown driver/sponsor thing now.
I missed these races due to being stationed in Germany 89-92. To me this was some of the best racing. When cars had variety. Not cookie cutter cars with different stickers so they look different on camera.
Days of Thunder is what started me into watching NASCAR racing . Then when I saw the Mello Yello car actually out there . I was hooked . My favorite car of the 90’s . I started pulling for Dale Earnhardt later .
"Alright, when you get back out there, I want you to, hit the pace car." "Hit the pace car?" "HIT THE PACE CAR!" "why?" "Because you've hit every other god damn car out there I want you to be perfect!"
I thank god that we can see these old nascar races and i have to say im glad that nascar is an AMERICAN SPORT and this race here SHOWS WHY ITS CALLED THE GREAT AMERICAN RACE WITH MIKE POWELL SINGING MY FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME IM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN THANK U FOR LETTING ME SEE THIS RACE AND GOD BLESS THE USA AMEN
Every time I see Dave Allison’s mom, she is always kinda “tough,” on her son. In his first start, she was asked who she was rooting for, she straight up sided with Bobby, unfazed. Then in this race, she first said she’s proud of Hut!?! I get that’s Bobby’s driver, but really? She only says she’s proud of Dave after bringing up Hut. Edit: Dave supposed to be Davey obviously. iPhone autocorrect of course!
Bobby deserve getting wrecked at the end of the race he refused to concede to Earnhardt and instead of them both going to the front by drafting he had to get into a pissing contest and drive side-by-side. Even though Earnhardt didn't get the win he got to finish and he got to finish fifth. Which is sweet while MR selfish Loser boy had a DNF
man i just miss the culture of nascar as a kid growin up in the 90s goin with my dad to his buddys nascar parties are some of my fondest memories...miss the golden era of nascar...simpler times
3:54:10 "CBS wanted Ernie Irvan to stay in the car until the network came back from commercial, so they would capture his excitement live. Same thing happened almost every week. Someone would cue the driver to exit the car after the network commercial break ended." Mike joy
That #4 car used to be a bullet....It had a unique sound back in those days. Runt Pittman was the mechanic/engineer on those cars and he did something with the headers that really made that thing run.. It sounded like an Indy car out there ...
@2:40.00 David Hobbs "Think I need a gin and tonic liven meself up a little bit" ROFLMAO! Gold! They should do the in car cameras exactly like this broadcast now. CBS got excellent shots from these. It was dramatic without feeling forced. This race is like watching my favorite movie.
Prior to the car of tomorrow, these were the dumbest rule changes in nascar. I had forgotten these silly, punitive rules. COT killed NASCAR, that and brand loyalty out the window. Bill and Mark diving Chevys, vomit.
Fun Fact: The creators of the Daytona USA arcade game actually attended this race and one the them actually watched Days of Thunder over 100 times to take in NASCAR culture.
never liked roush but always liked martin. it was hilarious in his first race in 2007 after leaving roush he was that close to winning it. i cant think of anyone better that didnt win a title. a real shame too.
happens all the time .funny as hell birds are clumbsy and they get scared and this happens I hit A pidgen.grey dust down the side of the car>>>> I could go on

NASCAR was in desperate need of computerized scoring as well as pit stop rules that made sense during this race. This was a confusing mess for absolutely everyone. One of the least enjoyable races ever, although I'm grateful for the uploader for historical record of it.
Penalty for changing tire's. It would seem that NASCAR is more interested in the power of rule making than concern for safety. Make a man drive 2.5 plus miles on a flat tire among car's driving 200 mph. That make's sense. All & all, a very exciting race...
@@lordracer7743 Jerry and Sugar Bear and I began watching Dale Sr in 1991 the year we married. We all three loved watching Dale Sr race in the black #3.The Daytona 1998 win was priceless to watch him win and the joy and glee that we saw that day! On February 18th 2001 we all three watched him be called to Heaven to race for God. We shed many tears on that day and we had a few beers over memories of Dale out on the deck. Dale Sr grew on us and we have never totally gotten over his death. We will be Dale Earnhardt Sr fans forever and look forward to seeing him in Heaven racing for God! Thank you. the Oppermans from Texas and we have been called Dale Earnhardt Sr fanatics. Does not faze us a bit.🐻3️⃣🚖😇🙏🥰
03:51:23 I remember this happening, but it's not something you see very often. Love or hate #3, he didn't make many unforced errors out there on the track.
The 11th year of NASCAR Racing on Philippine Television started with the 33rd Daytona 500 which was held at the Daytona International Speedway. This race was produced by SilverStar Communications, Inc. and aired via tape delay on GMA Radio-Television Arts on February 18, 1991 at 8:00 P.M.
Good lord, those pit road rules are absurd. It's silly that they even had to try them out before just saying "hey you know, maybe a speed limit on pit road would do the job" a couple months later. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one.
I got a good feeling about these new pit rules. Really simple. Yeah, my sarcasm is at 1000. It was a knee jerk reacrion that required a math degree to understand.
@smifftv hi, I was wondering if you had the 1998 Daytona 500. I see you have every Daytona 500 posted nearly, except that one. So if you cm have it, please post it.
WIKI: In a March 2016 "Where Are They Now?" article with (site), Stricklin mentioned that he recently went to work for an old friend at Stock Car Steel in Mooresville, NC. He also mentioned that one of his biggest missed opportunities was when he chose not to take an offer to drive for Joe Gibbs' new Winston Cup Series team in 1992.
@@Viper8828 Gotta remember, at the time Joe Gibbs was an NFL coach coming off a Super Bowl win wanting to get into racing. Most people didn't think he'd come in and be real competitive anytime soon and a lot of people thought he was in over his head and just getting into NASCAR as a hobby.
@@JSchaffer214 Many think that about Jordan and 23XL right now. Two wins so far. JGR only had a very small amount of wins till they switched to Pontiac they started gaining steam in late 90s into 2000s. 23XL will catch up to Trackhouse.
putting this great style of racing to one side, can anyone tell me, is the water in the centre fresh or sea water? what is it's function? Purely for radiators? And now back to the Action!🙃
Maybe the most boringest race in televised nascar history, but still an important one, and a fascinating broadcast to listen to (at least the live feed). it was clear after 1990 that pit stops needed to be regulated in some way. but this clearly wasn't the way.
i know if i do driving gloves ill usually go for fingerless, like the feel of the wheel but the extra padding on the palm is nice so im kind of surprised he didnt use those but hes old school lol, with as many ppl that had open face helmets back then, i find it funny that petty decided to go to that but not wear fire proof gloves. lol characters will be characters
Viper8828 in all other forms of motorsports gloves have been compulsory for many decades. Even before WWII gloves were used simply because lots of drivers got their hands burnt without them.
1:00:47 = This has to be THE MOST convoluted pit road procedure I have ever seen!! Bill lost a lap because of this Bull Shit. Even in THE GOOD OLD DAY'S nascar kee jerked!!
