Try manual mode. Mine shifts to 6k every shift. Not 5700 in first and then 6k in second.

I can only get mine up to 5500rpm floored. If I put it in manual mode say I'm doing 45 what gear should I drop it to in order to get it to the redline before shifting? There are so many videos out there of the XC70 getting to the redline but I cannot get it even close. At 5500rpm it sounds like my engine is working so hard that I just let off the throttle. Lol.

@@MichaelXC70that’s just how engines sound when they’re working hard they’ll sound loud and pronounced when floored. At most you need to get to 6200 where max power is. If you’re going 40 mph drop it into first, should rev up enough to accelerate better.

@@MichaelXC70and naturally aspirated engines generally need to rev a bit before actually feeling like the vehicle is moving pretty good. Unlike turbo engines which make more low end torque. That’s why an F150 eco boost only has to rev to 5600 to move well compared to the 3.3 f150 which needs 6500-7k floored to move well.

@@charlesrodriguez7984 The transmission will not allow me to drop to first gear while driving 40mph. The lowest gear I can drop to is 3rd while driving 40mph so the transmission doesn't get ruined. Thanks for the info tho! 🙂

@@MichaelXC70weird. Mine will drop into second if I floor it at 40 mph. If I’m going less than that it’ll still stay in second gear. However in manual mode it should allow you to shift to 1st if you are going less than 40.

Try putting it in manual mode, the 3.2 should rev a lot higher

I wondered why mine short shifted first to second when wide open throttle

I've thought about trying that, but it makes my engine sound like it's working very very hard. Is this normal?

@@MichaelXC70 the 3.2 only makes 240hp, as a suction engine you have to rev the piss out of it since it makes peak HP at 6200rpm. Make sure your plugs are in good shape(and gapped correctly) and you're using 91 AKI otherwise the ECM down tunes ignition timing and thus HP and torque

@@B5244T3 Thanks, yes I'm well aware of the 235hp the 3.2 makes, it's just there are many videos out there (and also me driving another XC70) and when it's floored it goes right to 7k RPM. Just wondering why my doesn't. I drove the exact same car as mine and put it to the floor and it got to 7kRPM before shifting (every shift went to 7k). I suppose some engines are just more weak than others. Mine only has 70k miles on it and everything is like new under the hood. Just had new coil packs and plugs installed at a certified Volvo dealership, air filter is brand new, I only run 93 octane in my car kinda baffled to be honest lol. If I'm doing say 45mph, and I put it in manual mode what gear would you suggest dropping it to to kick it down and get the RPMs up to 6k? (P.s, sorry for the long comment lol)

@@MichaelXC70 What MY is your car? When I first got my 3.2 XC90 it would short shift at around 6k especially 1>2 but over time of driving it hard it would ring all the way to 6700 which is what VIDA states the fuel cut is set to. I have been able to over run the limiter at times and get it closer to 7 but never on the dot. I'm wondering if the adaptations just aren't tuned to sporty driving? I know with my V60 it took a good month of sporty driving to adapt it's shift behavior to my driving style.
