Extra note --- be careful with the windshield washer tubing that sits behind the passenger side hood strut ball .... even if you place it behind the ball, the line may become pinched against strut when hood is closed, and you'll lose fluid flow to your front window. How do I know this? Guess...
Firesource51 I found that the strut towards the front pushes on the windshield washer tubing and pinched it down. I noticed this when I tried using the windshield washers and no water came out. Every time the hood closes the windshield washer tubing gets crushed. On the top towards the front. Anyone had this issue and able to fix it??
@@jasemuzz Just did the install, hope this is not too late. The forward part of the strut pinches the washer fluid tube. I moved the one forward pin and placed it away from the strut. No problems since.
+Robert Kohut Agreed! At a minimum, they should at least come on the Premium. Or, they could just make them an optional item...I would want it. I added struts to my 2011 GT and they just seem like they should have always been there.
The simple answer is they know people will pay extra for upspec parts. Tbh I am appalled at ford for their materials choice and lack of rudimentary parts on the mustang, here in the UK a mach 1 is about $20k more than in the States, and no option packs other than an alloy wheel change. yes I'm considering one as I've wanted one since childhood and big bruiser V8's are on the endangered species list, but I have a niggling voice in the back of my head continually pointing things that I have and still come as standard on premium brands with a similar price tag.
@@Sly_Wolf_1 , they could have omitted the rod and put a length of 1x2 in the trunk. For what we're paying for a GT Premium, at least given us the option to have a set installed as part of the dealer prep.
First off - Bill's installation video was a great aid - and part fo the reason I purchased this Ford Performance Hood Strut Kit from CJ Pony Parts. Total install time 40 min. FYI, the instructions included in the box call for a 6mm Allen wrench or socket, vs. the 1/4" suggested in the tool list. 6mm was the proper fit. Also suggest snipping the area between the 1" hole drilled to accommodate the passenger side lower bracket and the side of the battery cover, or else getting to the battery afterwards will be very awkward. Looks good!
I do this really good and fast thanks buddy for the video and the parts I have this setup from you and they have really good quality I recommend this product to anyone who have a mustang this is super easy and fast to install BACK ON THE ROAD IN NO TIME 👍👍
Best vids as always - gave me the confidence to install my first M-GT mod! I reversed the 2 pin plug to go in the opposite side (so same side as you guys, but technically the passenger side on a UK model) is this still correct?
On the 2021 Mach 1 you will need to move the window washer tube away from the factory location on the passenger side or the fender strut mount will crush the tube.
Great video. Just don't drop the upper bracket deep into the inner fenderwell like I did. Luckily I fished it out with a magnet. Getting old and butterfingers are the normal now.
Hi, I have a installed these hood struts on my 2019 mustang GT a week ago. I see some people are having issues like me with the passenger side struts crushing the windshield wiper line. Is there a way to fix this ?
Easy to install. I do have one that is defective though. The strut makes a lot of noise and doesn't have the lift power of the driver side one. No response from CJ yet on getting it replaced.
And thats on 'Value Engineering' They saved probably $5/unit by not including those and then turn around and sell them as 'Licensed Accessories' to the enthusiast market.
About to do this installation and I was just curious, when installing the bracket that goes under the battery cover, why must the retaing piece go side to side and not front to back? Does it really matter? If so why?
Would be great to do an update for a 2019 GT, as the install manual has changed for the window washer tubing as many are getting pinched by the strut when closing.....any chance of an update Bill....
The fender mounting bolts turn when I close the hood. I can’t get them tight enough and when I try to torque them to 20 foot pounds the brackets move. Is that suppose to happen? It looks perfect when Bill does it.
Had the same issue - these little blocks were a bit skewy in a bad direction and were moving. I’ve bought bigger and thicker ones in some shop with parts for building vents systems and now I have it still at 20. BTW did you use screw washers with teets from a set?
I think this is why they haven't included these struts from the factory yet. They didn't want to make a change to the battery cover. Having to remove a strut to access the battery is a brutal design flaw. For this reason alone I wouldn't remove the stick.
Started to install per the video and instructions but as I started to attach the strut on the passenger side I could not see how to remove the battery cover with only a hole. Once the strut is attached it seems like the battery cover will not come off unless the struct is removed. So I cut a slot from the edge of the cover to the 1 inch hole. This allows me to remove the cover having to remove the strut. Maybe I missed something but it sure seems like with just a hole the battery cover is more difficult to remove. Very happy not having to lift the hood.
I'm curious. I've read in a few forums that the Aluminum hood on the Mustang can easily bend when using hood struts. I'm not going to name the brand. Are these Ford struts strong at the top of the stroke that its possible to bend your hood when pulling down??
Got my pair yesterday and going through the instructions and it looks like the retaining clip with the lock washer, two retaining clips and star washer go on the driver's side and not the passenger like in the video (i.e. battery side).
Just put mine on also , same directions. Took star washer off to get it to go inside fender. Don't understand why one side needs it and another not. If it works loose, i'll add some to them later. Also had to notch out the battery cover hole on front more to get it to lay down right with a dremel.
Yes, just watch the washer fluid tube as it could get crushed near the forward retainer clip. Need to route the tube away from the raised area where the clip is.
Bill, are most of the parts for your mods from CJ Pony Parts? I guess I've over looked that "minor bit" as I get involved in your descriptions. Thanks, Gary.
+TheBlaze489 No but we do carry hood struts that will www.cjponyparts.com/redline-tuning-hood-strut-kit-quicklift-plus-bolt-in-gt350-gt350r-2015-2016/p/HDGL30/ and you can view the installation video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TaEL16MkN8c.html
+CJ Pony Parts I know about those, but I would love for them to say for performance just to match everything else. Could I just buy the redline mounts, then just buy the ford racing hood strut, or do they connect differently? If not I will just wait for a ford performance one to come out.
@CJ Pony Parts the socket head allen screw holding the brackets to the fender4 started to rust up on me, do you think I'll be able to remove the bottom brackets easily to paint/replace the screws? Have you removed these? Just wanted to ask before I tried anyting
My only worry with hood struts is if you are outside and it is windy, will they hold up being that the Mustang hoods are very heavy and looks like the attachment points would be a breaking/bending point. I heard from others that these suck and do not last long.
This install is wrong. The bracket with the retaining clips goes on the drivers side not passenger per ford instructions, the wiper fluid clip gets pinched putting it behind the other pin. Read ford instructions because this almost caused me to bend my fender having them installed incorrectly. I see lots of comments saying they turn, they turn when installed like the video, swap them like ford instructions and no turning.
I always thought it was cheesy to spend $50,000 on a car that you basically had to hold the hood up with a stick. C'mon, Ford, quit being so cheap. I installed the struts on both my 2018 V6 coupe and my 2019 GT Premium.
So you have to remove the strut on the passenger side in order to remove the battery cover to install a new battery or jump the existing battery????????? #engineering fail!
Great video but turn off the music when the presenter is speaking. The music was louder than the presenter's voice. We watch for the demo, not for the music.
