Mate. Thanks for helping me out with your video. My 03 VZN167 was getting hot up the mountains then cooling off on the straights. Turns out the fan clutch was devoid of all viscous oil. Followed your vid. Temp gauge didn’t move once on the mountainous stretch of the M1 between Gosford and Sydney. Fan is noticeably louder when driving through the gears, it seems really obvious now, that it wasn’t properly working. It’s videos like this that help out people. What would’ve been $250 was $24 (2 x bottles of oil from Toyota). Legend mate.

Mate, how can you know the viscous is run out of oil? can you test it by hold the fan while spinning? or see it while you turn off the car if its running free for a few spin after you turn it off?

Fantastic, thanks for posting this. I've had issues with temperature going up when towing uphill or driving in soft sand. There is so many things to investigate, radiator, fan clutch, termostat... i don't really have much experience with all this... but the fan oil is a great way to start. Can't wait to do it now.

@@TRAV30387 do you mind me asking, I just checked my fan while the car was running, and it was not easy to stop it. It had lot of pull and felt very strong. It was not easy to stop the fan. I could also feel lots of air gushing around the fan. Do you think this is a good indication that the clutch and oil is all ok? Thanks heaps.

Awesome video cheers mate, just did mine, tip for splitting the halves is chuck 1 or 2 of the screws the other way around from the back (once all screws removed) rotate the halves so the screw holes are covered and use them as a jacking screw. pops off easy as. mine had almost no oil in it ....

Amayama shows me different part numbers for the viscous hub depending on whether the car is equipped with a manual or auto transmission, is there any significant difference between the two (different operating temperatures?)?
@leemazey9604
@leemazey9604 7 месяцев назад
Just a bit of constructive criticism I would have cleaned out the viscous hub and used both bottles of oil seeing as you them an also on the top radiator hose use new clamps as those Toyota ones are crap once removed the first time but otherwise a good video 👍👍

Hey mate. The shroud has a set of clips either side so the shroud can split in half. Means you dont have to take the fan off at the same time as the shroud. Makes it wayyyy less fidley

Hey Trav, would there be any point in applying a high temp gasket glue around the outside of the seal to prevent future loss of viscous oil? Doesnt look like theirs much edge there to apply it to. Maybe in place of the rubber seal? Or is the fact that it leaks a type of protection perhaps?
@TRAV30387
@TRAV30387 2 года назад
Id say the seal is enough in the fan hub but being so old the weep over time puttin a sealant in may make for future removal

The temp gauge on my 120 with the 1KZTE is usually at 40%, but goes up to 50% and stays there when I drive at a higher pace/heavier load. It goes back to 40% when I drive more relaxed. Think this would help?
