Bro u dont know how much this video helped me. I was struggling trying to diagnose this same issue and I was stuck thinking it was a ews Isn issue because I also did the same thing you did with the spare valve body. I searched for hours on end watching RU-vid videos trying to find someone with the same problem and had an answer for cause/solution. Wow…..a really great job on this diag, Sadel. It reminded me when I pulled a Subaru H6 engine for a head gasket job. Subaru’s service info mentioned a special tool to hold the torque converter in place but I said “nah, I don’t need it.” Little did I know that the Subaru converter had three splines to seat (and of course the converter came off slightly when pulling the motor). It was a royal PAIN getting that final spline section to ‘sit’. I should have bought the special converter locking tool! I hope you and the family have a wonderful Christmas, brother.

I m very impressed by the way you went about trouble shooting, first with error codes, then by process of elimination, then finally by looking at the history, and determining the cause by seeing the poor workmanship for the engine swap, and summizing that poor workmanship caused downstream damage. Wha!!!! God made you for a purpose! Here is our client's problem: Client's 523i is disengaging into Park as in video when you release the brake pedal to drive off. Meanwhile, a scanner is showing actual gear is 1st Gear in any knob position.... In Neutral, car is trying to move forward, but laboring like you've stepped on the brakes....and the scanner can't access the Gear Selector Module..... We agree with you on the low ATF as someone changed the fluid after sump damage and we guess they nenver run engine when topping up! Will notify you accordingly 😊
Great work! Question about the repair though, did you just swap out the front pump from the other transmission to replace the one that was damaged during engine install? Wouldn't you be worried about the metal shavings being in other parts of the transmission, causing future damage?? Thanks.
What if the engine or the transmission is still the same the car came with? Transmission oil not getting sucked up and exactly same deal as you have. Great video helps me find answers for my E70. Thank you
Wish i had your help. Used transmission install in a '10 x5 e70 and vehicle runs but no gear at all, no drive, no reverse, wont even go to neutral its just all park gear. Now, yes i can change valve bodies back to the original one, but isnt there some type of software to just reprogram this transmission to its new vin? Kind of like GMs SPS2/TDS system on acdelo? Or like fords IDS/FJD? Isnt there a software to program these like we would anything else?
Any idea what's wrong with mine .. 2014 bmw 320i Says on dash not possible to shift out of park .. Lights on electric shifter don't even come on.. Transmission was going strong nothing with it i know that.. Was sitting for a year
it sounds like you might have a module not communicating, you will need to have it scanned completely and see if there is bus issues present, or at least get an idea of what codes there are.

I myself have only seen this once (which obviously is the video here in question) and it was caused by human error from incorrectly installing the engine they damaged the transmission oil pump. Otherwise I have never seen this. You could have similar issue though if for some reason the oil pump failed somehow, or the feed to the pump is bad or just simply not enough fluid in the system, because all this on mine had to do with a loss of fluid pressure and so the vehicle wouldn't get out of park
not in any of the data in the scanner I was using, not sure on actual oem , but hard to say since there is no actual pressure sensor inside the transmission
hi i got BMW E 65 740 i 2007 160.000 km automatic transmission stuck car can not move any gear .Before that car hard shifting last transmission service do on 95.000 km .Bough valve body seal brand new filter ,oil replace also clean transmission valv with carby cleaner put back together .When start car not any lights on cluster ,but after 5 min car running come all light shift ,but no Parking and car not select any gear stuck can not move .What you things is problem .
I guess I’ll leave the bmws to the euro guys and stick to North American and Asian models. Too much struggle for nothing and the average owner of this very used European cars can’t even afford the upkeep just to say I drive a bmw or Mercedes and Audi.
