Watch in 1080p please. Shadow of the Colossus rednered @ 2560 x 1792 and cpatured in 1080p HD. Super smooth framerate, blah blah blah... 1st cooossus, Valus. Also the cutscene after Emluation with pcsx2.
Thank you for sharing these videos. Though this game was only released not much longer than half a decade ago, it already starts to feel like a classic. Indeed, SotC is a proof that video games, when done right, can be art.
I remember back a few years ago, I got the demo for this game in the mail from PlayStation Underground. I never played the demo, and eventually sold my PS2. I started hearing about how amazing this game was and it's probably my biggest regret not checking out the demo, because I probably would have bought the game. Especially after seeing all the footage on RU-vid over the years. I may pick up a PS2 again someday just to play this. No joke.
Josh trank, director of chronicle and big-time gamer, has officially signed to make the cinematographical version of shadow of the colossus... Faith in humanity restored :')
@daguerrero Sawtooth edges? You mean interlacing artifacts? I couldnt get the emu to produce interlace scanlines, ever... Or do you mean pixelated edges? You just gotta use a higher resoltuion in gsdx. Use a multipled resoltuion, like 2x or 3x. (Latest pcsx2 revisions, go to EMucr and download it)
God, if they made a sequel of this game with Assassin's Creed's graphic and climbing animation, add towns, NPCs and mobs, it would be the best game ever. Not say that this game is bad, it's legendary in my opinion, but... God!
@endurance619 Nope, but the framereate is so high that there's nothing to interpolate between.... But it's still visible when turning the camera and at fast moving objects.
@slitherhead You mean in the ps3 version ? I didn't notice a change, though I never found them hard to use either. One thing I ALWAYS change is that I put the horse button to L2 because that way I can control the camera with my right tumb when I'm riding Agro.
@INNUENDO88 thanks for the quick reply. I just upgraded to last PCSX2 version and it works slightly better but I can't seem to get it right yet. . I either can get better but not smooth speed and garbled textures (e.g a block trail on fog effects on the very first part of the intro) when using dx11 HW or correct graphics amd maybe 4 fps when I switch to dx11SW. I flagged all the relevant hacks .. any other advice? my rig is not that bad, 8GB, quad core intel ix, geforce DX570 ..
Anychance you can upload the emulator and rom files to a file sharing website so people can download it or give the links to the website you got it from?
@TheFred128 [...3rd part] And as for the edges or outlines of objects, those are defined be vectors, as I said. Those depends entirely on the rendering res. If you render at 640x448 and there's a vector line somewhere on the screen, it gets for exmaple 140 pixels and it will be all jaggy. If you render that at 1920x1080 the same line there gets 420 pixels and will be that much smoother.
This is a game by game designer Fumito Ueda. The previous game was ICO, SotC is the second and the third will be The Last Guardian. They are completely different games, I recommend that you check them out. There are no direct sequels if you ask this. Every game is on its own.
HI there...I got mine 60fps but sometimes even farther..my problem is the synchronization of the music..sometimes the music tends to play fast...how can I fix this? is this because of my speed hacks?? My rig is intel i5 2400, GTX550Ti 4Gb RAM
@Raymint Yes, it is. I just didn't feel the need to correct myself after I remembered it 5 minutes later. Wander does pronounce it "Ah-ro" or "Aro" though, that's why I always remember it wrong.
@INNUENDO88 I think that it improves image quality, the filters are applied to make the textures stay sharp, and that reduce jaggies it does not have the magic of how to render something in 1080p, 720p, if it has 480p native resolution, the game was made in 480p the textures and everything else is in 480p, has no way to magically create pixels in 1080p, 720p if they do not exist in game
@tonertonki If the status bar displays more than 60fps that means that the emulation speed goes over normal, like fast forwarding a video tape. You probably turned fps limiting off.
@INNUENDO88 i just know you have been asked this already, but did you use a recording device? and if so, which one?? im sorry i need to know, ive been trying to put up review videos and all sorts of things for a while now, any feedback would be greatly appreciated
@TheFred128 [...5th part] And finally, just for the heck of it, I took some photos of the ps3 version and pcsx2 version now for comparison (on the same monitor of course). PS3: ht tp://pic0.picsorlinks.co m/ph_or_152824_2e1b24e.jpg pcsx2: ht tp://pic0.picsorlinks.co m/ph_or_152825_9cbc818.jpg Taken with a different camera: PS3: ht tp://pic0.picsorlinks.co m/ph_or_152826_7264974.jpg pcsx2: ht tp://pic0.picsorlinks.co m/ph_or_152827_984dcc7.jpg
whats your video settings? If you check out the vid of me playing on my channel you can see it isn't as smooth.I want some super smooth framrates for recording.
@Razor1911Alan Nope, Iusually use 3x or 4x depending on the game. You mean the gsdx settings? dx11 (or dx10) Hardware mode, 3x native, texture filtering enalbed (tick, not square), and the hidden offset hack enabled. I think it's not hidden anymore in the very latest revisions, but earlier I had to enable it in the gsdx.ini
what can I do to play shadow of the colossus maximum specs or same spec on the video ?. Here are my specs CPU: Intel E8500 Motherboard: Asus Striker II Extreme Memory: 8gb OCZ Reaper ram 1600mhz Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX 560ti 1GB HDD: 2x samsung spinpoint f3 in raid 0 OS: windows 7 ultimate 64bit edition
Darn, I am totally unable to make PCSX2 run anywhere as fast as you do :( I think I have followed all the hints you gave but to no avail .... is there a way for you to export your config and share it with me? pretty please?
@DantotsuMan dx11? try dx10, see if it changes anything. I never tried dx11 since i dont have a dx11 card... Are you sure you're using the latest unreleased revisions ? from Emucr ?
@p6st0rm Yeah the old shadow bug. It's fixed now, this video was made back when it wasn't. The music you mention was back at the bottom, it passed before this video begins
@TheFred128 [...] If you redner to 640x448 (ps2), nothing on the surface of the screen will be of more detailed than that. For example , if you have a texture that's 256x256, but it's fitted to a small part of the screen where there's only 100x100 pixels, that that's the detial you get. Now if you render that to 1920x1080, there's 300x300 pixels on that same part as vefore, and now the full 256x256 detial of the texture comes out. [...]
I'm also playing this game in PCSX2 but even though my frame rate is stable at 60 fps, the game feels to have very low fps.I'm using some speed hacks in pcsx2 version 1.0.Any help would be appreciated.
@rei161 Broke? So what are you using now? The best you can do to take stress off the gpu is to lower the resolution (native is the lowest). Although you can raise speedhacks as well to decrease framerate, but then you're not using your cpu's full potential
Nastalgic. I played this game during the time period where I had just moved out on my own. This game was scary to me because I accually have a fear of things bigger than me (like colossally bigger than me)
