My man! Saved the day with this one.. long story short my 98 civic lx was stalling out of nowhere. Pulled codes; was reading o2 sensor failure so I replaced it and then it stalled again later that day. Stumbled upon your video this morning before I replaced the o2 sensor and once it happened again I knew it had to be this relay. Car would stall and start back up perfectly fine around 5 min later. Replaced this relay and just did a 2 1/2 round trip w absolutely no problems same day. Thanks for the video! Happy Holidays!
This fixed my 2000 Honda Accord. Saw no obvious cracks in the solder joints but could cause the car to stall or not turn on by physically tapping the main relay box. Took it apart and re-flowed all the solder joints and added a bit more fresh solder. Back in the car, can’t get it to stall no matter how hard I tap and jostle the main relay box. I was about to buy a new immobilizer and ignition switch. I’ve even looked at this before and thought it couldn’t be the issue. Glad I came across this video a few months later and just tried it again. Thanks!
Omg you are car saver, I was ready to junk my 2000 CRV. One of the soldering joints was cracked at the bottom edge. My car would drive to town without stalling first thing in the morning or in cooler weather, but once the outside temperature would rise, it would take me 2 hours to make the 23 minute drive home. It would stall then I would have to wait 15 minutes before it would crank again, only for it to stall in 1000 feet to a couple of miles (depending on how hot it was outside). Thank you so much for this video!
Ya know i have been looking. And i am hoping main relay is the issue. Though when i put key to acc or on position i get no green key to tell me it knows its the chip key. Very great description and couple pieces of advice
I just now replaced that part, same symptom, mine would die on the interstate when I was running it hard, 15-20min goes by she fires right up, 72 bucks out the door at Advance Auto. The new one has surface mount IC packs on the circuit board instead of 2 small (through-hole) relays. You can't hear it. But the pump works and it runs. I'll have to drive it and see if it still does it or not over time.
My relay was warped and shut off on me 3 times the first 2 car started right away 3rd time heard no pump or click. Replaced it so hope it was that. Had to replace my alternator recently so my pockets are being emptied right now😢
Check the ignition switch, and clean it the grease and out back. That's how I fixed my 2002 MDX engine idle. No need to buy a replacement. Just clean it and put back.
It’s probably your ignition switch, my car would do the same thing and i recently replaced it myself. On my 1999 civic i looked up if there was a recall and there was one for an ignition switch.
i just replaced the ignition switch in my 2010 honda civic and problem solved !!!!! the car was shutting off while driving and hard starts , so easy to change and cheap only $70 , honda is known for bad ignition switches and there was a recall for that !
