1/2" Drive 18mm Deep Socket
1/2" Drive 15mm Deep Socket
Mechanics Seat
Wire Brush, Small
Shop Rag
****** If you use a Torque Wrench set it on 70lb's or higher so you won't damage the wrench. when Tightening set it to the correct Torque Spec or just snug them up.
Torque Wrenches are NOT Breaker bars and can be damaged.
If you set the Torque higher than the bolt will come loose it's HIGHLY unlikely that the wrench will be damaged. Cheap 1/2" Torque Wrenches are around $39.00 dollars, cheaper than a shorter 1/2" drive ratchet and they provide more leverage so that's why you see me use them a lot in my videos. I have done this for over 30years and have NEVER damaged a Torque Wrench, I've even taken them to a calibration lab to have them checked with no damage or drift in torque. So using a Torque Wrench as a breaker bar or as a ratchet is VERY UNLIKELY to damage it, however using it at the incorrect setting WILL damage it. Use your Torque Wrench in the manner you wish at your own risk.
Nay Sayers, don't waste your time I WILL laugh at you for just repeating what someone else has told you, with NO facts to back it up. Then I will laugh at your inexperience in this area. Remember I've got 30 years doing it that way with NO problems or damage to my Torque Wrenches. With a Calibration Laboratory verification. If you have proof put a video up and link me, otherwise you're just repeating unfounded information.
Comments welcome, to expound on my video to help others. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

Thank you for the safety tips - I came EXTREMELY close to being crushed under a car as a teenager when the vehicle slipped off the jack stands. For the last 45 years (yes, I'm now old - haha!) I always leave the jack in place, slide the tire under the car, and double check the jack stands.

It's been awhile since I watched my own video, but it's something I try to put in all my videos that involve raising and crawling under a vehicle. When I was about 16, I'm old now too, my brother in law and dad removed a drive line on a car that was on a slopping driveway. They forgot to chock the wheels and when they removed the Driveline the car rolled off the jack stands and on top of them. They had placed extra safety blocks under the car and it saved their lives, something I never forgot. I was also in the U.S. Navy and we used to have Safety Briefs. In several of the briefs, over the 20 years I was in, there would occasionally be one where a service member had a jack fail and the car would fall and crush them to death. One in particular was about a 1st Class Petty Officer who's wife came home to find her husband dead under their car in the driveway. I never forgot those events. Thanks for watching and the relevant comment. Best Wishes & Blessings. Be safe my friend. Keith Noneya

Yep shops do cost money, remember though that you're not just paying for the part you're also paying for the convenience and the overhead they have. They have to pay the mechanics sometimes even if no work comes in, or they loose them and their skills. As a home mechanic the only overhead we have is if we rent a tool. They have, just to name a few: 1. Building Rent, plus taxes. 2. Licenses, Government Overhead. 3. Sales Taxes, Government Overhead. 4. Matched SSN for Employees, Government Overhead. 5. Heath Care programs, Government Mandated Overhead. 6. USAGE FEES, Government Overhead, Usage Fee is if you "OWN" equipment, you have to pay the government to use your own equipment every year even if you own it and paid the purchase taxes on it. 7. Inventory Tax, If you have inventory, parts etc., left over at the end of the year you have to pay a second tax on it to keep it, Government Overhead. 8. Property Tax, Government Overhead. 9. Grounds/Building up keep, no one wants to go to a dump to get their vehicle fixed. 10. Electricity, plus taxes. 11. Sewage & Water plus taxes. 12. Garbage, plus taxes. 13. Hazmat Fees and Licenses, plus taxes. 14. If you have anything left over at the end of the year and turn a profit then you get to pay income tax on it! 15. Web fees, plus taxes. 16. Phone fees, plus taxes. 17. Corporate fees if you have a franchise, plus taxes. 18. Oh I forgot one, You have to pay those grumbling Employee's and others too! You see to start a business you have to be crazy, you put up all the cash, and put liens on everything you own so that if you go out of business you loose everything. Then the Government comes in and says give us some, "Mafia Style Protection Money" or sorry wrong words, see #'s 2 thru 8 above. Then you get to deal with the Socialist Employees and Unions that come in and say: "Hey man you're rich we want equal shares". I only found this out because I have a friend who has over a million dollars in equipment. When times got tough I said why don't you just close up shop for awhile or scale back. He laughed and said they Government would come and take all my equipment. Then he explained Usage Tax, Inventory Taxes and the rest to me, I was totally shocked at how hard it is to stay in business in the US, I had no idea the Government was sticking it so hard to employers in our country. So yes they want $400.00 bucks to install those shocks. Oh I forgot another one, Legal fees for lawyers to protect you from all those Sue happy customers, scammers and Union or bad employees that show up constantly, and want their "fair Share". Like Obama and the Socialist Democrats say, "They Need to Pay, their Fair Share!" In the words of Dr. Raymond Cocteau, "Be Well" LOL Best Wishes n Blessing Keith, and that is your business lesson for today folks.

It’s a great video! But I would never use a torque wrench to loosen a nut like that
@keithnoneya
@keithnoneya 2 года назад
Thanks for the nice comment the Torque Wrench makes a cheap long Ratchet. If you put the setting all the way up you can use it as a ratchet with absolutely not damage or ill effects to the Torque Wrench, but you have to remember to raise the level or you could seriously damage it. After you remove the bolt make sure and lower the setting all the way down before storing it. If the bolts are really corroded or you expect the torque to be higher than the Torques Wrench can go, use a Breaker Bar instead. If the Torque Wrench is an expensive one then I wouldn't recommend it, so if you can afford a long 1/2" drive Ratchet or a Breaker Bar that would be the better way to go in every instance. In this case I knew the bolts weren't on very tight so I got lazy and didn't feel like using the Breaker Bar. Glad you liked the video other than that and I hope it helped. Best Wishes & Blessings. Hi Dave from the comments below most folks tell me they have had great success with Bilsteins and KYB's. The ones I took off were KYB's. I drive in car pool and it was my turn to drive the next work day. So I just chose some adequate shocks off the shelf at the auto parts store. If I had had more time I would have chosen either of those two I mentioned. eBay will give you the best price and Amazon the quickest shipping, if you have Prime. Hope all works out good for you. Follow the links in the description above to those shock choices and more. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

Hi Mike! Thanks for the Happy Father's Day Text. The back ones are pretty easy too, but you have to remove the spare tire to get to the top bolts. Other than that it's pretty easy. @keithnoneya
@keithnoneya 4 года назад
After doing some research I'm not entirely sure. If you have the 4wd I believe it is, if you don't have the 4wd I don't think so. The 4wd I think uses leaf springs up front so it's just like the 99-2003, but if you have a 2wd it has swing arms and the top of the front shocks have a stud rather than a loop hole. you can see the difference in shocks here: www.1aauto.com/search?q=shock+absorber&year=2004&model=2162&searchQuery=shock+absorber Mine is a 2001 4wd with leaf springs. If you have the leaf springs use this video. If you have the swing arm use "innocuous_name" video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BGQh3UhgNKc.html Hope this helps with the confusion. Yep I sure am. They were great until they blew the seals and sprayed oil all over the shocks and my truck started riding like Uncle bucks car. I just put those on it until I got some better shocks. Also I wanted to make a video on how to change the shocks not on the types of shocks. I drive in carpool and I had to have those shocks on that night, and I wasn't about to pay retail for the KYB's at an autoparts store, so those went on that night. those kyb shock you pulled off are 10 times better than what you put on
@keithnoneya
@keithnoneya 7 лет назад
Yep you are 100% right. One exception, the condition of the shocks they were leaking oil as the seals were bad. Also since I only drive the freeway now so the ones I put on will do the same job on the freeway at half the price. It's not that I don't want the best, I do, I'm just not willing to pay for something I can take the full advantage of until I need it. I've owned the truck for years and have only used FWD twice. I purchased it to tow a trailer and go live out in the desert after my step mom died and my dad needed me. The trailer got stolen before we could get insurance on it and my dad got over his depression while we were in court trying to resolve it. Didn't see a need to sell that nice truck so we kept it knowing we would use it on the family 400 acre farm some day. Until that day comes I occasional haul sheet rock and building supplies. Thanks for the link, I looked them up and put it in the description. I actually look fwd to the day I can have a good reason to go off road and upgrade the truck for it. The one you saw that I took off was the good one of the two. The other one was pretty bad. I think they have been on that truck for 10 years or longer. The new ones definitely made a big difference in the passenger side ride. I felt like Uncle Buck going down the road. Wish I had spent a few extra bucks and bought the KYB's they look cooler! Hi Craig, my truck isn't lifted, and I don't off road it. I would check out some forums or go to the manufacture who produced your lift kit and ask them what they recommend. If it's a no name kit, do some research on other kits of the same height and design, then use the recommended Shocks for those kits. Hope that helps point you in the right direction. Just a word of caution, its not the best idea to jack it by the differential, on the front drivers side I use the U plate. Yes is angled but if you put your finger back behind there its a thick plate. If you do have to jack it by the pumpkin make sure you arent putting any stress on the seals. I heated my bolts up cuz blaster wasnt working, melted that little plate that keeps the nut from moving. . . Also broke one of the hangers on the rear. Anyhow thanks for the video

Wow that's a real bummer, glad it all worked out. I suppose you're right on the pumpkin, but I've been jacking up vehicles by the pumpkin for years and have never had a problem. I guess there's always a chance that the pumpkin or axle tubes could bend. Thanks for the tip and comment just the same. Best Wishes n Blessings Keith

@keithnoneya
@keithnoneya 7 лет назад
Not sure you should do this by yourself, for safety reasons I would get a friend familiar with doing vehicle maintenance to help you. Not trying to be condescending, I just want to make sure you're safe. Vehicle maintenance can be deadly if you're not familiar with all the safety issues involved. It's not worth it to get a crushed foot, leg, hand or have an accident because the procedure was not up to snuff. If you do decide to do this by yourself, which I don't recommend, see your service manual, usually a Haynes or a Chiltons. They usually have great advice and you can get them at most automotive stores. They cost around $25.00 and they'll help get up to speed on the safety issues. I make these videos for entertainment purposes or for those who are familiar with vehicle repairs. I have to say entertainment because I can't be there to watch and guide everyone who might do this. Vehicle maintenance can be a lot of fun but it can also get you into a dangerous or deadly situation if you something wrong. So always play it safe, if you know what you're doing it's pretty safe but if not get someone to help you who is. It's best to get someone to teach you. Especially when it comes to Suspension, Brakes and fuel related items, oh and airbag systems too. Hope this guides you in the right direction. Play it SAFE! Best Wishes n Blessings. Kieth PS feel free to ask any questions I will always try to give you the best answer I can. Someone taught me too, my dad, and some friends along the way. Again BWnB. Keith

yes. you can remove the shock without jacking up the truck. shocks do not support the weight of the truck. They dampen the springs so the ride stiffens and you're not bouncing around. It's advised to jack up the truck though and remove the tire because it will allow for more room to take off the old shock and install the new one.

would this be similar to changing the front shocks of a 2000 Ford explorer
@keithnoneya
@keithnoneya 8 лет назад
+David Morales I really don't know. I do know that they have similar suspensions. The way I found out if it will fit a vehicle is I look up the part on ebay or Amazon or a Auto Parts Store to see if it fits in the same family or model of vehicle. If in doubt look up the part number I've listed in the comments and see if it's interchangeable, then remove the front tire and look to see if it's mounted the same way, if it is then I would say yes. Good luck with it David hope my suggestions lead you to the answer you're looking for. Best Wishes n Blessings.

@keithnoneya
@keithnoneya 6 лет назад
Hi AZ Charlie 2009. I looked it up in my Haynes maintenance manual and I found the jacking section and points. I read it and it didn't say it couldn't be used. I cold see possibly why on the 7.3 as it's a very heavy engine. However I've been using the pumpkin/differential for a jacking point for 30 plus years on vehicles and have never had a problem on any vehicle I've done that on. I use that point on the truck for the reasons mentioned in order to put the jack stands in. I do use those suggested jack points for the jack stands to support the vehicle for maintenance. Thanks for the comment and watching, I do hope other than the jack points the video was helpful to you. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith Noneya

Torque wrench is not a breaker bar
@keithnoneya
@keithnoneya 3 года назад
Lol the old one in my garage is. It's the cheapest long 1/2" ratchet you can buy. Also if you set it on the highest setting and then use it as a ratchet it won't hurt it. But have to remember to set it high before you use it as such and you must remember to set it at the lowest setting before you store it, or yes you can permanently damage it. I've used my old one that way for decades and took it to an actual calibration shop and it was just fine. I do have a new one that I don't treat that way tough. Thanks for caring enough to mention it. Best Wishes & Blessings.

would bad shocks cause a rattleing noise on bumps
@keithnoneya
@keithnoneya 8 лет назад
Very unlikely unless the mounts are loose or internally they are broken. Usually when they go bad your truck or car will bounce up and down a lot. Kinda like Uncle Bucks car, movie reference there but very true. I had a similar problem with my truck it turned out to be two things. The Sway Bar bushings and the Sway Bar Links. See the Super EASY Bushing Replace here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zVTJwUBHiBo.html Other usual causes are the Tie Rod ends and the Drag Links. I've replaced all of those on my truck and that fixed the problem. Feel free to ask any other questions if i'm on line i'll do my best to answer them. That is a torque wrench not a breaker bar
@keithnoneya
@keithnoneya 5 лет назад
LOL, it is for me. Those CHEAP Torque wrenches cost way less than ANY 1/2" breaker bar or 1/2" Ratchet. The trick is you HAVE to set it at the highest setting OR you COULD damage it. I wouldn't do this to an expensive torque wrench, that would be kinda stupid. I used a cheap one for 10 years in the manner I said. I took it to my friends Calibration Lab and he said it was still within specifications. So can you hurt it, maybe it depends on how you use it. If it couldn't take it reliably at a high setting anyways it wouldn't be much of a torque wrench would it? So for expensive torque wrenches, NO it probably wouldn't hurt it, but I wouldn't want to find out. For a cheapy, YES man use what works best for you. Thanks for the comment. I get that one a lot, from folks who don't know the trick to it! Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

Never use a torque wrench as a breaker bar.
@keithnoneya
@keithnoneya 8 лет назад
Yep, I agree with you that's why I put it at the highest setting, so it will never exceed the max torque on the wrench. I like the ratchet portion of it and if it does wear out then I just buy a new one as it's a cheap one. Besides I've been doing it that way for over 25 years, along with some friends, and have NEVER had an issue with it. That torque wrench in the video is over 20 years old. Thanks for the concern but unless it's a really expensive torque wrench I always prefer the convenience over the safety of the tool. Best Wishes n Blessings Keith
