So when the Uke does the dead lift you bail the spider and go for something else, fast! That is my understanding from your commentary.

Yes because, as he said, there are guards to control the upper body and guards to control the lower body. Spider guard controls the upper body and you no longer have control of the upper body.

When someone tries to deadlift me I’ve been working on a k-guard type sweep. Or, I sometimes manage to maintain distance so they aren’t able to fully extend on me. Any other ideas? Of course, knowing when to transition to a different guard is important.
