Agent Nesty at your service! This is Vlog from my trip on the "Platzkart", Russian cheapiest train! It was a little stressful, but very cozy and fun. In this video, we will go to the train restaurant, will break the toilet on the train, get a threat of a criminal case, eat sweets from our neighbor and much, much more!

'Platzkart' is a nice German word. I have just realised that the Russian language uses a lot of German words, especially in the technical field.

I taught English in Russia for 5 years and only took the platzkart, even with a 40-hour journey from St. Petersburg to Krasnodar. For US viewers, it's kind of like a college dormitory on wheels.

Moscow IT worker here, main hobby is trekking new mountains in Russia once a year. I'm usually taking platzkart if it's not completely booked. Because being locked with 52 people is much more comfortable then being locked with 3 more or even 1. No one in platzkart is going to change air conditioning to full heat because they think their child is not warm enough in the middle of summer. Better then taking a plane because it's a great place to sleep overnight and wake up at your destination, saves time like instant teleportation. Yes I've tried all types of wagons. SW wagons were the worst experience because being treated like some king or ubermensh made me really shy, i'll better play table games with people from platzkart.

I rode the train from Moscow ( Pavelyetskaya station ) to Saratov in the '90s. The experience was great. I liked the old Soviet era trains but they are slow. The commodes dump onto the tracks and the attendant locks the lavatory door before entering a city. The compartments were clean and comfortable. And people share their food and drinks. I liked the tea and the tea cups provided by the attendants. Very professional. A great way to tour Russia.

In 1976 , I travelled 7 days (excluding stops ) on the Trans Siberian , in a small group , with an assigned Inturist guide . There were 2 classes - "hard" & "soft" . We had "hard" , with 4 to a compartment - but they were mostly group members . I recall them still being more comfortable than the one shown in the video . Occasionally a single Russian would be assigned to our compartments . Few spoke any English , but we played chess & they were pleasant enough in the compartment , but avoided us on the platform during short stops . This was still the height of the Cold War , so we understood . The Chai boiler was not self serve . A babushka did that for us .

Yes, everything is sad in Russia, there are no crowds of drug addicts dying from salts and acid right on the street, as in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, there are not half a million homeless people, as in the same USA. Inexpensive public transport, safe movement on railways, free medicine, lack of support for bestiality, pederasty and pedophilia.. Russia is just terrible, what can I say.

In modern Russia, since Soviet times, the difference between a "selo" and a "derevnya" is only in size: a "selo" is a big "derevnya". However, historically, the difference was clearer: a "derevnya" is a peasant settlement, and if a church is built in a "derevnya", then "derevnya" becomes a "selo".

I tried in the 70s to take a train from NYC to Nevada but I was told there were no more passenger trains to Nevada. Although I have (numerous times) taken an Amtrak train from NYC to Washington, DC it was much more comfortable to just drive one of my cars, so I no longer ride trains.

The experience that you had riding the train and Russia doesn't look that different from Amtrak here in the US. Perhaps the Russian trains and more reliable. Here in the US freight trains get priority over passenger trains which can sometimes mean unexpected delays during travel. Another apparent difference between the train you were riding an Amtrak is most Amtrak trains have a car on them that's called an observation car where the upper level is like a giant living room with large windows and couches and a lower level of the car is a cafe. The cafes are often cheaper than the dining cars on Amtrak. It was fun to see this video. Please keep the videos coming. I always enjoy watching your videos.

Have done a sleeper car from LA, California to Fort Worth, Texas. It's a cool way to travel, but getting a private sleeper car compartment is rather expensive way to travel (what I had was good bit roomier than your accommodations). There's the dedicated dining cars and observation deck cars. This sleeper compartment had it's own private toilet facility. Doing this at least once is a nice bucket list item to check off, but it's considerably more expensive way to travel vs the air lines. If came to Russia would want to indeed do such travel as sounds like it would be much more affordable.
