Highlights of the 1994 National Championship between the Razorbacks and Blue Devils. The Hogs, who were making their first ever title game appearance, would lead 34-33 at the break, but Duke would storm out to a 48-38 lead early in the second half. Arkansas would rally and eventually take the lead for good, 73-70, on a late Scotty Thurman three-pointer as the shot clock expired. The Razorbacks would then hold on to win 76-72 to claim their first National Championship. Arkansas finished with a 31-3 record while Duke finished 28-6.

Something that is not talked about enough is the fact that Arkansas defeated 5 consecutive national championship coaches in the 1994 tournament. Starting with the second round they defeated: John Thompson (1984), Tubby Smith (1998), Steve Fisher (1989), Lute Olson (1997) and Coach K (5 titles). I don't think any other team has ever done that.
@sickofguysnamedtodd2293

And then the next year they beat Jim Boeheim, Larry Finch, Jeff Jones and Dean Smith. Not all won championships but that’s an impressive list of coaches that Nolan Richardson got the best of over a two year span.

As a Duke fan. This was a classic and a very good game. Arkansas was the better team and deserved to.win. Had no answer for Corliss Wiiliamson. I was so proud of my Duke squad because they overachieved and werent even picked to go to the finals that year ...and Scottie Thurman shot omg. One of the greatest shots in NCAA finals history. I was happy for Coach Richardson

Scotty was small in high school, but he could shoot lights out. So his coach would hold up a broom for him to shoot over. No one recruited him in high school, except Arkansas. And in his senior year he had a growth spurt of 6 inches. And he signed with Arkansas. That shot that beat duke, was because of Scotty shooting over a broom stick his entire high school career.

Scottie, His dad and my step dad worked together. We lived in south Louisiana, he lived in North Louisiana. Our families were very close. They were like my family. I love them forever. Scottie is 7 years older than me. When I was in junior high, He used to mail me his actual report cards from high school as inspiration. StraightAs He would send me a letter with it to motivate me. How blessed I was. God is good. When they won the championship I took a bus at age 12 to Ruston by myself and stayed with the Thurmans for a week to celebrate. I was the only person of my skin tone for miles and miles. Every person in that town treated me like family and I’ll never forget. I wondered why he didn’t make the league. Then decades later it dawned on me. It’s because he wouldn’t sell his soul. This man was more talented and has more heart than Jordan and Kobe and anyone else you could name. He is a man of faith and he Chose God over stardom. It doesn’t get more stand up than this man. I am not a fan of men, but this one man I look up to. Respect to the Hogs for two things: 1. Beating Duke in this title game 2. Getting the hell out of a Texas run conference and being before their time. 20 years later, my Huskers saw the same light the Hogs saw all those years ago. That is quite frankly the thing we have the most in common with U of Arkansas. Loved watching those Nolan Richardson teams in the day as well.

I'm 50 years old, and I remember the days of Eddie Sutton. I remember the days of the triplets. Shaw and Hastings. Younger people look them up. I remember the day broyles hired Nolan. I remember thinking your bringing this up tempo guy from Tulsa to run our program. When we have nothing but slow down players. But, in the end, he won a national title. Now in 2018, I'm still alive to see our football program hire a up tempo guy. To run an up tempo offense. Am I seeing history repeat itself. Young people watch, you will be me in the years to come.

@cm9241

No, they wouldn't. I don't understand how oldhead boomers like you seem completely incapable of acknowledging the passage of time. The game is different. Kawhi Leonard would destroy any of these players on defense and Steph, KD, Harden, etc would outscore any of them. Sorry, that's just objective truth. The difference in caliber between professional and collegiate athletes is massive.

There is always that one Duke player that people dislike and I had this huge dislike of Parks! He was so smug and hated the smirk on his face throughout the game. I always had a feeling that playing the Razorbacks was beneath him and his Duke teammates! Even in the 21st century the Razorbacks still don't get the respect they deserve!
