My first edited video of the modifications to the stock exhaust on my vtx. Let's you hear the before and after of me drilling three 1/2" holes in each of the two exhaust baffles on the pipes.
I tried it. I drilled 6 holes in each muffler. It's sounded hollow and kinda tinny. Not what I wanted at all. So I took off the angle pieces off the end of each muffler (cut the welds with a Dremel tool) and cut off the back of each baffle completely. Then I remounted the angle pieces with self tapping screws (bottom and back side so they're not visible) and WOW. They sound as good as any after market mufflers and it's free!!
I should add, you should follow the mod up with taking your carb off and adding a #4 washer under the needle. Then after installing the carb, adjust the air mixture screw to get the best performance. There's another video on here that shows just how to fine tune the mixture screw to get it just right.
@Painter D - I have the 07 VTX 1300C. I've seen your comments in other debaffle videos. One comment, you said you used two washers under the needle. Another you commented using a #4 washer. So, what works best? I plan on gutting my stock exhaust like, another RU-vidr did to his burgundy VTX. Thoughts?
Not sure the exact model but they are viking brand. Vikingbags.com check them out! My only complaint is they wobble a lot as you ride but that is due to the brackets more than a complaint about the bags.
Clive Duberley I wouldn't say there was any performance added. I was mainly just looking for more sound. I would say it created more flow out of the muffler so I guess it could have added some performance. I'm hoping to get a set of Hard Krome 3" straight pipes next.
Thanks Kevomerko just traded my Ducati in for a Vx 1300 coming on 26 th April yours looks like a simple mod and sounds good ,has it passed MOT test with mod done ?
It is a very simple mod to get you a little more sound from the stock exhaust. Where I live there is no emissions testing of any sort so it was not a concern of mine. I would check into that before you try it out because once you start drilling there's no turning back!
