This is a simple fix for a issue with fords fusion, mercury millian, and Lincoln MKZ 2010-2012 with an automatic AC control unit. This is also a fix for 06-09
I owe you a beer! 2011 Fusion blower stopped last night here in Wisconsin. 9 degs this morning and no heater. 5 mins after watching your vid problem fixed (wiggled wiring harness). Great stuff my friend and THANK YOU!!
Thanks a lot for this video. It was quite helpful. I replaced the blower motor away, the blower motor resistor, and the resistor harness. I will note that I needed to also replace the blower motor connector/harness (WPT-1188). Folks should be sure to check that connector as well during their troubleshooting.
You just saved me a whole bunch of time...checked fuse good, checked relay good...hit you tube and happened to hit ur video first...reached up and wiggled stuff and now i have defrost tomorrow morning...will get it straightened out and fixed right...thanks!
Today it was 116° in PHX, the Ford fusion fan cutoff. I came home a watched this video helpful! Thank you for explaining about the wiring and connections, now the fans are working again. No more sauna seating in the car
I have an 07 fusion and my blower goes on and off and stays off. I had no idea where this stuff was. Checked my connector and it looks good. So probably the resistor and or the blower are the issue. Now I have to price them from Ford. Great video.
The pigtail NAPA/Autozone didn't have, so that's $60 from Ford -_- but the motor and resistor are much cheaper after market. Luckily I've caught mine before my resistor went out, so I'm doing the pigtail and motor today. Very, very helpful video, thank you.
Why would ford make a small connector that small that draws so much power it burns out..my ac went out when it was 90 degrees yesterday...i ordered the blower and connector..this video was very helpful ford should have recalled this ac problem...
When you change out this part, keep the old part, and only buy Ford part from the Ford house. Mine just went out again. It was from oriellys.. I didn’t replace the connector this time and just put the old ford part back on and it seems to be working like a dream. The connector may be the only thing you need to replace. But I’m really starting to think that the computer on mine is wack. I mean they placed it apparently right over the engine, so hot summers practically fry the computer. In the summer I unhook the both blend door actuators and hook them back up once fall hits. Just FYI
Connector pigtail is $40 at Walmart's online store, sometimes can find it on amazon for $38. Resistor is cheap, but went with motorcraft fan due to iffy reviews of other fans.
NOTE: I replaced all wiring, blower motor, resistor AND factory cabin air filter - worked for a while and now melted again. Some are saying a ground wire or two needs to be added in order to prevent this from happening again. I am currently searching for info on how to do this because I don't want to waste any more time/effort/money!
Spoke to a wiring guy ... he recommended against additional ground as it might mess with the control module. Recommended instead to buy a motor from Federated Auto (Four Seasons blower motor). If it fails before the year warranty is up, swap it out for a new one. Hate that I have to babysit this forever and ever now, but I don't want to do this repair ever again!
Thanks for the info. I changed out everything, but now the Max A/C won't work. Also, it's not blowing as hard as it was before I changed everything out.
thanks for the video. Trying to get the parts online but can only find the resistor. Service department quoted me $680.00 + tax for the fix, resistor and connector installed
Thanks a lot for the info, as a few others pointed out it’s pretty surprising this didn’t have a recall on it. Another very common issue I’ve noticed which I’m now dealing with is the led going out on the stereo portion of the front-center interface. I was wondering if you know any possible causes and/or solutions this problem as well? Thanks again for the help!
Thanks man really appreciate it! I just wiggled the cables from were you said the problem is and it sarted working again!! That part with the different colored cables wasn't burned tho you think it was just loose?
You can tell this guy has done this job before lol. Great video sir, thank you! I am on my 3rd time changing these parts. I will give you guys a tip, buy everything from Rockauto.com and you will thank yourself for the warranty they stand behind! They are awesome for all of us American's!
Did you smell a plastic burning smell, before this happend, on my car a 2010 fusion with the auto heat, every once in a while I will get a very strong smell like plastic burning but only last about 2 min, the goes away. Did yours do this?
This a continuing issue for my 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid… I have changed it multiple times from this video but why does it keep happening? How do i prevent it ? How could I stop this problem with changing it out everytime?
You aren't going to like my answer, to fix the problem you need the resistor connector, the resistor, and blower motor if you haven't replaced that. 90 for the resistor, 90 for the motor, 60 for the resistor connector from Autozone. Be sure to take photos of your resistor and connector plug so you get the correct one. There are different ones, so you don't get the wrong ones. The connector plug that you get from Autozone will have really long wires. So disconnect the one in your car and cut the wires just behind the factory connector. Leave about 3/8" of wire sticking out of the plug so you can match the wires up correctly. If you wire it wrong, you'll fry the resistor. I got male and female connectors from Walmart, crimped them onto the wires, that way if I have to replace again I can just disconnect them easily.
When I turn on the fan, nothing turns on until I turn it all the way to the last setting level 4. At that point, ac/heater works fine and air blows like it should. But level 1-3 the blower doesn't engage. What could be the problem? Thanks for your help! REPLY
Hi, I have ford fusion 2011 with dual climate control. my blower goes off sometime and then turns on . when it is running I try to run the blower on different speeds which it runs fine. I checked the connector at resistor and found out that middle connection is burnt. I ordered the motor and connector. do you think I need to replace the resistor as well? its 200 bucks for resistor.....
I dont know if this is a stupid question but when you cut the wire and u put the heat shrink connecting wrap....how is that done? Can someone direct me to a video of how its done?

I've thought I fixed this issue, I replaced resistor, blower motor, wiring harness plug into resistor, after approx 6 months it's doing the same thing again, I'm thinking now to maybe replacing wiring harness cause something must be drawing to much current to cause overheating
I DON'T THINK THE PROBLEM IS THE RESISTOR. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO WIGGLE THE CONNECTOR THAT IS PLUGGED INTO THE FAN BLOWER AND IT WOULD START BLOWING. THAT DOES NOT WORK NOW, COULD IT BE BENT PRONGS
Rich Licklider you can it’s super easy. All you do is squeeze the sides the glove box will drop out and a string will be attached. You just slide it back and let the glove box down a little more. It should come right out.
How do you get the resistor out without damage. I removed the screw and it seems like I need to pry a tab or something before the resistor comes out. I don't want to break anything and cause damage.
Thanks. I found them a week ago. There are 2 very flat black tabs that you can barely see and a very flat screwdriver is needed. Once I figured it out, it came out. Thanks for getting back.
You can find all these parts on amazon, and they will tell you ON THE AMAZON SITE before you buy it if its gonna fit your model car or not. I saved a ton of money getting all this stuff. Blower motor = $50, and resistor and connectors were $45 all together.....not ford parts either.....dont waste money fahm!🧰
