2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Review: Curbed with Craig Cole

After a week of testing the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe we've learned this three-row offering does just about everything with poise and confidence, offering comely exterior styling, a well-thought-out cabin, generous cargo capacity and even some great-driver assistance technology. It matches up with vehicles like the Mazda CX-9, Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder. Overall, it is slightly shorter than these products but thanks to shrewd engineering it offers a touch more storage space, up to 80 cubic feet with everything folded flat.

I've reviewed a couple hundred cars now and I actually just bought one of these... Consumer Reports gave it great ratings as well... In the end, awesome review Craig! 👍

I love mine. I bought it in October and I'm already over 16000 miles. No problems so far. I disagree with the disinterested driving feel. I usually drive about 85mph wherever I go for work. My only gripe is the gas mileage. I have never gotten over 19 mpg even when driving moderately. It's my work car mostly. Bu t I don't carry a lot of weight usually.

Nice review. I've scoured the IIHS website. I don't think there is any vehicle that can match the Santa Fe's overall safety rating. It gets the highest score in everything except child seat anchors, where it gets the second highest score. I haven't seen any vehicle get the highest score in child seat anchors. Additionally, the Santa Fe scores at, or near, the top of the JD Powers and Consumer Reports various ratings. While the fully loaded model is expensive, it isn't expensive when you compare it to a fully loaded Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot. The second row captain's chairs vault the Santa Fe (imho) over it's little sister the Kia Sorento. 5000lbs towing capacity, all the electronic safety features, near luxury car ride, quiet cabin, mega-spectacular-super-huge panoramic moonroof, heated/cooled seats etc. etc. etc. For the money I haven't found anything better, and I have been looking. The only place the Santa Fe falls short is on gas mileage, but all of these 3 row SUVs get craptastic gas mileage. Going by average use per year, you will spend about $110 more in gas over the "more fuel efficient Mazda CX9 over the course of a year. That is basically nothing. Compare the Santa Fe to the HYBRID Highlander over the course of a year... $240 difference according to Consumer Reports. I've test driven most of the 2 and 3 row crossovers. The Santa Fe is smoother than most, and it still drives like a car, not a truck. Want ventilated seats in your Audi Q7? Get ready to pay nearly double on what you would pay for the Santa Fe. Go by the numbers and this SUV has one weakness... low mpg. Drive it and you won't be disappointed. I'll most likely buy one soon. Almost forgot, it has the best warranty of any vehicle on the road.

Hate to tell this but the Sorento gets higher ratings by most reviewers in most facets than the Santa Fe. The Santa Fe is a good vehicle (I strongly considered buying one) but to call the Sorento it's "little sister" is silly. But to each their own.

I call it, Honda and Toyota better start watching out! We almost bought one of these till we decided the minivan was the best way for our growing family to go and picked up a loaded Toyota Sienna.

1:29 Why is the left folded seat so crooked? Does it just randomly not fold flat? BTW, lousy mileage and absolutely nutty price.

I don't think the third-row seat was latched down all the way... I never recall it doing that in the half-dozen times I folded it flat during the shoot.

I rented one of these me and family begged for something different. The interior is nice "looking" but take a touch and it's Clear that Fisher price plastic built this, it's cheap to the touch and thin plasticy feeling ( look at doors ) fake plastic " wood trip " ain't fooling nobody so I'd worry about long term durability. Engine may still run but everything else is gonna fall apart like old GM products.
