Cleveland would force Game 5 after Sandy Alomar's home run tied Game 4 in the 8th, then Omar Vizquel's RBI single won the game in the 9th.

The most magical series of the 90's for the Tribe. The next round vs Balt was insane, as nearly every game was decided in the last AB minus games 1 and 5

Bip Roberts is an often overlooked, critical acquisition in that ‘97 run.

LOL Game 7 of the '97 World Series, Bip Roberts was initially in the starting line up. But he told Mike Hargrove "I have a tummy ache. Can't play". So Tony Fernandez was inserted at second base instead. Bip just didn't want the pressure of a game 7. And Fernandez committed the 11th inning error that lost the Series. So my memories of the guy aren't as fond as yours.

@@TheMrSugelol your reasoning makes zero sense. The game should never have went to the 11th.

I was there. Giles throw in the first was huge and we all knew it at the time.

There's no way Grissom isn't scoring on that last play, but...until this rewatch I never realized that Raines's throw from LF was even remotely close to having a chance if Marquis had hesitated or tripped or whatever. Either way...That was one hard-fought series. Gooden coming out of nowhere to start for NY allowing 1 run into the 6th was pretty impressive at that point in his career. Plus Cleveland's ability to conjure up the 'big moment' when they needed it...I remember we really enjoyed this whole postseason in my dorm room Freshman year of college.

The loudest I’ve ever heard the Jake. Breaking through in innings 7-8-9, innings the Yankees owned for years was no easy feat. Changed the whole postseason dynamic that year.

Sports aren't like this anymore. So much passion and energy in the stadium.

Social media, technology advancement with phones, and TV no longer being relevant, pretty much ruined sports.

Guessed you missed the passion and the energy at Progressive Field in last year's post season. The Rays and the Yankee series games were electric.

We all remember the core players like Thome, Ramirez, Belle, Lofton (okay, not there in '97), Omar, etc. but just seeing some of the other names. I barely remember Bip Roberts being an Indian. Couldn't have recalled Pat Borders on the Tribe on a bet, and Kevin Seitzer. Great memories. I'm 60+. Younger fans are used to postseason stuff. The Indians were never competitive during my first 3 decades so this stuff probably means more to us. I don't live in Northeast Ohio anymore. My sister says Indians fans are kind of jaded, saying things like "no reason to get excited, they'll choke at the end". As soon as training camp opens, the Browns dominate sports attentions, Tribe attendance falls off. Shame.

@@thejmc4074 Sierra foothills northern Nevada. May not always be warmer but no humidity. Love it. Tried Florida for a while. Hated it. I need more seasons than ultra humid and slightly less humid.

I agree on Bip Roberts. Kind of the same with Brian Giles. How sweet beating the Yankees in the playoffs.

I am right there with you Carseye1. I have moved away since those great days, I was actually in high school and college when the 90's and early 2000's. The problem is now ownership being so cheap. They will never contend because every time they get a prospect and bring him up the system, they let him go as soon as he produces. They will never pend money and therefore, can never compete with any of the heavyweights. It's pretty sad, but it's the truth. Most recently, look at the pitching rotation they just got rid of, three cy young pitchers, amazing. It's like management lost a bet years ago that they can never win a world series again or else forfeit the team.
