This is a step-by-step tutorial on how to replace the front brake pads on a 2004 Honda CBR600RR. The procedure is identical for 2003-2004 models, and slightly different for 2005-2006.
Tools needed:
- 2003-04: 12mm socket
- 2005-06: 14mm socket
- ratchet
- torque wrench
- 8mm combination wrench or socket
- Phillips screw driver
- Brake cleaner
- Brass wire brush
- Brake caliper grease
- towels/rags
- old wire coat hanger
Parts used (2003-04):
- two pairs of EBC HH brake pads (P/N FA296HH), ~$37/pair
- four new caliper bolts (P/N 90131-KBV-003), ~$4 each
- McMaster-Carr alternate for caliper bolts (P/N 95735A435), ~$8 for 25 pcs; will also need to add blue Loctite
Parts used (2005-06):
- two pairs of EBC HH brake pads (P/N FA390HH), ~$37/pair
- four new caliper bolts (P/N 90131-MEL-000), ~$10 each
Torque specs (2003-04):
- caliper bolts (12mm head): 22 ft-lbs
- brake pad pins (5mm allen head): 13 ft-lbs
Torque specs (2005-06):
- caliper bolts (14mm head): 33 ft-lbs

Good video up but I have brake pressure issues post installation. I don't think opening the reservoir is a wise choice, I did it per the video. I pumped the brakes till they were firm again after bolting the calipers and new brakes back on. I may need to bleed the system, however it doesn't look like you had to bleed the system? Odd. Could be I just need to let them bed in? Btw, I have a 04 CBR600RR red like yours, with the black tail instead. I forget what the color code is.

Reuse the bolts 1 or twice max. Watch some championship races. No one carries an extra set of bolts for calipers. If you feel it's too much of a risk for you, you can buy locktight to put on each bolt. Make sure it's the motorcycle friendly locktight

Thanks Kevin. To clarify, the concern with a torque-to-yield type of bolt is not that it will come loose with vibration (which is what Loctite helps with), it's that it will actually fail from shear or tensile loads and just pop off. Changing it every single time is probably not necessary for this application, but as you said once or twice should be quite conservative.
