This is a step-by-step tutorial on how to replace the front brake pads on a 2004 Honda CBR600RR. The procedure is identical for 2003-2004 models, and slightly different for 2005-2006.
Tools needed:
- 2003-04: 12mm socket
- 2005-06: 14mm socket
- ratchet
- torque wrench
- 8mm combination wrench or socket
- Phillips screw driver
- Brake cleaner
- Brass wire brush
- Brake caliper grease
- towels/rags
- old wire coat hanger
Parts used (2003-04):
- two pairs of EBC HH brake pads (P/N FA296HH), ~$37/pair
- four new caliper bolts (P/N 90131-KBV-003), ~$4 each
- McMaster-Carr alternate for caliper bolts (P/N 95735A435), ~$8 for 25 pcs; will also need to add blue Loctite
Parts used (2005-06):
- two pairs of EBC HH brake pads (P/N FA390HH), ~$37/pair
- four new caliper bolts (P/N 90131-MEL-000), ~$10 each
Torque specs (2003-04):
- caliper bolts (12mm head): 22 ft-lbs
- brake pad pins (5mm allen head): 13 ft-lbs
Torque specs (2005-06):
- caliper bolts (14mm head): 33 ft-lbs
- brake pad pins (5mm allen head): 11 ft-lbs
