Highlights of Arkansas' 76-68 victory over Michigan and the "Fab Four." The win advanced the Hogs to their first Final Four since 1990. Stats: www.hogstats.com/boxscore.php?...
Man....hard to believe this was 23 years ago. I was sittin' in my dorm room as a freshman in college watching this game. Where does the time go?!! SMH....
I remember I was too nervous to watch so I went for a long drive and told my mom to call my on my first cell phone when it was over. That cell phone had a battery you carried in a bag and a cord. Still seems like it wasn’t that long ago lol.
Lot of people forget Michigan even without Webber was still formidable enough to flirt with the possibility of a 3rd straight Final Four. The difference in this game? Michigan had no capable bench guys. In previous years, Jake Voskuhl and Rob Pelinka were key contributors. Good starting 4, but they didn’t have those same depth guys
After my Georgetown squad got put out in the 2nd round, these were my two fav teams left in the tourney. Hated to see one of em have to go out before the Final Four. But in the end, I'm glad the head coach that looks like me (Nolan Richardson) was able to eventually win the natty that year. 😊
Yep. Lifetime 54-year-old Hog fan living in Louisiana here. But honestly they were EVEN better in 1995. Until Toby Bailey(yeah...remember him?) went unconscious and almost single-handedly won the National Championship against the Hogs for UCLA. Only that super-human effort prevented a two-peat for those Hogs) As a native Arkansan from Little Rock, I grew up idolizing Sidney Moncrief (and the other 'Triplets' Delph and Brewer to a lesser degree)and those great Eddie Sutton-led Razorback teams of the mid to late 70s. I bleed Razorback Red much to the chagrin of my mostly-LSU-leaning coworkers. I remember hearing about the half-court buzzer -beating heave by U.S. Reed to knock out the unbeatable Louisiville team while on vacation . I remember watching Darrell "Sky" Walker and Alvin Roberston play Texas Tech in-person several times in the 80s in my new town of Lubbock, Texas. I remember how close the Hogs were to the powerhouse Houston Phi Slamma Jamma squads.. what EPIC battles those were. I screamed like a fool when Charles Balentine put the final nail in top-ranked North Carolina and MJ in Pine Bluff. I'm a Hog fan cradle-to-grave . I'm so excited to see the development and re-establishment of a national power in men's basketball once again. I was beyond thrilled when I learned that Muss was taking over considering what he had accomplished with his Nevada squads. With the number 2 overall recruiting class(three 5 stars plus 4 high 4 stars) plus several returning starters from the last Elite 8 squads(Jalin PLEASE come back! 🤞) and the portal edition of Missouri's best big, the piglets of next season have the makings of a dominant squad and potentially something very special. Woo Pig Soooooiiiie y'all! The halcyon days of dominant and or on-the-rise Hog basketball and football(well.. as much as can be expected in the meat grinder SEC West) has arrived once again. It's great to be a Razorback!
@@competitivejunkie I don't think so, remember, Michigan was good, but NOT good enough to win the title! The same NC team they lost too in the Natty was the same NC team that the refs help Cheat the game away from Arkansas in the Sweet 16 when our guys were FRESHMEN! We had NC beat until the REFS stepped in and SECRURED the victory for their good ole boy Dean Smith!
This Arkansas team was strong down in the paint it seemed like everything they put up went in. Too tough to beat, I was surprised Duke hung with them as close as they did.
I was torn over this game..I was born & raised in Michigan , but my parents were born / raised in Arkansas & my dad is huge Hogs fan while me & my bros were Wolverine fans
That Arkansas team was so tough. Big Nasty Corliss Williamson was too strong for most college forwards. They could kill you inside or outside and they just kept coming at you relentlessly. I guess that's why they called it 40 minutes of hell. Michigan had no depth on that 94 team at all. After the Fab 4, the talent dropped off big time. I'm surprised they made it to the Elite 8. I think the next season Fisher brought in that recruiting class with Mo Taylor and Maceo Baston and then Tractor Traylor and Lou Bullock came next.

In previous years, Jake Voskuhl and Rob Pelinka were key contributors. Good starting 4, but they didn’t have much beyond those big 4
@@chrisuncleahmad yeah the Fab 5 got all the hype of course but the previous 2 teams had crazy depth with Pelikan, Voskul, Eric Riley and Mike Talley. They were deep
@@chrisuncleahmad Yeah man dude could shoot it for sure. Him and Rob Pelinka would habe started for a lot of teams. The Fab 4 team had the 4 starters and I don't think I could name another player on that team
@@matthewboler9061 Yes he did, against Georgetown in the 2nd round. One of the announcers made a comment during one of the games saying how Arkansas was doing all of this without one of their best players.
@@About36Greekss You mean lost by 30! Dude he left for the NBA because they COULD NOT win the Natty and he realized he was wasting his time! Williamson would have beaten him to a pulp anyway, they faced each other in HS situations and Corliss DOMINATED Weber!
Lol at 5:13 when Billy Packer said of Darnell Robinson “he’s going to be a good one”. I thought so as well at the time. If anything he regressed not progressed after his freshman season. Not sure what went wrong with him. To a lesser extent the same thing can be said of Lee Wilson, they were from the same class and showed promise as freshmen, after that it appeared they forgot how to play basketball.
@@WARMACHINE2013 Wow you are correct I looked it up as i actually hadn’t recalled that, 29th player drafted overall by Dallas. His Wikipedia page seemingly has him playing 0 minutes in the NBA.
Well after 1995, the Razorbacks lost 8 players. Six seniors (Beck, Stewart, McDaniel, Elmer Martin, Rimac, Dillard) then two juniors, Williamson and Thurman left early. They didn’t have the same kind of team in 96 which is why it was surprising they made it to the sweet 16 that year despite losing almost all their championship players.
Arkansas hadn't really been tested in the tournament yet - beat the 16 seed, a mediocre Georgetown team, and then a Cinderella 12-seed Tulsa prior to this. This game gave them the championship mettle they would need in the final against Duke because it was a very similar type game.
You can tell in this game that Michigan miss Chris Webber and Eric railey if they had one of them to go with juwan Howard who was playing like a all american they beat Arkansas Michigan was to small.
eddie Bullshit, Nolan Richardson was the winnigest coach of the 90s up to that point, nobody had an answer for Williamson, and Scotty Thurman was one of the best pure shooters in the game. Tired of people acting like we were lucky, we werent. Nobody in the country that year had the stamina to keep up with 40 minutes of hell, and the only thing Webber and that bunch ever won, was violations . The razorbacks only lost 3 games that year, and only lost those because they had off shooting nights.
@@derrickennemer5050 I'm not sure the intent was to badmouth Arkansas, but to point out that Arkansas had a big size advantage. Whether or not Michigan would have beaten them is speculation.
Dude, they barely beat Michigan without Webber, it was 71-68 with a minute left in the game. The Fab 5 with Webber would've ran circles around Arkansas 😂😂
@@edwarddegalan107 Sure we all remember the underachieving Michigan wolverines for phucking up in the most embarrassing way. Stop being so bitter and take a time out😁. Oh wait you’re out of time outs hehe.
@@averydaymond1560 I'm not being bitter, just stating an opinion backed with facts. Calling the Fab Five (or Four) "underachieving" is suspect. True - they didn't win any titles. However, they made it into the Finals twice as Freshmen and Sophomores - but because they didn't win the NC they're underachievers? Win it all or be underachievers... Sounds salty to me. I understand that the Fab Five are notorious. I get that. Congrats to the Razorbacks on their NC. I take nothing away from their accomplishment. Their ESPN documentary was very cool. As NC's they deserve that. The Fab Five have actually had more documentaries than that - good, bad or indifferent - the nation knows who they are. Who else has that as two time runners up? Granted that a lot of that is due to the scandal. That time out was embarrassing too. Oh well...
@@edwarddegalan107 Hhmm well ok fair enough but I’ll say the “underachiever” is Chris Webber. The other four did the most they could with the talent they had. Webber was a incredibly gifted athlete. I can’t recall any basketball player that size being able to jump that quick from a standing point. But Webber had a equally amazing opponent that stopped his inside close to the basket skills, HIMSELF. He kept wanting to play the wing and took himself away from the basket especially in his prime years. I was actually rooting for his Sacramento kings team against the lakers and was puzzled as to why he wasn’t spending more time inside on offense. Webber is a nice guy and all but was not a smart basketball player, hence the underachiever label.
Dude this isn't even a conversation. If Webber plays in this game Michigan runs Arkansas off the floor. By 30. A 40 minute FAB FIVE JAM Session. Truthfully, if Webber returns for a 3rd season Michigan goes undefeated and wins a title in run away fashion.
Didn't this Arkansas team beat the same Duke team that had just beaten Michigan with Chris Webber on the court, but somehow you think they would have beaten Arkansas by thirty, come on man now you just being foolish. But way to cheer on your team I guess, but come back to reality when you get a chance, lol
Umm no, just no. Y'all fell victim to 40 minutes of hell, just like everybody else. Don't be salty because a bunch of backwards Arkansas Razorbacks beat you. Besides y'all never won anything with Chris Webber, except NCAA violations.
It would have been a lot closer. To see Webber and Corliss go at it would have been great. Both teams had bench depth. But, that year Arkansas had bench depth in the post and at guard who could all shoot. This game would come down to shooting and turnovers. Both teams liked to run. But, Arkansas's pressure defense broke offenses.
