2005 Ford Explorer broken gear shifter

Dude, you saved my butt. Just loaded down with over $350 worth of groceries for myself and a half dozen elderly people that can’t get to the store, we got 5” of snow in Tennessee and everything comes to a stop. Grew up in Chicago so snows no big deal for me. Started my truck, went to put it in gear and Snap. Had the tools, took about 30 minutes following your video, I’m 62 and slow, Now Bang I’m rollin. This 05 Sport trac is the only vehicle I ever bought new and it’s been nothing but trouble. One problem after another, started with my front wheel bearings, have to replace them every 20,000 miles, been down hill ever since. It’s Jan 7th 2022 and I’ve got 51,000 miles on it. Always something as you can tell by the mileage. I Thank You and so do 6 elderly couples in their late 80’s, early 90’s and my Mom who is 102. I showed them all your video. Mine broke as I went to back into a parking spot at home Depot. I went Into the store told them what happened told them I got a tow truck on to the way. But they got there own tow service goin to to hook up when I jumped in with knowledge I got from you're video and I drove my vehicle outta there. So thank you for this helpful video.

This literally just happened to me too. I was about to go under the vehicle and manually shift it right where the shifter connects to the Trans but I was like "There's gotta be a better way" Keep it up bro your video was a life saver

My nigga. I was down bad stuck and stranded. At 1st whatever you showed us didn't work for me but then I just pushed on it different. Kind of like how it was giving you a struggle at the beginning. I'm on my way home now happy as hell

This worked for me but I had a lot of trouble. It would not budge from park. So I popped the cable off the swivel and grabbed it with vice grips and still had to use a screwdriver through the grips as a lever to pull the cable outwards. Once out of park it shifted easily by just pushing or pulling the end of the cable.

this happened and my macanic had to take out the wheel to replace it. i bought the part off ling took about two weeeks to get it cost like $35 and i was only charged &75 installment.

hope this work I broke my trying to take off while a bit up hill & pulled the thing to hard and now it's all loose

Hey Stan, i have an 01 f250, which i tried to sell to a friend on payments, big mistake. When i repoed it, guy had messed up quite a bit on the vehicle. He took the overdrive button off the lever and put it on a toggle switch, so he could put something "fancy" on the end, well, other day, trying to shift up to park, i hear a snap. A pin has broke into 2, and my shifter moves freely. Any ideas?

I was able to move the linkage, but I can't get the key to release, I wonder is that done electronically or mechanically? I see two contacts connected to blue boxes with wires coming out, maybe they need to touch something to get the key out?

Literally just happened to me with my 02 Explorer, but I can't seem to get the gears to shift. I was able to figure out how to get the key out and I already ordered the necessary part, but I'd love to be able to get it home til I can get a tow.

Great video, the same thing happened to me, but here is the best thing I found the oem replacement part at rockauto.com for under 44.00 do you have a repair video? oh by the way the reason I mentioned the website is because I couldn't find the part anywhere in the Cleveland area part stores
