Scripture Gems is my favorite bonus source for Come Follow Me material. I love and appreciate that they teach out of the scriptures, institute and seminary manuals, and quotes from latter-day leaders of the church. There’s no added fluff that you find in many other podcasts and videos like this. They’re not trying to invent ideas and opinions to give a new creative twist just to get more views and, in turn, more monetary gain - it’s just the facts and gospel doctrine. I love it.
As someone whos only been a member of the church for three years and didnt grow up reading the Bible in the King James Version, this is so helpful!! I was so distraught that i wasnt getting as much out of my scripture studies. I was also really discouraged that i couldnt understand what i was reading. Thank you so much for this, ya'll helped me feel less discouraged when reading the Isaiah chapters 😊
I was in high school in the 80's when I heard this quote from Elder Packer. I've honestly been looking for it for decades and I've never found it because I couldn't remember any key words. thank you so much! ❤
Okay, I know that I'm old and may have just skimmed over them, but . . . where are the links that you referred to at the beginning of the video? I can't seem to find them. ~ After reading the Book of Mormon for decades, why now are my eyes opened to the Isaiah chapters? Thank you so much for helping me adjust my "spiritual glasses". You are both amazing.
And YOU are amazing for catching that I forgot to post those links. They are now in the description and I'll post them here for your convenience. Thank you for catching that! I never quite understood the "Wo unto the daughters of Zion" verses in Isaiah 3/ 2 Nephi 13:16-24 until I studied female bullying (i.e. clique mentality or relational aggression). Most of the bullying, like that in middle school, is based on the Beauty Pageant, and the way to be accepted is to come as close to our culture's idea of Ideal Femininity as possible. Wear enough make-up, curl your hair, follow the fashion scene, lose enough weight, shave your legs (though I'm told that has changed), and so on. And the way to become a Social Outcast is to gain weight, or not be in fashion, or have acne, or any of the other Must-Do's on that list. And it doesn't end in high school, either. I've seen that same kind of behavior in Relief Society. When I took the study of Relational Aggression and put it side-by-side with Isaiah 3, it became very obvious that Isaiah saw our day. He truly did.
Umm, the men and women described in Isaiah chapter 3 is talking about modern day latter-day saints. All things which Isaiah wrote have been and shall be, which means ancient Israel's fate is our fate. Chapter 4 is a continuation of chapter 3 which is all in a latter-day context. Why is it that the Come Follow Me commentators cannot grasp the idea that Isaiah is prophesying of our apostasy, wicked leaders, and ultimate destruction, save it be a few that repent and survive, even a tenth of a tenth, or 1%. Think about how devastating this is going to be!!
