@@Jaedub86 Oh I saw it. Big difference is Gail was a multi event athlete and won many other Golds in the 100 at the Olympics. This was Lolo's one and only chance. That's why this one is sadder to me
Such a sad story for Lolo Jones. Sally Pearson then McMullen went on to be a beast in this event for a while. 100mH has been the most unpredictable race in Track and Field.
@chrisjone7555 Oh yeah, I saw. Time catches us all, though. As much as I love Lolo, she's just too old to demand elite times from her body. I was cheering for her, though. Super physical sports just aren't what you can do into your late 30s and early 40s. That's why you always have to work on your mind. Your mind will last a lot longer than your body
Sally's reaction is amazing, getting the silver and going nuts, I love it. Too often do we see athletes get silver and they seem bummed out. But here Sally earned a Silver medal at the Olympics and is celebrating her heart out. If I were an athlete and got a Silver or Bronze, I would be cheering my heart out because it means that out of everyone in the world that competes in that event, I was better than all but 1 or 2. Put things in perspective, there are entire countries that don't have a single olympic medal to their name and as an individual you have 1? You should celebrate.
There's a saying that "pressure busts pipes". And for sure, there's a lot of pressure on these athletes to come up big and be perfect in big moments like these... but sometimes it just doesn't happen. Sad to see this happen to Lolo. But she's a class act and she handled the situation with grace. God bless her. 🙏
Looking at the times in this final, compared to the last couple years and what the times will prob be at this coming Olympics, the event has definitely advanced and it's def a deeper field now too!
Amongst athletics connoisseurs Lolo was greatly loved (from a distance) in the U.K., and by me fondly remembered still to this day. She lost with courage, strength, and immense grace notwithstanding being rent asunder emotionally. Sport often trashes the best and of course in 2012 it physically smashed Sally. The extremes are the nature of sport but such is of absolutely no consolation when manifesting its brutal side.
This was definitely a defining moment for Lolo. As good as the other gals were (Dawn Harper, Sally Pearson, Priscilla Lopes) this was suppose to be Lolo's Gold Medal performance.
The media goes with the compelling story. It's not that deep. It's not a meritocracy. Their aim is to not be boring. What's wrong with that? Plus she was classy in her interview.
cant think of a worse event for an olympic final where theres no time recover after a mistake. the pressure to clear the hurdles at an event that happens every 4 years is tough.
1992.. Gail Devers crashed and lost out on a medal. She stood up and applauded the race. She never won an Olympic medal in her main event which she dominated.
@@chinezeolisah1308 naa, she was just devastated. In her subsequent interviews, she always praised Dawn and Sally and said they were the best that day.
I think Lolo was in 12.24-26 if she didn’t hit any hurdles during this race. Maybe even a wr threat I mean look at the surge and how far she would of been ahead of harper@ 12.34
Lolo didn't win but she was a machine until she hit that hurdle. Everybody else was jumping over the hurdles she was gliding over them. Watch it again I challenge you. It was art.
For people to know: It turned out Lolos back/hip was somehow broken. She didn´t have full control over her leg (the one that hit the hurdle). As a pro, she wouldn´t make such a rookie mistake. Her body was operated after this race.
Lolo jones despite her horrid start was on for an incredible time had she not hit the hurdle. If she had had Pearson's start and finished clean woud have been a world record for sure
@@powerfulcornelius3285 Yes.One important part of this kind of race is to go clean over the hurdles and not stumble upon them. She didnt do it so she didnt win. There is a winner but everybody talks about LoLo Jones. pathetic. The winner deserved to win since she managed the hurdles
@@elisabetpurve2908 Everyone talks about Lolo because despite her mistake she is clearly the fastest, if Usain Bolt tripped before the finish line people would still respect him and enjoy watching him compete
@@IneddiblehulkYeah but it was her race to win or lose. If she didn't hit the hurdle she would have won the gold. The hurdle is a very brutal event the same thing happen to Gail Devers in 1992 Barcelona Olympic she was on her way to win the gold and was on pace to break the world record but she hit the last hurdle.
@@marfu1119yeah but they didn’t - hurdles is about clearing the hurdles. If you lose cos you clip a hurdle you weren’t the best in the race. The point is to execute under pressure.
@@IneddiblehulkYeah, true but Dawn Harper was lucky to win gold that day she may have cleared all the hurdles and execute her race better than Lolo but everyone knows Lolo was in the better form in 2008. Besides Dawn Harper has never won anything else after that final just couple Silver and bronze. Dawn win in Beijing 2008 was just a fluke and a lucky win. Unfortunately, for Lolo don't think she ever got over that race in Beijing which was hers to win, her career faded after that race she let the pressure got to her. Think Lolo even went into acting saw her in a movie playing a flight attendant.
Ms. Jones should have gotten a better start and not have clipped the hurdle. The race was won by the three that ran good races. I love Ms. Jones, but she didn’t run well and lost.
Great job, Dawn Harper! Too bad the U.S. media only wanted to focus on Lolo the diva. (Wonder why?) Anyway, this race began an era of U.S. excellence in this event that's still ongoing, thanks to Dawn Harper.
Dawn is more beautiful than Lolo Jones. She has a beautiful smile and personality. She's not hot according to eurocentric beauty standards. She's married with a beautiful daughter and another on the way. She doesn't need to pimp herself out for attention. Dawn harper Nelson is the true champion and class act
What a rude comment. First of all, who cares how she looks? She's there to compete, not to model. Secondly, she's happily married so clearly her husband likes how she looks. Thirdly, to reduce a woman down to her looks is such a sexist thing to do. If have nothing nice to say just keep it to yourself.
Dawn you have a serious capacity to fool yourself bc you didn't shock the world, you got lucky Lolo tripped up. Lolo shocked the world by messing up & you won by default! Those are the facts.
It's called hurdles you chump. Dawn Harper cleared all her hurdles while Lolo jones failed to the same and that is why she lost. Ain't no luck. Put some respect on Dawn Harper name Chump.
