KawieRider yes sir, been running couple months now. Don't have anything but a potato phone so I haven't videod but been meaning too. Absolutely loving it and wish I would have done it sooner
man i dont know about you but it seems to me that the only way to shift these trucks to not have the engine lug is shifting above 2k rpms. if i wait and shift at 17-1800 it drops way to 12-1300rpm before i am in the next gear lol. back to this video again and still love.
Thanks. It wasn’t a kit, just something I threw together. Lots of good kits out there though and most all of them are fairly similar. Swap isn’t hard, just time consuming. Not nearly as bad as doing studs. I suggest mounting the turbo exhaust housing to the manifold then bolting up the manifold though as the housing bolts can be a pain once the manifold is mounted.
Man i just did an industrial injection kit with their 464 with efi single 80 horse tune, i get a spike in frp from say 7k to 14k and a dead spot in throttle(mechanic and industrial injection said it was normal turbo lag for a stock fuel truck) for a split second when my foot touches the skinny pedal. Doesnt matter if im driving and let my foot off the gas and back on or am shifting gears. Makes it near impossible to shift it without speed shifting it to make it drive normal. This doesn't look the case with yours which tells me i have a problem somewhere. Valair Dual disk clutch. Never did this before 2nd gen swap and new tunes.
I definitely don’t feel like I have a dead spot anywhere. There’s slight lag, but it’s not a dead spot, just a spot of slightly slower acceleration in low rpm’s. Try shifting at a higher rpm and see if it still has that same issue. I’m on a southbend dual disk.
@@beaustephenson4888 figured out the problem the day after i posted this reply. My mechanic didnt tighten a hose clamp on the intake. Was sucking air that wasnt accounted for via maf sensor. Tightened it down and all good now.
Ive got a g56 in mine (deleted truck) with stock clutch fr now. Looking to get a sb3250 w/hydraulics. Did you notice you were able to get quicker shifts over the dual mass flywheel setup(stock) or feel the same? Im having a hell of a time getting used to shifting 2-3-4 smoothly because the rpms drop so slow and feels like i have to granny shift. Drove plenty of 5.9/6.7 3rd gens that didnt seem like this. Anyway thanks in advance. And I really dig the whole 2nd gen setup you got goin.
It’s been so long ago since I did the clutch, I honestly can’t remember. I know i hated the stock clutch, but you’ll learn to have a love/hate with the southbend one too. Lol. They can be noisy.
They hover around 600-700 with typical driving. I’ve seen 1200 during prolonged acceleration. Spool is very similar to stock. 160k miles and the G56 has been rock solid. I put the southbend DD clutch in around 35k miles and surprisingly it’s still hanging in there too. No issues with the truck at all. Been solid.
hey man i'm looking into putting a s366 on my 2012 (vgt is sticking) and was wondering how you control your boost. I see you made around 37psi and that turbo didn't look gated to me. I'm fairly new to the turbo game and was just wondering. thx
Jon Storms, you're correct, no gate and I don't control the boost. The Edge CTS I have reads boost off the stock sensor and it's limited to seeing only 37lbs. It makes quite a bit more.
I know a few people running stock head bolts with aftermarket turbos and they've never had an issue, but if it were me, I'd definitely want the added piece of mind. Good luck!
Guessing 550. If I had an auto I would’ve went bigger on the turbo. At least a S467 if not S472. With the G56 though it’s hard to maintain boost between shifts.
Im talking with several different people now and they are all saying go with the 467. Really only things different between our trucks is I went Valair DD organic, fass 150 Titanium, and HPP Tuning. looking at basically same setup just having hard time choosing the right turbo. mostly a daily driver. no towing or hauling over 5klbs.
I have a borg 467.7 on my 12' g56 truck currently on stock fuel and love it. I pull up to 15k with it and it's awesome. 37's with 3.42 gears. Still pulls like hell. Wonder what 4.10 would feel like. Ha
No, the stock turbo has a different flange. You can get aftermarket exhaust brakes that will work with an aftermarket turbo and out perform the stock exhaust brake though. PacBrake and Fleece make good options.
Quick question. I have an 09 with 2nd gen swap s463 and have been drooling over swapping the 68rfe for the G56 for a very long time. I’ve just heard all the stories of the case flexing and shearing the gears. How has your experience with it been for the last 3 or 4 years? If you still own the truck of course.
I think the people flexing the cases and shearing parts are pushing over 1000hp. Mine has been absolutely solid. Not one single issue. I’m even still on the Southbend clutch I did years ago. Everything probably has 110k-120k on it all and I tow a 28ft enclosed with a car in it fairly often.
It's actually not bad at all. Spools just a hair slower than stock, but when it lights it hits really hard. If I had an auto, I would've went a lot bigger.
If you’re starting from a dead stop at lower rpm’s it can be pretty bad stomping on it. If you shift at 3-3.5k it’s a glaze maybe. Short shifting will produce more until the turbo gets spooled fully.
@@CORNYOTE who wrote you "calibrations" if you don't mind me asking. I have the same set up with Exergry 60% overs 10mmCP3 and a FIS464/83/.90 Billet wheel and my turbo does not light until about 2500 RPMs. I see yours comes up much sooner on stock fuel. I have checked everything, everything and thats all shes got. 2010 G56.
corey kinnamon with nozzles, I would've went 467 with the manual. With an auto and 90's I'd probably go even bigger. Maybe a 472. Are you an auto or manual?
KawieRider I've heard from reputable tuners that the single events are better for injectors because the plunger inside only moves once instead of 2-3 times. I'm curious to hear how they could be bad tho, since I'm considering it
KawieRider, did you save quite a bit of money building your own kit? Im looking to do the same thing, just not sure how to get the downpipe or intercooler piping to work. Ive read mixed things, and I have no fab equipment/skills.
KawieRider yeah It only has 10,000 miles on it but the Throw out bearing has to be replaced. It is sqeeking when I mash the peddle down. very anoying. u have a nice Truck man. enjoy it.
