No we are not talking about your cold barley & hops drink! What is a bier and what does it do in the funeral home?!

I want to Thank you for the time you spend to respond to comments. That takes tome out of your day....Your videos are informational. When I was younger I had thought about maybe become a funeral director, the field with the use of restorative prep and the compassion in dealing with families is what I found interesting....Also the science part too.

It would be great if someone designed a "Church Truck" That looked more like the Funeral Home bier, People spend a great deal of money on a funeral and in MY opinion The rolling metal biers look kind of tacky. This is my personal opinion, But does anyone else agree with it? Maybe even a velvet covering or something to hide the metal parts. Just me thinking out loud!Great video Kari, Keep educating us on the inner workings of your fascinating profession! Thank You!

I think she said that you can have some kind of covering over the church truck, if not in this one, then in another one. They use the church truck, because it can be stored in the hearse or perhaps another vehicle. It would probably be impractical to use maybe a smaller sized version of the one used in the funeral home, I would think, unless they have a lot of time ahead of the church service (for instance, if the service is going to be held at the church, and it’s not a Catholic funeral where they first meet at the funeral home, and proceed to the church afterwards for the funeral service.) Something like that might be too heavy to transport to churches as well, unless they have people that can lift it, or they have lifting devices available. It’s like my situation sometimes (I’m a church organist), when I play for a funeral at a funeral home, usually for a family member’s funeral, and an organ is requested, but the funeral home doesn’t have one, I bring a keyboard which sounds like an organ (when you have it on that setting, I mean), as it’s hard to find a few guys to be able to lift it (even though I have several in my apartment), so I bring an instrument that’s portable, that I can manage on my own.

Another interesting vlog Kari. I found it interesting that the firms that I worked for only referred to the wooden ones as Bier's while the tubular was called a utility truck and the folding was a church truck which we had in the coach. The cemetery also called the one that they used to transport from the coach to the gravesite as a church truck also. Interesting as to the different terms that are used on the west coast and the east coast and the mid west. I also would be interested in a video on the cars that are used there.

Very interesting! Let me ask you, do you get a choice of bier? I've helped plan a few funerals and that subject never came up. Now that I know about it, it's it possible to drape it with the deceased's favorite colors or sports teams or.... cats? That cat part was for me and my own amusement, but you never know...

hello Kari , I have helped out a little many years ago and one of the funeral homes had two adjoining prep rooms. Have you ever seen such a facility? The place was built in 1960 probably before the days of dressing rooms.

Is it possible for it to break and drop the casket? In the movies you sometimes see the casket drop and the flap on top of the casket opens and the decidst falls out. Silly question but curious is that possible to happen?
@organrick
@organrick 6 лет назад
Yes, it is. There is a story in the book Mortuary Confidential about that happening at a priest’s funeral with a cloth covered casket. When they were taking it into the church, without the church truck, the bottom of the casket broke apart from the rest of it, with the priest on it. Supposedly, the funeral home had bought them in bulk, and apparently, that particular casket had been in storage for a long time.
