I’ve done clutches when I was at college learning mechanics at 16 years old (I’m not in the mechanic trade now) and two of us used to struggle lifting them into position, how he does it alone and on his back is Just amazing haha..
I finished swapping my clutch and flywheel today. The hardest part for me was to put the transmission back on. Without your video I wouldnt have had the confidence to do it myself! Thank you Kevin Albert Williams Greetings Michael from Germany
Hard working man, I wish you every success. That was a good job, efficiently done. Wrestling the box in and out on your own must have been demanding enough.
Thanks for posting such an informative and clear video, I am just about to 'try' to replace the clutch (free of any labour charge) on an '03 Freelander owned by a lady I know who simply can't afford to have it done professionally. I haven't done the job on a car with a transverse engine before so hope that your excellent step by step video will be the difference between succes and failure. So here we go :)
As a mobile van based truck engineer myself I can help noticing that it never seems to be raining or windy and the birds are always singing in the background. Every time I set my outside work station up it immediately starts to piss down.
Just done one on mine exact colour aswell but the 3 door one! 2003 s model I put a solid flywheel in a DMR brand one and I must say I’m impressed brilliant quality
For the record thats a Bmw Getrag box and its a really heavy bugger,,, how he got that in alone on his back using the old knees is bloody impressive,,,,and no cursing too,,,,a very skilful and disciplined lad,,,,
The slave cylinder went on our TD4 Freelander. When I realised how difficult it would be to get in there are asked the mechanic to put a new Valeo solid flywheel and clutch kit plus a Tazu metal slave cylinder. Normally I work on my own cars but this looked horrible. I'm impressed that you do this on axle stands as my mechanic has a twin post lift in a nice warm dry workshop.
Daniel Robinson thanks a lot as always for the continued input on the channel ... It was a heavy box ... and the cold day really added to it all. But it ended nicely.
Nota 19.
Big respect! without a crane this is veri difficult to do,and i also did it once and i don't think it would occur to me anymore. Once again, great respect for perseverance and greetings from Novi Sad,Serbia.
Hola cómo estás. Soy Fabio desde España . Gracias por tu trabajo y paciencia. Te puedes imaginar que estás ayudando personas de todo el mu mundo con tu vídeo? Un saludo y thank you again
Massive respect for what you do.. And always been interested in why some labour costs are so high... But in this instance surely the cost of parts and labour far outweigh the worth of a 51 plate Freelander... Completely put me off ever buying one. Awesome video btw.
Super! Thanks for sharing this. Gives me the confidence to tackle the job myself. My haynes mannual is a bit vague on how to remove the gearchange linkage which you demonstrate in this video - from Kenya
Fair play to you Kevin-Albert. I did one of these on the drive in November. Admittedly I have back problems, but I used an engine crane, it still took me a week and I wanted to put a match to it after about 2 hours...
@@WMCS ha ha.. not sure how much I saved, but I did get a nice new compressor, impact gun, insane amount torque wrench.... Just can't get over you bench pressing the IRD, makes me laugh thinking about it...
good job. although today I have seen him suffer with that heavy gearbox. Dmf also in poor condition means more work but with good tools it has been little trouble. thanks for sharing.
Just used this video to change my throwout bearing, great video 👍 but for some reason i cant airout the system, I have no leaks but its like it wont make Any pressure in the clutch pedal.
Have you ever had any issues with that clutch align tool? really must invest in one, usually I use a 1/2 drive long reach socket to aline much clutches usually there is always one in my set that will fit the clutch spline hole and the hole on the crank perfectly, interesting that the tool your using just centers the disc on the pressure plate.
This is awesome ! I have the same issue with the slave cylinder and found oil on top of the clutch, is there a way do get off the gearbox without descending the motor ? I live in south of France maybe you know a good professional close to Montpellier or people who can help me ? Cheers
Kevin I was feeling for you I have a Jaguar 2.7xf which took me 2 days although I don't normally do large repairs I'll never have a Jag again Landrover engine
Hy mate i have a question if are don’t mind I have a freelander 2004 diesel and I have a problem drive ok when engine is cold but when engine is hot loses power I need to press the gas pedal maximum to Take speed and feels very slow car any idea what could be wrong
Abis Ismael thanks for your input. Unfortunately I’m not a torque wrench, tape measure and pencil behind the ear mechanic ... but whoever does a repair and feels the need to use torque wrench I highly recommend it ....😁

Have you moved away from Luk clutch kits for a reason or just so happens that latest customers wanted AP or Valeo? Only ask as I thought Luk were top quality or has that changed? Cheers 👍
offbeatwarble i always replace like for likes. These use AP from factory. In my opinion I wouldn’t say LUK is the best. But the most known brand. AP clutch are more superior. And never use and LUK in any vauxhall as the CSC are made of plastic. SACHS are great solid brand as well
Great job! This one seemed to be longer than usual, but maybe it wasn't. Not so many bolts, as I could see, but it was a very big gearbox, and sure very heavy as you used your legs to hold the weight. Was the DMF damaged? New bolts were included in the new DMF or you had to use the old ones? No need to torque them? By the way, I liked more the old musical intro. It was very suitable together with the retro-styled picture, as if Super Spanner had arrived! 😄 Thanks for the video!
Oscar Montero this job was the same as one of the previous... Only difference is one was made in the spring of last year nice and warm beautiful day ... this one has been filmed in 1• Celsius... notice how white the metal is from the cold ... fingers was a bit numb throughout the repair ... Good observation about the use of legs as at that point I’d pretty much lost sensation in all the fingers ... so could only feel the palm of my hand ... But with constant movement the body warms up and the hand is back to normal after about 2 hours .... New bolts came with the DMF, I don’t particularly have much use for a torque wrench purely because I know what I’m doing and can gauge how tight to go ... But for anyone that is unsure a torque wrench is highly recommended... That was quite a heavy box ... the trick is to carry on until it slots in otherwise time and strength are easily sapped .... Thanks a lot for your input and review of the channel.
Great Video. I replaced mine on 2004 td4 last year, replaced everything with Luk including the master cylinder. This week my pedal felt soft and today stuck on the floor and fluid on my drive, looks like Concentric slave has give out 😕 looks like i will be doing it again in the next week or two. Picked up some tips from this vid so will hopefully save some time, how long did this job take you 👍👍
J.F I’ve done quite a bit of the newer ones. I have come across the a few gearbox issues with the end bearing collapsing ... does that sound about right.
Kevin, how come everything seems to go right for you!? everytime i do a job on my car i always run into a nut or bolt or something that stops me dead haha
@@WMCS I really like your videos they r very informative , I'm a mobile mechanic and I fix cars by the side of the road as same as you do so if I know the time how long it take . it would help me greatly 👍
marin khan that’s great to hear from a fellow mobile mechanic .... I’ll definitely put in the link the hours. But feel free to message me if ever you require a repair time for any job. Where about’s are you based.
@@WMCS hi I'm based in tunbridge wells , kent . I've seen a lot of your high quality videos and to be honest with u , ur doing a very good job but a word of advice plz 🙂🙂 . when you replacing a gearbox please use engine Beam to lower and left up the gearbox the reason I'm saying that I've learned it the hard way , I have had few time that the gearbox drop on top of me 🤣🤣🤣 , and I'm pretty sure you had it as well 😀😉 . Keep the good work mate 👍👍👍👍
I never saw anyone like Kevin change the drive and the luggage of all the cars alone. Of course you have a lot of money the day you change 3 clutch locks and you make good money.😁😁
seyed rozbeh siros I think i do it more because I enjoy the adrenaline of the job. Believe it or not it’s a real buzz for me tackling these clutches on my own ... especially if the weather is quite stormy ... really adds to the scenery. Thanks always for your positive review
@@WMCS I love your work and by looking at your movies I have repaired my own disk and page 206 and thank you for making these videos available to people💝💝Sorry what country are you from I am from Iran
seyed rozbeh siros appreciate you sharing your experience on the channel forum. Glad to hear the video came through ok for you. We are based in the UK..
