20 Games Where You Are THE ONLY PERSON ALIVE 

The original Dead Space felt really lonely. Isaac didn't speak back then and you have crew talking in your ear every once in a while until they get killed too. Just wandering around on the spaceship with no one else around you except mutated people, it feels very lonely.

The first Talos Principle... Man! I'm not saying that game changed me, but definitely had a BIG impression on me.

One game that makes u feel completely lonely is SOMA. That game was great! And makes u feel this knot in ur stomach on how it ends

All the games that give you an animal companion don't feel lonely to me at all. I personally have a career that keeps me pretty isolated from other people for most of the time, but I *always* have at least one animal that I'm working and cooperating with (tracking/detection dogs, herding dogs, my horse, etc), so that feels familiar to me. You don't need spoken dialogue to feel like you have good company, especially if it's a friend or cooperative partner that sticks with you for your whole journey (like in Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian). And you're definitely not the only living thing in an empty landscape when there's another living, breathing creature right next to you the whole time, sharing the same experience.

So glad to see The Long Dark on one of these list. I believe it is one of the most underrated games ever.

A recommendation for this list, an Indy came titled "Infra". Yeah you do talk on the phone to your boss sometimes, but a majority of the time you're checking out the infrastructure of a city, out of touch from everyone, as you document the system's flaws and discover a weird random story as to WHY it's falling apart.

Kinda surprised Halo ODST's Rookie sections were not on the list. It nailed the feeling of being completely alone in a recently dead city.

Serious Sam would fit right in, the whole premise is that you're the last human in the universe so you have to travel in time to find a way of saving earth, but as it turns out humanity was also viped out in the past.

Dysmantle is a great little indie game that has you all alone in a world. Also, Riftbreaker is a survival/crafting/basebuilder where you're on an alien planet. Just you, your AI mech, and a bunch of hostile aliens.

I did not know Myst had been remade! That game was a necessity growing up. So beautiful!

Oh Returnal my beloved. Still one of the greatest games I ever played, can´t wait for what Housemarque is cooking next.

What is amazing about project Zomboid is that it all started on their own website, they were selling this very basic version for something like 10 USD. They then gave Steam Keys for free to original owners when it released there. It's amazing the difference between this original version and now, the one I first played you only had your home, maybe a couple neighbors, and that's it, you had to survive the Zombies infinite onslaught with very limited resources.

Praey For the Gods is very Shadow of the Collossus-inspired and you can see that in its similar level of isolation. The game has you stranded on a frozen island in a dying world, and that isolation is only reinforced as you find the remains of previous inhabitants and diaries of their experiences, plus the occasional ruins covered in ominous hieroglyphs hinting at a previous disaster. Even the “gods” you have to fight look like half-decayed corpses, which only further gives the sense of you being the only living person.

I was expecting to see Jusant on this list somewhere

I would put Leviathan: The old city as #1. I agree with the list, but it’s not even close to how lonely it feels in this game, absolutely unique melancholic experience.

Dysmantle is definitely a game that gave me that lonely feeling, just you and lots of zombies. The setting leaves you feeling that there were once (living) people there, but for a significant portion of the game you've got no idea what happened to them.

Love Project Zomboid, so excited for build 42. Great video, few games on this I will def check out.

Metroid is a great pick for #1. One of the first games of my childhood where i felt totally alone in the game.

Good old Myst, that game does have a really eerie and yes lonely atmosphere. Honourable mention for Sons of the Forest? You don't have to play alone but you can. Particularly if you get rid of Kelvin and Virginia.

why should i pay money for games of being alone while im already experiencing it

Dead Space & Prey may have had a couple live souls in the area, but they felt so lonely, they were chef's kiss. Also, ALAN WAKE 2's sections of Alan were superbly lonely. I loved it.

Alien isolation would be my top pick, even though there’s a few moments where you’re with another survivor, those are really few and far between. Still Wakes the Deep would make the list for me for the same reasons.

This is one of those lists where I think "I should check some of these games out" only to realize I already have almost all of them in my Steam library.

Hot take: I liked ICO BETTER than Shadow of the colossus....!

To add to this list, The Town of Light. You play a lady who returns to an abandoned asylum and piece together your horrific past. It is a walking simulator, but it is harrowing. Can be completed in one setting, but it will remain with you.

We need more games where you the player is alone. Also nice vid

Two very niche indies you might look up - PROTEUS is a tiny no-lose walking sim but the world it puts you in is fantastic for how lo-res it is, and EIDOLON which is a more open-ended post-apocalypse wilderness explorer with a very lonely vibe.

Glad to see the vanishing of ethan carter named, would have loved to see a UE5 version of this; the astronauts' art direction was amazing in that game

Myst was one of the first games I played to it's conclusion. I was in first school. Me and my 3 nerdy computer friends who were learning basic programming on QBasic were given a copy by our (equally nerdy) science/IT teacher. Mr. Atkins, if you are with us and somehow reading this comment, thank you for being such a brilliant guy and letting us program our own version of Pong and Snake during class! I have grown up to be a proud nerd and sound techie - largely down to your influence. All the love.❤

Love to see Planet Crafter getting some attention, it’s easily one of my favorite games on Steam at the moment. It’s honestly really relaxing, taking a break from shooting and fighting in other games to just collect resources, build shit, and terraform your planet into a livable Earth.

Scorn should be on this list, it’s literally the best example of a lonely game

I think "The Light Remake" would also fit very well in this Video, its a small russian dev and his work is great. An upcoming title from Носков Сергей called, "Hail to the Rainbow" could be worth to put in a video. This will be a spectacular game, and more people need to see this.

It's gotta be SOMA for me, no game has ever made me feel so isolated, and it just oozes that existential dread of loneliness mixed with haunting echos of the past! Especially with that ending, you're just left with a feeling of being left in an empty void forever with no hope of ever escaping!

When playing The Witness, I actually had a notebook that I kept writing in and referring to. I drew patterns, wrote down some key lore elements, and even made annotations to things I had written earlier as I went along. If you like puzzle games, this one is an absolute gem that should not be missed .I got it for free one month on PS Plus and I really feel like I straight up robbed them because the game was phenomenal and I would have happily paid for it.

You're not completely alone (you have comms), but Red Matter on the Oculus brings loneliness to an entirely new level since it's a VR experience.

I loved Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. I played it on a whim and was blown away by the atmosphere of it. I also really like Gone Home as a lonely game.

It makes my heart happy to see the long dark on this list. Absolutely one of my all time favorites

Ico could feel pretty lonely, even when you had the princess, Yorda, at your side for much of the game's events. This was largely due in part to the language barrier preventing the pair from fully understanding one another. And the castle setting was incredible, being trapped within a labyrinthine structure that's also located atop multiple rocky structures, leaving you with no choice but to navigate the castle for a safe means of escape.

Glad to see Myst made it in the list. It is literally the godfather of games where you are by yourself.

Was getting worried when at #3 Planet Crafter had been mentioned but not Subnautica haha. Even even better yet, I’m playing Metroid Prime while watching this video 😂

Montana used to be like Jake mentioned in The Long Dark where you could feel like the only person for miles in the woods, then out of state people ruined it. Now you can be in the most isolated place possible and it can confused for a sidewalk in LA.

Immediately news subnautica should be on this list! Was skipping through to find it/or comment how it should be on this list. What makes the game even more eerie, is that you continuously find empty life pots of your fellow ventures. Reminding you that you are indeed alone. Great game!

I was pretty surprised how lonely I felt when I first played LoZ: Twlight Princess, especially in the beginning. Like...when most of the world is covered in Twilight and you have to be a wolf, you cant talk to anyone. Almost feels like youre the ghost in those parts. It doesnt stay lonely, obviously but there were parts thay actually felt kinda depressingly lonely for a Zelda game...

Zomboid proves that you don't need amazing graphics to be immersive.

If we’re talking about old games, the loneliest I have played were; Myst and Morpheus. Both point n click puzzle games and both very lonely.

Played Metroid Prime for the first time ever thanks to the Remastered version, and was so hooked. It’s like they perfected the Metroidvania formula while bringing it to 3 dimensions instead of keeping it constrained in the traditional 2D space of metroidvanias (not that there’s anything wrong with 2D games, they can still be amazing). What I loved the most is how superbly done all the environmental storytelling and lore drops are done. Really felt like a lived-in world.

I was hoping Gone Home would be on this list. It felt really eerie, like a monster or something would jump out at you from nowhere

I feel like No Man’s Sky should get an honorable mention. Sure there is the one station with other people, but the bulk of the time you are totally alone

Not sure if anyones put this out there, but surprised Adrift wasn't posted. Wake up in a destroyed space station, frantically trying to keep your O2 full while finding out what happened, why the space station you and your crew were working on, exploded all while gently floating through corridors and doing light puzzles to proceed.

Subnautica and Snowrunner, hell yeah 👍 It’s hard to explain to people how satisfying Snowrunner is because it’s about getting stuck, and then getting unstuck 😂

A good atmosphere is everything in this type of games.

The loneliest game I've ever played is SOMA. There were just a couple of NPCs. One interaction with an NPC is the saddest moment for me in gaming.

The protagonist of shadow of the colossus has a name. His name is Wander.

What remains of Edith Finch was really isolating. Always thought something was going to happen. I’d also add original No Man Sky before updates. I never felt that sense of isolation before. The galaxy was vast and you never saw a soul. Not even the aliens right away. Leaving my home planet for the first time was a type of anxiety I’d never felt.

Senua 1 is a masterpiece and fell of the edge with the 2nd game just WHY

Lastly, Obduction is a follow up from the makers of Myst. A bit cooler as you are transported to another world that has puzzles of other worlds glued together to create a disjoint town. You have to find your way out of this place and solve what happened to all of the people who left this "village".

I cant believe Valheim was not mentioned, ive played that game since release, always by myself, and i gotta tell you, that game feels really lonely without anyone by your side.

I think Soma also falls into the same category. A unique experience.

Outer wilds. You're not alone but you feel that way most of the time

There is a game called the Solus Project on Steam. It has an amazing, lonely feel to it. It's just you on an alien planet. The graphics are fantastic, and the music just adds to the isolation vibe. It's one of my favorite games.

Firewatch, while technically not fitting this, kind of does fit because you are intentionally never face to face with other characters.

I really love The Long Dark got it both on PC and console.

An obvious one for if you do a part 2: Pacific Drive. You speak to some people over the radio but you never see another living soul. So bleak and unforgiving. Great game.

Also, Superliminal. A little bit Stanley Parable, a little bit Witness, but a lot of Alice in Wonderland. Great mechanic to teach one to look for new pespectives on problems.

The long dark and returnal are 2 of my favorites. They are very different from each other, but both are amazing games.

I would say Firewatch, yeah you have your friend on the walkie, and there was one moment where there was some campers as shadows in the distance - but you were essentially alone the whole game.

"Firewatch" on the switch from 2016 had you spend the entire game completely isolated, if I remember correctly

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights really nailed the loneliness, hopelessness, and despair for me. It manages to make you feel almost helpless, coupled with the very sad and depressing storyline. So sad it didn't get much traction

I'm surprised that Antichamber didn't make the list. It is in a very similar vein to portal, except there is no main antagonist. You are just trying to escape.

I love the Myst games so much. My mom used to play them when they first came out and then got me into them several years a go and the world is just so cool and interesting.
