Be sure you're following the right process for checking the trans fluid level. Some vehicles require checking when transmission/engine is hot, others have more complex procedures. Check your manual!

One thing about Honda that differs from many other makes is that transmission is checked when ENGINE IS OFF, most other makes checking Transmission oil the engine running with car in park engine idling

Thanks for sharing. I did my fluid change a little different. 1. Warm up the vehicle until hot. 2. Jack it up on stands 3. remove bottom valance 4. Drained trans from the 3/8 square bolt. ( 4 quarts came out ) . 5. Added 4 quarts of DW-1 to Trans. 6.Disconnected the passenger side line connected to the transmission strainer 7.Attached a 5/16 barb fitting along with clear plastic hose to the line I disconnected and ran that hose into a bucket. 8. Had helper step on brake, start vehicle and run through the gearshifter twice. 9. Got 2 more quarts of dirty fluid pumped out 10. Added 2 quarts of more DW-1 to trans. 11. Had helper repeat same process as number 8. Did this for a total of 8 quarts. Checked fluid level ( fluid level is checked with vehicle hot and engine off on a level surface ) and now all the fluid is new. I also replaced the strainer which cost me $18. Total cost for me on this was $90

Excellent video! I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to change my ‘07’s transmission fluid myself after checking out your video. Thanks for pointing out to use a 3/8 wrench and showing the location of the fill hole and giving nice clear instructions with time to digest and process them. I've read you should drain and fill like you did but then drive around the block and drain and fill again. Just one drain and fill will change about half the fluid. Two drain and fills will get about 3/4 of the fluid changed.

when you just drain and top off it can vary. You should still check the fluid per the manual when you fill it back up. Knowing the 3.5 is useful. Thank you!

Great video, got an 08 as well... had any rear brake issues grinding or scraping noises? I found my wife's crv has each rear brakes go bad since the retaining pad clips that ride in the caliper brackets go bad and cause noise even with new pads and rotors. At 135,000 miles im noticing o2 censors going bad alsoright around this mileage.
@diysharing4277
@diysharing4277 4 года назад
If the brake caliper doesn't float free you can get some noise. Also if the rotors are slightly warped that can cause it as well. And the last idea I have is if the pads do not have a rubber like backing to dampen vibrations that can also cause noise.

Do you know why does it make a noise when doing sharp turns. I had already changed the differential fluid before because it was doing that same noise and it had stopped but after a while started doing the same noise again when turning. Do you have any suggestions of what else could it be? I already checked the rear differential fluid and it was clean and up to level. Thanks.

Honda recommend a flush involving 15 full lock turns either way on fresh fluid before 2nd refill. This cleans the clutch plates in the diff.

I have read on checking the level of the fluid should be done with a warm engine and NOT running.Is that correct?
@diysharing4277
@diysharing4277 5 лет назад
You can do it both ways hot and cold. It's easier to check cold since the engine is cool and sometimes you have to reach near the engine block to get to the dipstick. Just know that when the fluid gets hot it expands. So if you check cold, the level should not be right at the max line. You should have some room for expansion. I would just target to have the level in the middle. What I did was check mine before I changed it cold. It was good and I refilled it to the same level. Do this with the car not running....car should be off.

Weak points to watch, monitor, and maintain or change. Honda Auto Transmissions are weak/ Manual can't be beaten. AC compressors are weak go aftermarket to replace them. Rubber around windows, sunroofs etc.. use rubber restore sprays to restore on rubber, Just before fall to keep soft to avoid cracking. Also, spray on all underbody rubber Bushings, etc... For any car if you ever have to replace control arm bushings ignore OEM and get aftermarket NON Rubber silicon bushings as you will never have to replace them again they last 50+ years never crack etc...

Would you recommend using a torque wrench to tighten the drain plug to its specified torque amount? You did not use a torque wrench, so I'm guessing this is ok? Should I just make sure that I don't tighten the plug too tightly?
@diysharing4277

I'm sure you could look up the torque on the plug but hand tight with a strong snug is fine. You can treat these just like you do an oil change plug. The aluminum crush washer just needs to be fully set and take a set.

@richeyrich2203 3 года назад
It's important to see how much fluid comes out when you do a service like this. That way you can assure your putting back in close to what it had. It is possible you overfilled. Since this honda transmission is supposed to read at the second dot when HOT, not cold.
@diysharing4277

The level does change with temperature as stated below. If it's overserviced you should definitely adjust it to get it to the recommended level.

I know this is old, but I’m sure many others ask the same question. Really, if you buy a vehicle with over 100k miles, and don’t know the history of the automatic transmission, you do NOT want to change the fluid at all. Sounds odd, but it’s very common to have transmission problems or complete failures right after servicing a high mileage trans for the first time. Don’t get me wrong, regular service is definitely the best route, but a high mileage neglected trans already has excessive wear and the worn off friction material in the old, dark fluid may be all that is keeping the trans from slipping. Also, this does not pertain to a manual transmission, don’t hesitate to service a M/T, no matter the miles.
@HitsInSandbox
@HitsInSandbox 2 года назад
@@adamdewey5793 THe way around that is to drain in a clean container and store the old. If after the change you find it slips. Redrain and reinstall the old once again unless it is not the proper color. In such a case you would need to drain some of the new fluid and replace it with some of the old and see if that makes a difference. But to be fair with Honda I know for the diff the plates inside adjust to wearing and viscosity. So changing that fluid is vital.
