2014 Impala P16CF Intake Rocker Arm Solenoid valve #2 control circuit

While on vacation our check engine light came on. This is the fix for the intake rocker arm solenoid valve # 2 control circuit. There are two major issues with this fix. 1st no one and I mean no one makes or stocks the part. I was lucky to find one setting on a shelf at a local Napa. But it was the only one I could find. None of the major part stores or online part stores had it available. The 2nd issue was a service bulletin I found that talked about components falling out of the old part. If they are missing you need to take the rocker cover off to find the pieces. Fortunately mine were still in place on the old part. I show the parts I'm talking about in the video. As always like, subscribe, and follow. Have a blessed day!

This worked on my 2015 Malibu! Thanks so much...everything under the hood looks the same and your video explained everything. My husband and I were able to do this and we are by no means mechanics. We had the code P16d0 Rocker Arm (1) stuck off. When we removed the rocker arm the pins were barely hanging in there...guess that's what the prob was. The check engine light went off after clearing the code and has not came back on...even runs better. We had been to 3 mechanics and none could help; they didn't even know how to fix it but doing research and watching your video saved us time and money. Chevy dealership didn't know and sent us to someone that didn't know then we found someone local but he wanted to do all kinds of repairs but still no guarantee that would fix it (would cost $1400). We found the part at Oreilly's for about $135. Thanks again!

Thanks for this wonderfully informative video. Like! Like! Like! My 2014 Impala just threw the P16CF code at a little over 40,000 miles, and your video steered me in the right direction to find the cause. I discovered the Chevrolet N192289160 Special Coverage Adjustment to address this issue (they actually sent me a letter about a year ago, but I had forgotten about it), and luckily the dealer fixed it at no charge. In my case, the rocker arm oil control valve had the "missing components" you are to check for, so the dealer had to not only replace it, but also take the extra steps of ordering and installing a replacement cam cover and two solenoid valves. "Cam cover" is a deceptively simple sounding part - this thing is an intricately molded aluminum part that looks much like the old cast iron intake manifolds of the 1970's. Unfortunately it has "Made in China" etched in big letters right on top. All was fine until about 2 days after I got the car back, at which time it started making a noticeable vibration noise while idling in gear. I noticed pretty severe vibration on the intake plenum on top of the engine (what GM strangely calls an "outlet duct"). Again I consulted your video, thinking the technician may have left off the grommets, but I took it apart, and the grommets were there. After putting it back together, vibrating noise still there, so this time I removed the engine cover. I didn't find anything amiss, but the vibration noise is gone after re-installing the engine cover - we'll see if it holds. One last thing: I'm amazed at your good humor while performing this job, even after dropping the screw into the engine compartment. That would have put me over the edge with a stream of profanities -- not sure how you do it 😊. Thanks again for the video!

@sugarstevie do you happen to know if your Impala was made in USA or Canada? I have the same vehicle and code P16CF/P16D0 and it's the same engine 2.5L LT LKW 4cyl, SIDI, VVT, But GM says my VIN doesn't have this special coverage. My VIN starts with a 2 which signifies Canadian made. I'm trying to figure out why my car doesn't qualify for coverage. Under the 120k miles and nearing the 10 year mark.
@Bubba-Tex

@@itsdizzleyall I just checked and my VIN starts with a "1". I live in the USA, so I assume my Impala was made in the USA. That's unfortunate if they are excluding Canadian-built vehicles. Hope this helps. Good luck!

@BubbaTex thank you so much for the reply! Yeah I'm in Cali myself. Bought the Impala used in 2018. Apparently these models were made in 2 different factories. I'm just wondering if the solenoid made in Canada doesn't qualify under this special coverage and only the US made one's? Weird because I have all the same codes and issues but GM doesn't have my vin listed for coverage.

victorgoofy From my experience I would pay the 500 since the ones I saw on eBay at the time also provide the seal. The part does not come with a seal. Trust me, once those two rings on top bust the car will leak all oil and it will damage the motor. I suggest trading the car in or paying the 500. In the end when it does explode you will pay more.

Im asking because I had to replace the same part in just one month Can you please tell me what I would “look” for if this was the case and the little pieces had come out? It is way beyond looking at the first part that was changed. That went in the trash over a month ago Would there be any telltale signs that this is what might have happened? They were present when The second part was taken out. Could this cause the part to fail again after such a short time? I had no issues at all after it was changed the first time

I'm getting oil leaking from what appears to be this part. It's coming from the rear topside of the engine. I've had a very very slow leak somewhere and I only realized I had an oil leak after smelling burnt oil that was ending up on my exhaust system. Oil is coating everything on the back of the engine to the very bottom of the oil pan. It appears that the oil is coming from this part or somewhere very close to it. I replaced the PCV valves and hose and it didn't fix it. Is oil leaking a common issue for this?
