I have no affiliation to any of these schools, but college football is better when FSU, Florida and Miami are elite. We, as college football fans, need these teams to be back! Also, I would like to see all 3 teams play each other every year as well.
I was there, nearly passed out from the heat and lack of water (beer is a poor substitute). Yelled my ass off, was sick for a week, but it was so worth it!
I was at the game and nearly left after the fsu td. When miami scored, the OB literally swayed. When FSu missed the fg,there were random people falling on top of me in sheer ecstasy
The greatest era of football being just freaking fully dominated I mean completely owned by the U… We had a NFL franchise for the better part of a decade and the 99-2004/‘05.. Was just amazing euphoria and wondering what the Godly impacts were going to happen and take place in that game. It was just so amazing to know that you were not going to lose.. 58 str8 at home….!!! I bet nobody ever come close to the feat.. Thank you for the Classic Video my dude..
As an FSU fan and South Florida native, I completely agree. I was at this game. Brutally hot and no water to be found other than the anemic trickle of the ancient water fountains.
Yes I totally agree, I used to go to the old OB to watch the Dolphins back in the 70s . The place was run down and water leaked under the seats but it definitely had character. Great memories back then RIP Orange Bowl thanks for those days 🍊🏈
Not under Al Golden. 0/5 against FSU. hopefully Mark Richt can bring Miami back. Florida State/Miami makes College Football exciting to watch. especially when both teams are competing for national titles.
Florida State couldn't must up an ounce of offense in that lame game and Oklahoma only came with 13 points. Miami's offense with Dorsey, Wayne, Moss, Shockey, Portis, Davenport, Jackson ... downright scary ... and that defense with Reed, Morgan, Vilma, et al. Wouldn't have even been a contest. Canes got off to a rough start at Washington that year. Long-ass road trip but turned it around the second half. :30 in that one and Miami wins, 36-34 and winds up in the title game, pounding Nebraska down south in the Orange Bowl Classic in front of a home crowd .... much like it did a solid Florida team in the Sugar Bowl.
Make no mistake, Oklahoma was very competitive that year, if they played Miami, Miami would win but it would be far from easy, in fact, it would be a war
The win over UCLA led to this win but make no mistake, beating the Noles that year signaled we were finally back. After all, you have to beat the man to be the man and we did that glorious Saturday afternoon.
I was at that game on the 20 yard line 10 rows up. The fsu fan sitting next to me told me "good game maybe we'll win next year" after their last score. I told him the game's not over with yet. There was a minute and a half left on the clock. When Miami got down to the end zone I told him watch this tight end over the middle. And what happened Shockey went post and caught it and drove in the endzone. He asked me how I knew that? I told him that was Miami's bread-and-butter play we always run it. That and I drove from Pensacola down to Miami to see it. It was a dream come true! In the the O.B. baby the Orange Bowl ! Then the following year I went to Tally to watch Miami destroy fsu. Florida
Miami beat #1 FSU and ended up with the same record yet FSU got in over Miami? To this day I say we should've had 3 back to back championships if it wasn't for the deep hate of Miami
I went to this game. I was on vacation with my girlfriend who happened to be from Miami and bought tickets at the last minute. We sat in the end zone seats where Jeremy shockey caught the winning touchdown. Good times times
Y'all are going to be good again within about 3 years. Golden has y'all going in the right direction and Stacy Coley will be a first team All American by the time he leaves. I expect a FSU-Miami ACC Championship Game next year and most likely for the next 5 years! Good luck in your bowl game this year
They could've started that drive at coconut Grove and Florida State wouldn't stopped. Think about this Miami got screwed out of three national championships first off they should've played Oklahoma for the national championship not Florida State. Second off they were robbed on the on a bad call at Notre Dame and probably the worst call in history of college football the passing that so-called pass interference against the suckeyes and one more thing to throw in the worst performance by any quarterback that played in a bowl game for Miami and you know who I am talking about talking about Vinny Testaverde against Penn State they should have four more national championships
I remember this game with my friends sitting at the end zone where Morgan made the interception - crowd went nuts. It was a typical south Fla hot and muggy day, so understand how Morgan was dehydrated. Definitely miss the old Orange Bowl - from the looks of things so do the Canes. Canes/Miami should build a stadium at Tropical park - good access to palmetto and 874.
Dorsey really did well for the Canes. Plus the WR room for Miami at this time was one to cause envy on anybody. Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss were #1 and #2, and #3 was Andre Johnson. Johnson is in Canton, Wayne has margin to be voted, Moss likely will not be enshrined, but was a solid #2 receiver for the Jets and Washington for many years.
yes and no. They lost a close game by 5 in a very hostile stadium, and literally ran out of time. The same can be said about fsu. Difference was miami beat fsu head to head and miami was ranked 7. Miami was screwed by the BCS. Miami would have beaten Oklahoma bc miami was a very well rounded team. FSU was all passing. Miami drops 40 on oklahom
Nothing in college football is more exciting than when these two teams are on top, facing each other. And of course, no other venue will ever be as special as the Orange Bowl was.
I concur, I made a trip to see Penn State vs. Miami in 1999 there. I was glad I got to see a exciting game there, in my opinion it was the Yankee Stadium of Football. Such great exciting games as Super Bowl III, V,X, & XVIII , The Epic in Miami, 1984 Orange Bowl, 1984 Maryland/Miami, 1992 FSU/MIAMI, 1989 MIAMI/NOTRE DAME, just to name a few games.
My memory sucks, but I think in either 2004 or 2005, the SEC made a deal to put their big matchups on CBS, also this game was Big East vs. ACC (In 2000, Big East, Big Ten, Mountain West, and Sun Belt were ESPN Plus, SEC and ACC, were Jefferson Pilot Sports (changed to Raycom soon after) Pac-10 and Big 12 were on Fox Sports Net)
They beat everyone on their schedule with the exception of Florida, but also the Canes beat a Nebraska team that was considered at that time one of the greatest offenses to ever play the game
@@otaviofrn_adv alright relax... it wasn't 1/3rd... that'll be about 10 players. In the 2001 draft; there were 4 1st rounders and in 2002, there was 5. Lets not over exaggerate. The Miami Hurricanes and Alabama Crimson Tide are currently tied for the record with 6 first-round picks who entered the NFL Draft in a single year. Back in 2004, Miami broke the record thanks to a star-studded defense.
Miami should have played in the National Championship game, not FSU. We beat them that year. One year before we grew up and became the greatest college football team ever.
+Aldrim Castillo As a lifelong Husker fan I miss that rickety old stadium. Too many memories good and bad not to. Sun Life in Miami Gardens doesn't do it for me.
What is crazy was, they had plans to build another football stadium there. I saw the drawings, it look like a smaller version of the Dolphins stadium. It was like a 50K seat stadium, which would have been perfect because it would be loud as hell, but baseball had the better bribe.
Yeah what a travesty to destroy the orange bowl not only did it house the greatest college team ever but it was also home to the greatest quarter back ever dan marino. never will be another orange bowl.
IAMJUSTAL couldn’t agree more. My dad grew up on those streets right by the OB when the fam came from Cuba in the late 60s. And this was the first game he took me to. The mystique of the U has been gone ever since the OB was torn down. Shameful
Dan Morgan was a beast at linebacker at the U. You know your legit when most of his teammates on defense are brothas. Much respect. If you can play you can play regardless of race.
The game that proved that The U returned for the early 2000s, I still wish Butch stayed at Miami after the Sugar Bowl. They have to bring back those uniforms b/c ever since we changed them we've stunk ever since.
I remember this game like it was yesterday @ 10:21 & 10:41 in the video a lot of fans around me in the west endzone looked like they had lost faith in the canes. I didn't though I knew that day something special was about to happen and I knew we would win this game. A lot of stars were born in this game a lot of pros were discovered in this game. After this game right here all the Hurricane Fans everywhere knew the canes were back.
I was a hard headed 17 yr old kid who sneaked into this game with my friends posing as community service workers for my high school 😉🤣🤪 it was a day to remember!!
Tend to agree Miami was screwed out of a national championship in 2000. If two teams have the same record and played against each other the head to head should be the tiebreaker
FSU did not deserve to play Oklahoma for the title, but they did earn a right to play in a BCS game for winning the ACC, Miami or Washington should have played OU for the title but this was 2000 and the BCS was a sham
The good ol days. Speed all over the field. Sad thing is once they got rid of the Orange Bowl Stadium the Canes haven't been the same since. If it isn't broke don't fix it. Smh
The opportunity kinda presented itself to get rid of the place. Miami wasn't being the same Miami, was dying a slow death since at least 2005. But I agree, they should've never took that place down.
I thought that this video was suppose to be a mixture of canes and noles highlights, it's mostly cane highlights. I actually remember this game, the noles made a nice comeback, but failed to capitalize on a field goal which would've tied the game.
Herbstreit says he didn't hear from fans in 2000 when Miami was snubbed from playing in the BCS Championship despite beating Florida State in the regular season. The Seminoles eventually lost to Oklahoma in the title game. "You were big fans of the turnout back then-of course most of you, in this despicable lunatic fringe," he said.
Oklahoma won the NC that year(2000) and they beat FSU in the Orange Bowl. Florida won the SEC and went to the Sugar bowl. Florida was 10-2 going into the bowl game and Miami was 10-1. Oklahoma was 12-0 and FSU was the ACC champ posting a 10-1 record.
this is eerily similar to what's going on with this rivalry as of late. Fsu has won 7 straight and is a title contender, while Miami is off of sanctions, rebuilding, and trending upward. could history be shaping up to repeat itself? sept. 16th we'll find out!
one could argue that our D is just as good! if not better! our front 7 is definitely better! if I'm not mistaken fsu had the same ? at qb last year, but luckily for yall francios panned out. also fsu has lost its main weapon in dalvin cook along with your top WRs. cook was 85% of your offense, so where is that production gonna come from??? I can't deny your D will be good, but the offense is a ? we have many weapons on Offense, the only ? is our qb. N'kosi Perry has the potential to come in and be a day 1 starter like kaaya did, but he's much more athletic and has a stronger arm so we'll see! Dalvin Cook can't save you this year! :)
K. dot Can Akers! Remember the name because he'll be giving y'all nightmares just like Cook did for the past 3 years lol. And Derwin James is back this year so don't forget about him. Y'all just make sure y'all work on keeping your QB up right lol.
cam running like dalvin? doubt it! and keeping francois up is something yall should be thinking about because we almost killed him last year! as far as Derwin, he can't play all 11 positions at one time! ;)
you can say the same thing about the TE's Frank - Shockey- Winslow- Oslen-and the beat goes on. RB's Jackson-Portis-Wllis-Gore and the beat goes on. WR's Moss-Wayne-Johnson, etc etc you name the position the beat goes on. NFL U
Florida was 8-2-1 at the end of the 1983 season and beat Iowa in the Gator Bowl. The National Title that year was split between Miami and Auburn. Miami lost to the Gators 28-3 in the opener. Then they went through their touch Independent schedule beating teams like Houston, Duke, Louisville, Cincinnati, East Carolina. Yes they beat Notre Dame and FSU, but that shows what an easy schedule they had. Now they are in a real conference(although weak) they can't even make it to the Conference CG.
