We just surpassed 100k subs here on RU-vid! Your participation is elevating Suspension to a mainstream topic in the motorcycle community. Thanks for taking you and your ride to the next level, and helping Dave save a life every day.
The Suzuki SV650 is a budget motorcycle with budget suspension. The engineers, probably for more budgetary reasons, fortuitously made the suspension supremely upgradeable by scabbing parts from other Suzuki models. Get the light weight, the torquey v-twin power curve, and then nimble handling of fully adjustable suspension all at bargain pricing. Brilliant.

Some are commenting that the ads are intrusive. Ordinarily I’d agree with, but Dave just gifted us a masterclass in bike suspension tuning - for free to us. So, he needs to get paid, but unlike a lot of egos who are essentially just farting opinions into the net, Dave’s advice is genuinely valuable. Actually, I’d argue it’s priceless. So he deserves to get paid, and paid well. The ads are fine. Now I’m going to watch again. I’m a fast empirical learner, but a slow learner when being taught. Thank you for sharing Dave. Awesome advice.

This is doing the very basic setup to get the bike somewhere right to your weight. To do a complete set up you need to ride the bike and really know what needs to be done, or use some advanced matrix mesurment tools. The difference from a good suspension set up to a great one can be a second per lap. I had great set ups perhaps 2 or 3 times during my time of racing, and I wish I would have spent more time learning this art as it makes more of a difference when it comes to lap times then anything else. As Honda says, Power is nothing without controle!

Great video Dave! Thanks for making it available! I'm looking to replace my cbr600rr with a current gen sv650 as my daily commuter. Used to have an 06 with a gsxr fork swap and ohlins 30mm cartridge kit and loved the way it handled. My question is this: how much better would a gsxr front end with an aftermarket cartridge be than the stock forks with an aftermarket cartridge (just saw that ohlins makes one) now that the stock forks have four pot calipers? In other words, could I get close to the performance of a fork swap by just installing a cartridge kit and some better pads and lines? I also plan on replacing the shock. Not interested in emulators. Most of my riding is on the street with occasional track days. Thanks!

Hello, first and all I love your chanel. I have sv 650 2003 gen. Changed last year suspension (front andreani cartridge fully customised and rear yss fully customised shock). I didnt checked sag when I changed it and I was lift rear suspension by 0.5 cm or more. One day in corner cca 100 kmh I had speed woble from front end to rear and crash. Later I put the suspension on the lowest setting. The previous owner put 180 55 rear tyre so rear end of bike is higher with this setup because front is 120 60 r17 stock. Should I change maybe front tyre to 120 70 r17 because to put front end higher and enable future speed woble and crashes, watched motorcycle like gsxr 600 and 1000 and they have rear 180 60 the front is 120 70 not 120 60, thanks.

Sorry you had an accident. 120/60 needs a 160 rear as a maximum size. The 180/60 is for a 5.5 inch wheel. Is that what you have? If so, change to the 120/70 front.

i want stiff slow rebound and soft fast and slow compression at rear and front mid compression and mid high slow stiff rebound. 1, it prevents diving and doing unwanted stoppies, decreased stop time and more grip while braking. it also prevents the bike from doing wheelies. now on cornering high speeds, heh on a public road that is 99 percent never the case.

SV forums are brilliant for that exact question sharing not only what shock to choose but giving you the entire process start to end in pictures and instructions.

I shit you not I literally started researching this yesterday haha. I currently have a cbr500r road bike, and I'm considering turning it into a track bike vs buying an sv650 for the same purpose.

Get the SV, the CBR500R is a turd. When raced in either WERA or MotoAmerica, it races against Ninja 400s and Yamaha R3s and can't keep up with either of tham.
@BonjobyBasketball
@BonjobyBasketball 3 года назад
@@rogerw3818 that's true, but this is moreso a tool for me to learn track riding before upgrading to a 600 than a permanent track/race bike. And I'd save roughly 4 grand by going w the 500 :/
@benclimo461
@benclimo461 3 года назад
@@BonjobyBasketball why would you save so much? Can get a gen 1 sv which can go under a grand. It would probably be more fun and you may learn a lot on the SV compared to the cb500. Plus the sv650 has better used parts for sale and more groups for racing and general stuff.

The bike with twin exhausts at Laguna was an SV1000 😁
@CatalystReactionSBW

Dave Williams, editor, replying here. Great point. Yes, dual exhaust is a key ID feature of the 1000 vs the 650, but in this case it's a 650 with a custom exhaust. www.svrider.com/threads/two-brothers-dual-exhaust-on-gen-2-sv650.393847/

@CatalystReactionSBW
@CatalystReactionSBW 2 года назад
If you have never been to the track, when do you intend to go. Normally a good street set up works fine for the first 2-3 track days. If any video says "Preview" it requires a membership to access the full video. That is $9.99 for one month of 24 x 7 access.

Hey Dave. With the stage 3 rider who had his 2cts at 27F and 32R you said he should be running a minimum of 32 F&R for 2cts but when you gave him adjustments to make after tuning the suspension you said +3F and +1R. Which would only put the front at 30F. Is this because you don't want to make to dramatic a change on tyre pressure after making changes to suspension so the rider can getting better feedback from the suspension changes? Cheers.
@CatalystReactionSBW
@CatalystReactionSBW 3 года назад
Great question. The tire is already hot, so we lost the opportunity with cold pressures as there is no linear relationship between cold and hot air. So, add the pressure and see how the tire responds. If it shows too hot, we add 3 more. Chasing incorrect pressures is tricky and needs to be methodical in the approach.
