In this video i will show you how to replace the intake camshaft on a 2006 Passat 2.0 turbo, the cam got damage by the cam follower from the high fuel pressure pump, this follower are prone to do this.

What a pain in the a$$ this job is! From fooling with the motor mount clearance to specialized tools to remove the cam socket and hydraulic adjuster, to no oem system for cam chain timing (though I did notice what appeared to be an [top] indicator on the intake cam) and waiting for parts. But, with your guidance and helpful suggestions it was a successful operation. Thanks for posting your video. Quite helpful!

I like your added timing punch marks, good idea. I know you did not show each and every step but an important step on every timing job is to set up the factory timing marks, or your own, reassemble the timing belt in and then rotate the engine 2 crankshaft rotations to double-check timing marks on the engine and gears, of course, the chain is not going to align. Thank you for the nice video.

Tengo un vw passat 2008 2.0 t empezo hacer un ruido extraño y prendio el anuncio de baja precion de aceite quite el carter y encontre particulas de plastico como de las guias de un tensor pero el tensor de la cadena que mueve la bomba de aceite esta entero y ahora que gracias a tu video me doy cuenta que lleva otra cadena y un tensor en la parte trasera de los arboles de levas, muchas gracias exelente video

Great Job- I just did a same engine on an Audi, replaced the both cams and now car won’t start. It cranks tho, no codes yet.

Would liked to have seen the cam seals replaced. Was told by shop it requires special tools to install or could be lot of damage to engine if they are not done right.

Quick question boss, I'm in the process of this and now my cams don't align and I only lifted them up, so I need to move crank back down for the cams to align with out it hitting or tension?

Is it possibly to leave the timing belt and exhaust cam in place and just do the intake cam? Im looking at swapping it and my timing belt was just done so I have no reason to take it off.

I'm surprised you didn't change the chain tensioner while you had it apart. They are prone to failure and very cheap with respect to the amount that job must have cost. Otherwise good job and thanks for the vid.

My friend. I have this same exact car and was wondering how to boost it or if I can add another type of turbo in it as well? Is this possible. I love watching this video. I'm going to need to replace my intake cam also along with the tensioner and chain. Question.. .. In hind sight, Did you really have to remove anything from the exhaust cam? (pulley and balancer) seems like they could've stayed attached. Thanks

Danon Prosser on the exhaust cam you need to remove the front sprocket to replace the seal and to remove the flange (black metal). The rear cam phaser no need to remove it.

Maic Salazar Diagnostics that's good news. It's an expensive socket and can strip the bolt (from what I've read), so if I can leave it on, it makes me feel better.

Is it really worth it, after that much metal as gone through the engine? Those missing pieces must have there way into the oil pan, oil pump and therefore possibly through the oil galleries?

Nice video's I wanted to ask you a? I have the same car with 125k my car cranks but won't turn on would it not turn on do to the Cam positioned sensor cause I had to give it a jump alot of the times so it would turn on and now it won't

Jonathan Pena it is a little hard to understand your post. So the car cranks but don't start? It cranks normal or it sound slow? You need it to jump start before to start, that sounds like a battery or starter issue! The cam sensor is a main input a the engine would not start if no cam signal is detected, but that would give you a fault code for sure! Same thing would happen if you are missing the crank signal.

No se a que punto te refieres. El arbol de levas de admisión se pone a tiempo con la herramienta que muestro en el minuto 9:37 y el pin en el cigüeñal.

Great video, I have the same issue on my 07 Passat that I'm getting done now the cam fowler was shot and cam shaft needs to be fixed. I also had the timing belt, water pump, cam chain tensioner. What was the cost of your repair? Curious to see if it's the same?

Uff that hurts!! Make sure from now on to use the correct oil (European blend) for your car. Also check that follower every 30k miles or less so you don't end up with the cam damaged again.

Jose jr Garcia well it can be a numerous of things! So the problem is a crank no start or no crank no start? Have you try a different key to see if problem is a bad key? If cranks then you need to check for fuel pressure and spark.

If my serpentine belt shred into pieces and i took apart the top cover of the timing belt and saw a cable stuck in the top gear, but the timing belt is not broken should i take apart everything to clean that? i have crank, no start problem.

Diego Sepu if you have pieces of the serpentine belt on the cam sprocket, there is a big chance that the timing belt has jump when that happened. So yes remove to clean and recheck timing marks.

Maic Salazar Diagnostics Should the camshaft and crankshaft marks align every turn? Mines align every two full turns of the crankshaft. I have code P0016 which is crankshaft camshaft position correlation. Took the chain cover off and the chain and chain tensioner look fine. Fuel pump and cam follower look fine too. I don't know what can be wrong. Thanks

Thanks for the great video ! Can you maybe tell me the name of the torx youre talking about at 8:09? I got also much slide on it with a T50 torx in it. It should be another type/profile torx T50 i guess. And do you maybe know with how many Nm you have to fix that special bolt? Many thanks from Holland

This is the special socket you need for to remove the actuator at the back. Everything is almost ready for to be installed. Only that special torx screw need to get out. I will order the socket and take it off. hi, the cam chain and tensioner on my car broke while stopping at a red light. i've replaced both parts and aligned everything back. now i am getting 150psi on cylinders 1 and 3. but cylinders 2 and 4 has only 90psi with compression test. the car starts and runs but shaking like crazy. can you please tell me something to check for? thank you.

I am going to be doing this soon but to get to the stem seals instead of replacing the intake cam. I'm debating whether to replace the cam chain and tensioner while I'm in there. What are your thoughts on this? It looks like you reused the chain and tensioner on this car.

Woody Ridenour you can check the chain by length and visually inspect the tensioner. I did request to replace those in this car just to be safe but costumer decline.

I've looked at them and they certainly look ok, but with the failure rate, I may go ahead and replace. Are these parts with which you would go genuine, or would a Febi or Ina brand be ok?

Stephen Holmes you need the timing tool to hold the cams and to secure crank on timing, the puller to remove the front sprocket, the torx socket for the rear cam advancer.

Hi. The video is awsome. My son has a 2008 VW Jetta GLI. His timing belt broke so he had a friend replace the belt along with the valves. Long story short engine runs but with a slight hesitation. My OBM recorded P0016 Cam and Crank sensor correlation bank one sensor A Also P0238 turbo/ booster sensor A circuit High. and P0100 mass or volume air flow. I believe the timing is off. Maybe the chain on the right of the engine? Any suggestions?

alex hernandez the cam-crank correlation is probably caused by bad timing so recheck work is need it. The boost sensor is just a pressure sensor, the code means that is constantly high, so it is a 3 wire sensor ground - power feed and a signal, if power and ground is good, check signal wire for short to power if not then replace sensor. On the MAF Common Problems That Trigger the P0100 Code The MAF Sensor is unplugged or the wiring is damaged Loose or corroded electrical terminals in the MAF Sensor circuit Faulty MAF Sensor. Same principal as pressure sensor. Check wiring and connector and let me know. MAF might need to check signal for drops while in idle and snap throttle.

zuperzleeper you need to tool to be sure nothing goes out off timing. I wouldn’t do it without the tool

Señor Maic, how much would i job like this cost? My car has the same problem but the dealer is over charging me i think. I have a 2009 vw passat b6 Turbo . Vivo en Canada.

It is hard to say, I don't charge the costumers, that is the service department. On an engine like the one on this video, parts and labor I will guess around 4k

bubbs tubbs well that was 3 years ago. Not sure how much was the repair at the time. But we give the costumer a full estimate and he ok it!

Fernando Mendez well there is no special procedure on that. As per timing the engine which I did show here, so chain and the rest is on timing!

He also did it the easier way than dealing with the cam adjust bolt. That bolt is torqued at like 80ftlbs, and most of the time strip out, as well you need to replace that bolt each time you take it out. Instead he removed the timjng belt and went st it that way. If you need a vid on that, checknout astral auto vids. They did an audi 2.0t, which is the same, just pointing forward instead of sideways motor wise. They are the only way i was able to accomplish a tensioner job. Good vid tho good sir. Eapecially considering your doin the work, and having to video on your own too.

I discovered an oil leak around my turbo on mk5 Gti 2007. Can you tell me what this pipe is shown on my picture link. Oil is all over the diverter valve as well. It seems oil is leaking from the pipe above diverter valve. Thank you! Great work as usual bro. Oil leaks are hard to find, specially from a picture. I will check for a Defective Crankcase Pressure Regulating Valve, it usually brakes and creates vacuum on engine so the weakest seal would show. If this is not your case then clean the area and run the car to see where is coming from.

Maic Salazar i checked where its leaking from and its the pipe next to the rear crankcase breather tube. The pipe that goes from the valve cover down straight to the turbo (leaking where it connects to turbo) and its coved in silver blanket heat shield wrapping it looks like. Any idea what this tube is.
