Thank you so much for this video, you explained everything in such wonderful detail it made replacing my thermostat so easy. My husband was not sure how to approach the job but after watching your video a few times he did it and now my baby is back without spending hundreds to fix. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
This is the BEST video on how to do it god damn. Not even FCP euro video was that good I feel like theirs was more focused on the water pump. Thanks man this videos helped me tremendously
Thank you. Very easy job. I quick note from my experience: I broke two clips - one electrical on the first sensor I unplugged, and the other was the canterlever one on the air intake. I secured both of them with zip tie instead of replacing the sensor and clip assembly.
Thank you for making this very informative video. Thanks to you I was able to replace the thermostat and in turn clear the error code. You were a big help. Thanks again buddy!
This a good video. Simple explanations. It gave me the confidence to complete the repair myself. I got the code 21D2404 MAP thermostat line disconnected. I read somewhere to use distilled water if you are mixing your own anti-freeze. I buy the pre-mixed 50/50. For those concerned about the torque specs for the thermostat bolts...it is 7 to 8 ft/lbs. Thanks for telling us where to buy the part as well. @ESylver indeed. BMW dealer wanted 650 to do the job. My trustworthy mechanic quoted me about 440. I will save a lot of money thanks to this video.
Sergio Aguilera I’ve thought about it but kind of want to go stage 2 first than make a video lol but for sure when it starts getting nicer here in Chicago I’ll make the video
i appreciate your vid. sometimes you said "right there" but it wuld be helpful if you put your finger in front of the camera and touched the piece you are talking about (when possible). great vid, do more of them .
i think i have a leak in the o ring on the first hose you removed on the video .. i dont know if i have to bleed all the system in order to change it? .. great video man really thnx
Great video thanks... I had that same code come up and your video helped thanks. Also do you ever have “Drivetrain Malfuction” error come up? My 320 just came up :(
Thanks for the video. I have a question regarding the bleeder valves. Did you open them both or just the one? Then of course they are closed after the process is completed. Thank you.
Hello ! first of all thank you very much for the video. The explanations are perfect. I have a 116i F20 (N13) following the replacement of the temperature sensor and bleed I have pressure in the hoses and the vessel. Engine overheats and I have no heater in the car. Would the purge be badly done? (handling with the 15-second accelerator allows all the air to be purged?) Thank you ! ( your cold start is so good )
You let the car bleed itself like i did in the video. If you want just hold down the gas pedal till you hear the coolant start moving. or Maybe you didnt let the car do the process long enough
I successfully changed the sensor and thermostat this evening but I still have the check engine light on my dash and my gauge on my cluster panel isn’t working as well. Anybody help me out? Thank you.
Do you really need a battery charger ? It's gonna be additional cost if need to buy 1 just for changing the thermostat. Any other options? Can just bleed by unscrewing the bleeding screw near the spare tank? Thanks
It might have been but i didnt want to do all the extra stuff with the dealer. Plus i fixed it in like 2 hours. it wouldve been at the dealer for longer
Damn I got no check engine light but I’m sure it’s stuck open my 320i runs colder then normal and my engine fan kicks in on high cold starts how did you get a code for it any symptoms besides the codes
lol same. I bought my f30 three years ago now and it’s been amazing. I drive A LOT so I’m already at 120,000 miles and the only issue i’ve had with it has been this thermostat that just happened. I also highly recommend you change the transmission fluid if you haven’t already to keep that ZF 8 speed shifting smooth and lasting a long time. 👌🏼
Im about to make a year with mine and have 114k miles lol i drive alot also, part of my job. Ive been thinking about changing the trans fluid. Like that these cars are pretty reliable 🤙🏼
How many miles when the thermostat failed? Have you also replaced the water pump? Why did you not replaced both at the same time to avoid another work on just the pump later on?
The car had 100k miles. And to be totally honest the n20 is so easy to work on so its not like its a pain to get to the waterpump. Its not like n54/n55 which is annoying to do.
@@LuisGee Thank you for answering. The thermostat of my N20 also gave me alarm at 103K miles. I am debating replacing just the Thermostat and also replace the pump at the same time,
Hey man did you ever notice your temp needle go to 220/230 operating temperature and then when you stop at a red light for a minute or two see the temperature go down then back up after you start driving again?? Mine is doing that right now
@@zacharyburkhart6312 did you figure out why that's happening? Mine started doing that a few months ago. It's not overheating but getting warmer than usual just under 250 on highway. I changed the oil, new coolant. System is bled. Seen a slight improvement with new coolant but not sure what else it could be that would allow it to get hotter in eco and comfort on highway.
Thanks for the video, it really helps. One question is, did you take out the engine filter together with the intake housing? Also for others, I find this video overlaps with the first steps to take off intake hood: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--zXQhzqKiHQ.html
Hi. After opening the 2 valves (the one on the hose and the one on the coolant tank).... At which time do i have to close valves? After the whole bleeding process, or immediately after the venting? Would be so thankful if you could explain that 🙏
