In regards to the PDK, yes it will be rare in comparison to the manual but I hope you buy your car to drive it not to speculate on how you one day will sell it? You need to look in to wish experience you are after and then act on it. PCCB brakes are not needed on a GT4 or Spyder for that matter and therefore, Johan was vice not to select the PCCB. If you are not already, please consider subscribing.

Thank you for commenting copulos1, a late answer from me :-( As no surprise, I do recommend valve control as the first step. Then you could move forward to piping. Cargraphics is my recommendation.

Done by engineering explained, basically reducing back pressure is never bad for an engine, although in order to see hp gains your engine may require a tune to take advantage of the lower back pressure. But often some gains can be seen without a tune.

In Europe, the particulate filter is connected to ECU. Therefore it is called as an active particulate filter, that's why I do not feel comfortable to change it.

Per Cargraphic, this system cannot be synced with the onboard home link - you have to use their remote unfortunately.

Random Hawks it only saves the valve open. Which is the sports exhaust on all the way through the rpm. All other switches go off, including the sports exhaust switch.

@@JankoLind Thanks Janko! The GTS won't arrive until around April/May, but fortunately I have a Golf R with APR Stage 2 to entertain me until then (420 HP / 580 Nm). I enjoy your videos and will keep an eye out for new releases (I'm especially interested in various exhaust system solutions for the GTS/GT4, optimally replacing the OPF filters but still being able to have the car pass the yearly exams at Bilprovningen :-).

Na, I'm afraid not...

You would be replacing your electronically controlled dampers with a passive system so no, PASM will cease to function. In fact you have to purchase an electronic unit to disable PASM although Ohlins can supply this at quite a small cost. Janko demonstrated this in a video with his 718 Cayman T. Good luck making the decision, I'm going to go for it on my Cayman but i only have passive dampers which makes it a little easier i guess.

I've now watched Janko's video about fitting the Ohlins R&T dampers to his Cayman T (EP 086) (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rrcEYV2TkLE.html)... Based on Janko's comments in this video (EP 127), I was thinking the Ohlins dampers would make the Spyder more compliant for a daily driver, but that will obviously mean I'd lose the ability to switch between 'hard' and 'soft' (or 'less hard' in the case of the Spyder! lol) from within the car, whilst on the move. I know you can change the damper settings manually; but of course this means having to stop the car, get out, crawl underneath the car, and change the settings that way. Which is fine if you're changing between 'road use' and 'track use', but not suitable for when you're driving along and then suddenly come across one of our bumpy UK roads, full of undulations and potholes! I'm certainly not against passive dampers over active, as I opted for the fixed Sports suspension (over Maserati's 'Skyhook' adaptive suspension) in my GranCabrio MC. (I found the Sports suspension to be more consistent and predictable than their adaptive dampers, thus giving greater confidence in the car, and therefore being able to push the car harder.) The 718 Spyder (or 718 GTS 4.0) however will be a 2 season (spring/summer) daily driver, hence me investigating options to enable the Spyder to become more suitable for daily use. As for your Cayman, the Ohlins certainly sound like they'll fit the bill, as you don't have PASM; they should give you a much improved drive / better handling, and should give you greater flexibility wrt settings etc. I'd be interested to see how you get on with them when you fit them. (Might be worth fitting some Ohlins to the MC.) Any chance you could keep me posted? Cheers, T

@@Tilum2 Many thanks for the reply, i'm no automotive engineer but iv'e always thought that switchable damper settings were somewhat bullshit and a compromise. When i specified my Cayman i trusted that Porsche would not fuck up their passive chassis and i was dead right, it is very very good. I guess what i'm looking for is the ultimate in B-road handling and those Ohlins sound promising. I will definitely let you know my thoughts in a couple of months. I also think that you should find a specialist and competent company to fit and align your new suspension. For me it's about 90 miles away but worth seeking out the best. If it doesn't work out then i blame Janko, i know he's a nutter but i do love nutters, (where would we be without nutters)? good luck with whatever you do!

smiles 11 Yes, of course, we can agree to disagree. To me, the 992 is a great GT car, it’s not a sports car for drivers, at least not as good as a Cayman/Boxster. The 992 is bigger, heavier, and lacks the weight of controls that differentiates Porsche from other manufacturers. I also own an AMG GTC, and that is a WAY more engaging driver’s GT car than the 992. Driving both back to back made it so clear. I guess it all depends what you’re looking for. At this price point and stage in my life, I’m looking for driving to be a “sense of occasion” with some theater.

smiles 11 The gearing is actually *NOT* long in the GT4/Spyder - watch Janko Lind’s video on the GT4. You’re supposed to downshift and use the entire rev range. So go into 1st gear at speeds higher than you normally would, for B road driving.

Roberto, sorry to hear about your initial experience. I also traded up from a 718 2.5 and couldn't be happier - there's just too many things that make the Spyder so much more special than any Boxster version (at least for me)...looks alone are on two different levels. But again, that's the great thing about Porsche making all the different versions they make - something to suit different tastes and needs. As for the Cargraphic controller, if you go back to 12:15, you'll hear Janko say this is 'Part 1' of two parts, the second being an exhaust replacement by Cargraphic. ECE noise regulations continue to force Porsche to put limits on when the valves open, which this controller helps to remove so they are open when you want them to be. The other awesome part is the 'memory' of your control settings, so you don't have to select 4-5 buttons every time you restart the car. I'm sure if you continue to be underwhelmed, it won't be hard to find it a new home. Best of luck!

@@randomhawks3232 My Porsche service centre also includes a motorsport division (Ebimotors) and is a Cargraphic dealer as well. They have a bolt replacement for the exhaust manifold including 200 cells cat and OPF filters, performance wise is quite better than an exhaust valve, reliability is also improved for better thermal discharge.

I agree on the stock 2.0 liter 718 engine, it is a beauty to drive. As Radnom Hawks writes, it would not be hard for you to find a new home for your Spyder. @@JankoLind Hi Janko, over the last few weeks i did another 800/900kms, mainly on motorway, i reckon at high speed engine response it's pretty good, maybe engine is finally running in, i have 1800kms at the moment. Ironically i seem in relative terms, of course, to appreciate more the shove in 3rd gear than 2nd. I just viewed your report of the Cargraphic exhaust. Incidentally my Porsche service centre (Ebimotors) has a Motortsport department dealing with them. I have already enquired for the upgraded OPF, i think that performance wise is more effective than the exhaust.

@@philgt3877 You could drill a hole (wish I did not want to do in my car) to avoid pressure I created placing the cable between the engine lid and body. There is a sealing that decreases the pressure and for me that was OK.
