Love my 2009 RAV4 V6 SPORT. The 3.5L V6 and 5-speed automatic makes all the difference.

Probably the craziest thing about this generation RAV4 that I oddly like was that some of them were offered with 3rd row seating.

I have one of those. It comes with 17" wheels, beefier suspension, and 330# of added weight capacity.

My step sister used to have a V6 of this gen, it really was quite a rocket from what I remember.

My sister and I went to a private school for a few years and she was on the volleyball team. There was a dude in my graduating class who went to all the volleyball games and he had a V6 RAV4 in this exact same color. I remember riding with him and a few others to a restaurant after a game and he floored it once and it was surprisingly quick. It’s also worth noting that these came with an optional 3rd row that was practically useless, but his didn’t have it. Would be interesting if you could track down a V6 with the optional 3rd row.

I think this generation looks really nice, this and the current 2019+ Gen are my favorites in terms of styling. The 2001 to 2005 is nice too but they just look too old school for me.
@department_zero
@department_zero 2 года назад
Personally, I like the 2001 to 2005 better than all the rest mainly because the styling felt freer and more expressive. It also had a 2-door version which very much boosts the score for me. I do think the 2006 gen RAV4 is right behind it though. My ranking is: 1st place: 2001-2005 2nd place: 2006 3rd place 2019+

Thought this gen of the RAV4 looked the best inside and out. If I'd rank the RAVs, it would be: 3rd gen, 2nd gen, 5th gen, 1st gen, 4th gen 😀

@@department_zero The 06 just looks more comfy and solid, and I’m not really into late 90s early 2000s cars that much.

OH and BTW, I'm from Michigan, so I totally understand the "driving around aimlessly" thing. I do it relatively frequently. Out of all my friends, I'm the oldest and the only one with a license, so I have a lot of fun just cruising with 1 or 2 of them, literally just driving around in my Monte Carlo looking for anything interesting, and talking about whatever comes to mind. Good times...

My band teacher in high school had a RAV4 that looked just like this one. He traded his blurple 1st gen Honda CRV for it when I was in 10th grade. One of my high school friends got a used white one when he wrecked his Camry. A college friend drove one of these in old man tan that his grandmother had given him. For a film project, I spent about an hour lying in the cargo area below the windows with the sound recorder. The spare tire is funny because Toyota just stuck it on there to look tough and off-roady despite knowing that it has no off-road ability. It's probably good that most were optioned with the tire because the tireless tailgate looks weird.

I had a 2005 Rav4 in High School that I really liked, it was a great car and I currently drive a 2016 Accord, but I'm gonna need something more useful utility wise when my current car gets paid off here soon but don't want to get anything huge or expensive either so I may look into one of these older 3rd gen Rav4's I could pay cash for and keep it for a long time.

It's worth pointing out the 2009 models and prior were all made in Japan. The V6 is a beast!

I have the JDM version of this rav4 with the same 2.4L engine but coupled to a 7 speed CVT gearbox with manual control. Seems like there are a lil bit more features standard for the JDM version.

The RAV4 with a 3.5 L V6 was at one point Toyota’s fastest car in their lineup.

I'd say it was right up there with the Camry V6 (from 2007 and up) and the Avalon, as they had the same engine and were lighter. The Camry V6 even got a 6 speed automatic transmission which would help with faster acceleration.
@damilolaakanni
@damilolaakanni 2 года назад
The Tacoma only started to have a 3.5 V6 with the introduction of the 3rd gen in 2016. And I'm pretty sure it's a different engine from the one in the Camry. And in other markets you could get these with a diesel and a five (?) speed manual transmission. Some of the US models had a third row, which is weird considering the bigger Highlander also had a third row. 2006-2009 models are pretty boring style wise, the 2010-2012, especially the 2012 sport models had pretty interesting styling.

@damilolaakanni
@damilolaakanni 5 месяцев назад
@user-cp1qh9jv6c he mentioned that the Tacoma uses this engine, it actually doesn't. That Tacoma engine is the 2GR-FKS engine. Same displacement, but different engines. In this era (2006), the Tacoma's V6 was the 1GR-FE (4.0) also used in the 4Runner and Tundra base models.

Could you get it as a RWD or not? Cause if you get a RAV4 from TOYOTA i guess you can get it in a RWD on some cars or Trucks pickup trucks by the way at a different car/pickup trucks/SUVs/convertible like when you are either at CHEVROLET or Ford like the MUSTANG or something like that

I'm surprised that it's not a V6, being a limited. My mom is now on her 3rd RAV4, a 2019 LE. She previously had both a 2014 and 2016 LE model. I've heard questionable things about those 2.4 engines, I've heard that they are excellent, and that they are junk.
@damilolaakanni
@damilolaakanni 2 года назад
The 2.4 is a great engine, if you stay on top of maintenance i.e oil changes. They love to consume oil. The 2.5 that replaced it in 2009 was a better engine in that regard.

The RAV4 and Camry of this era always started feeling bloated and cost cut to me. Even when they were new. At least the cheapness of Toyota improved over the years, but I actually thought the previous gen RAV4 and Camry compared to this were plain, but nicely styled. More importantly, they looked lean, and drove decently if forgettable.
