I noticed you didn't use the manufactured lines on the swing arm when determining the tension and alignment of the chain, curious as to why. It's been my go to. Thanks again V-Strom Garage.
Thanks, I'm glad it helped. I usually use a chain alignment tool to get it a little more exact than the lines on the swingarm, but the lines are close enough.

gday. i went down 1 tooth on counter sprocket. love this gearing. dont really travel faster then 150km/h so it suits my riding. nice n snappy. havent had a chance to see the top speed with new sprocket ratios. enjoying your vstrom videos, good clear detail👍 i noticed your rear axle nut is on opposite side to mine
Thanks for the vidy. I followed the instructions for your last one on cleaning the drive sprocket of gunk. Super helpful. I'd add an extra step between pnumatic shop tools and hand file for taking out a link--Dremel rotary tool using the EZ - Lock cutting disks.
you seem to eyeball chain tension... I've seen others say while suspended on center stand (not stands like you are using) you go for 1.5 to 1.75 slack. that seem right to you?
with it on the side stand or paddock stand, I start with 1.5" slack. Sit on the bike and have someone check that there's still slack in the chain. On mine if I set it to spec at 1.25" and I sit on the bike, the chain is way too tight. If you leave it tight, over time it will wear out the bearing on the output shaft, and you will have to split the cases to replace it.
I did not follow your instructions, since I’m following this video after the fact, and now I have no clutch. You said the plate moves. How does one go about fixing this?
Sometimes you can open the oil filler cap and see the plate on the clutch basket that is rotated and move it back in the groove with a screwdriver. Just be careful of what you are prying on. Worst case you would have to remove the clutch cover to get to it. The other thing is to make sure your slave cylinder went on straight and all the way seated.
I believe my gear shift sensor on my 2014 V-Strom 1000 might be bad as my gear indicator number will change or go blank without shifting. My internet research has not been very helpful. Do you know where the gear shift sensor is located and how big of a job it is to replace it? Thanks in advance.
The Gear position switch is located behind the clutch basket, not a big job, but you will need to get the gasket for the clutch cover. I'm trying to remember if someone said they just took it out and cleaned it and it started working again. If I come across it I will let you know.
Why did the chain/sprockets need to be changed? My 2014 VEE has 13k. One of my links is a little stiff and I've been keeping an eye on it. So, I'm curious the reasoning behind the change.
@@VStromGarage Thank you for the video. I have a 2019 VStrom 1000XT with 27,000 miles on the original chain and sprockets. The chain and rear sprocket look great, but I’m changing them prior to summer. I don’t know if they wear gradually or just go bad quickly, so better safe than sorry. I was glad you showed the parts you used. The OEM sprocket and chain are nearly $500 on Partzilla. The JT sprockets and chain you used are around $200! I believe the RK chain is the same as the OEM chain. Thank you again for the detail in the video. Also I have found several sources that say 120 links. I will count to make sure.
@@vtrack1963doing mine now at 33k miles. Fyi the OEM kit can be found for around $200ish as well around the internet. Going to be slightly higher than aftermarket once shipping is factored in but if you want to stick to OEM quality it's not too much more. Seems to be out of stock in the main places but had no problems finding it further down the search chain.
