1985 Chevy S10 2.5 Liter. I am doing a full ignition tune-up with distributor cap, rotor button, coil, rotor button, spark plugs, and wires. The distributor is under the intake manifold on the passenger side and can be a little difficult to get to. Once off the contact tips were extremely corroded along with the rotor button.
Parts:
Rotor Button: amzn.to/3QdZlJg
Plugs: amzn.to/3QrTuzy
Distributor Cap: amzn.to/3BYaeKS
Wires: amzn.to/3AcxK5O
Ignition Coil: amzn.to/3bDaNzf

90k miles on my ‘88. Runs like a top. I did have a chronic problem that ended up being the ECU computer box. I kept getting the flash code that said ECU with the OBD1 arrangement. After looking all over hell’s half acre, I finally found a junk box off another 2.5. I pulled the EPROM out of the original box and used it in the replacement. That solved all the problems. That was, of course, after I’d replaced pretty much every component I could think of on the truck. I eventually picked up another computer box for a spare…both junkyard boxes. They are hard to come by and are pretty pricey.

That is awesome that it is such low miles. A lot of these 2.5 engines have been run to death. I know what you mean about the ecu. They are extremely hard to find and if you do, people want an arm and leg for them. They will run good if you keep them up and do the maintenance on them.

I replaced all my 2.5L plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor cap and coil. I cut to rivets off the old coil bracket and bolted it to the new one…then remounted. The distributor cap was a major pain to get back on…not a lot of room to get your hands or tools down in there.

They did not allow for much room where the distributor is on these things. For as small as this engine is, it sure does take up a lot space inside of the engine bay. A SBC fits better in there than that engine ever did in my opinion.

Hey pal, I got a chevy s10 87 2.5 4 speeds I'm struggling with the firing order in the distribuidor. May I get any help. Thanks in advanced

The firing order is 1-3-4-2. So bring the number one cylinder up to TDC on the compression stroke and take the cap off. Which ever plug wire the rotor button is pointed at will be number one. Then in the clockwise rotation do the firing order.

Hey bud, like your video. Were you able to go back and fire it up to do any further diagnostics/ did that fix the problem at hand?

So, I ran some fuel injector cleaner through and rebuilt the throttle body and it pretty much cleared it up. I'm going to adjust the timing a little as well to help out out too

It's been 23 years since I've owned a Chevy. Had sworn them off. Bought an 88 s10 last week. Ran perfect, but didn't even make it all the way home. Shouldn't have bought a chevy. I couldn't believe where they put the distributor and coil. And the bracket for the coil. Mine had little bolts. I don't know if that's factory or someone did that. Dumbest bracket I've ever seen, it's like a mouse trap. Just plain stupid. The only reason a person likes Chevy's is because they like pain and difficulty. That's it.

I'm a huge s10 fan but not this engine. The 4.3 and 2.2 were the best engines these had. I agree 100% with the distributor and coil location. As far as the bolts, I think they are factory.
