1999 Ford Explorer Limited Edition 4x4 V6
This Explorer has the 4.0L SOHC V6 making only 210 HP while paired t a 5 speed auto.
While the 5 Spd auto was a rather early attempt for Ford as they were the only American automaker back in 1997 to have a 5 spd auto, it was quite a problematic tranny. The V6 engines were also prone to engine noises as well.
THe Most Solid Explorer is the V8 version through 1996-2001 which came with the tried & true 5.0L V8 from the old Mustang. While it had a 4 Spd auto instead, it was a very reliable transmission (4R70W ) which was the same model used in Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Cars, 4.6L Expeditions, 4.6L F-150 & etc.... And if one ever want to modify the engine, one can do so with the endless supply of Mustang Accessories.
