I like this car, Tweety looks great. I've owned my 2011 Smart diesel for 11 years and it's brilliant. Over here we lack charging facilities so I'm going to stick with my diesel model

Thanks for the review. I have the same model. Used, just like yours and have had it about 3 months. I have had a different experiece than you. My work is about 20 miles away and I have found the Smart actually does bettter with energy consumption on the highway than it does in town, I can be half way to work before I'm at 80 percent but that same amount will be hit in 6 miles or so if I'm in town. I always charge my vehicle no matter the percentage. Since the range is limited, I never know when I'm going to need give a friend a lift, head out for dinner at a moments notice, or whatever. It takes about a hour to recharge at works 220V chargers. The longest it ever took was a little under 3 hours with 40% SOC remaining. Regardless of ones experiences though, they sure are fun!

Thanks Perry for the comment. I do love the Smart ED. I had no idea how much fun it would be when I purchased it.

-30c starts no problem. Heated seats and heater heats up fast. Better then my 2019 Dodge Ram

Am I the only one who didn’t expect the smart car to be strapping tiny heat 😱

Thx for the review. Long review though. Looks like those rear holes in he bumper are vents for heat from the batteries. Do you know if these batteries are liquid cooled or air cooled? Also what is the difference with a 2016 Smartfortwo EV and the one you have. I am thinking of getting one.

Thanks for the comment. I believe there is a liquid cooling setup. I noticed when I'm charging and it's warm, the coolant in the reservoir is cycling. Leading me to believe it's circulating through some cooling component.

Remember, don't leave in a Smart Car without proper protection 🔫!

Pretty pathetic one needs to dress for weather and not enjoy ac or heat. I'd like one but just doesn't work. My commute is 40mls rt. +/-. Well 19mls one way. Anywhere between 35 to 55mph on secondary roads. Nice review....

Are there different levels of regen using the paddle shifters? More aggressive deceleration with each click?

That is correct.

My 2013 will just die. No dash lights or nothing. I pulled the 12 volt positive cable and touched it to the battery three time. Wallah car is working again. It has done this on three different occasions. At 40,000 miles I just put in a wallmart $60 12 volt battery.

Hi i have a real important problem with my 2015 Smart electric drive 451 im in los angeles and due to the lockdown I cant drive anywhere and the 12volt car battery is losing its charge! and I cant charge the HV battery because its at 100% and i cant drive anywhere to lower the hv battery any ideas on how i can charge up the 12 v battery and keep it charged?? HELP thanks

The Smart technician that I work with told me that if I wasn't going to drive it for a few weeks, leave it plugged in. The charger will act as a tender and keep the HV battery as healthy as it can.

Do you still have this car? Stock battery?

I do! It is the stock battery.

How can you tell which smart cars have Tesla batteries in them? I just purchased a 2014, and it has a " hv system workshop " displayed in the cluster and an exclamation point in a triangle plus a battery light. It did drive perfect though. Have you ever seen that fault in your years of ownership? Joe

How is it in the winter or do you store it?
@ianhoc4

If the roads are clear and the temp is above 15 or so, Ill drive it short distances. Any snow on the ground, it gets parked up and plugged in after a week or two of sitting. It's hilariously bad in snow. The short wheelbase and RWD make for an interesting experience.

@@ianhoc4 ...I have to disagree... it is amazingly good with most of the weight on the rear driving wheels! The only somewhat limiting factor is the low ground clearance... however it does plow right through fairly deep snow, as long as you don’t hit built up ice. Of course I have snow tires installed! Up here in Canada 🇨🇦 I drive it throughout the winter in temperatures as low as minus -30* C (-22 F). Always use the excellent heater set at 20* C (room-temperature). If needed I charge in my driveway overnight and it is fully charged in the morning. 🙂

Of course I use the excellent seat heaters! 🙂

@@mikedelphine1216 I'm also from Canada, and I was wondering how it performs during the winter! Thanks for your comment! For some reason, I still feel like I might regret buying a Smart Fortwo EV. There is one available at a dealership; that 2014 model is listed for $8,000+ taxes with close to 60,000 km on it. I don't know if that's a fair deal though.

@@HasanKhanArt …Yes, $8K is a fair price, if it hasn’t been abused… Remember, there are not many Electric Drive SMART Cars available, plus the 2014 Models are the fastest at 0 - 60 km/h acceleration in less than 3 seconds‼️ I have never owned any other City Car that was as much fun to drive! 😁😛. One thing you have to be aware of on this 7 year (!) old EV, it is quite temperature sensitive!… You get the best range in temperatures between 15*C to 25*C when driving near 100% Eco and accelerate/drive in the first 25% power range. Doing this I still get up to 150 km range. Extreme cold temperatures of minus -25*C to -40*C will reduce your range to as low as 80 km ! …After all the Battery🔋technology is almost 10 years old! In the last 3 years these high voltage Batteries have greatly improved‼️ I can’t wait to see the new SMART EV coming from GEELY, China. I’m sure they will have all the old shortcomings solved and the Range will be at least 250 km !😛😁

Mercedes must really want you to destroy the battery quickly so they can sell you a new one. Letting the car go below 10% and then charge above 80% is the worst you can do to a cars batterypack.
