One of the best bikes in the planet

I have now had this new 2017 Ninja 1000 (Green) for 4 months and completed just over 2200 Km, very impressed with the bike so far, looks to have great build quality, very comfortable for my 52 year old 178 cm body, very easy to ride and I was surprised at just how much power and torque this bike made out on the road, although the bike has the best gear box I have ever used, just stick in a gear and roll on and off the throttle. The adjustable screen is great and I find middle position best for all occasions, great to have the back-up of all the electronics including ABS, traction control, power modes etc all of which work behind the seen's and go unnoticed. Would have preferred cruise control but this really has not been a issue as with the light throttle and upright riding position taking a lot of strain off your wrists, hands, back and neck compared to my previous two bikes which were both Honda Blackbirds. I intend to purchase the panniers in the near future. Only one small issue is the low gearing and small amount vibes above about 6000 RPM, after I have done a little more research I may look at replacing the front sprocket with an extra tooth to lower the RPM when highway cruising. Very happy with my purchase and great all rounder.

Riders Domain, My Father had the 3 cillendar Kawasaki back in 1973 and my bike was a Yamaha 175DT, to ride with him was a start for a future of riding, slow start. He once told me I'd never have a license to operate a motorcycle, but this year got one(completely legal on road). I enjoy it emencely. Just keep aware or you'll whind up like some younger one's that think "it won't happen to me". Motorcycle Deaths are not as rare as it use to be here on my Olympic Peninsula.

thr most honest z1000sx review... bought one aftr watching this video... u people have taken the pain to mount cameras at diff places to give a more clear idea about functioning of shock absorbers, frame vibrations, etc.. keep it up

Great Review!! What a gorgeous machine. I used to sport-tour on my ZX9-R. I loved it. I now have the '05 ZRX1200, and I love it as well. I think that I should make room for another Kawi in my garage.

i bought one of these two weeks ago. This is my second one and I think that they are a great all around bike. The smoothness and torque are amazing, looks good too and is reliable.

One of the biggest downers about this bike I discovered just recently is the fact it puts out pathetic amounts of electrical power for accessories. 336watts. That's lower than the gen-1 FZ1 that everyone complained of running out of power for heated stuff and electrical gadgets, since it was a "sport TOURING" bike. Yamaha upgraded from mid 300's wattage to 560 watts on the 2006 gen-2. Yet unless you buy the Versys1000, anywhere this engine (and it's smaller 948cc derivative) is found, you'll have 336 watts. Z1000, Ninja 1000, Z900. I've checked the part numbers for the rotor and stator on parts fish (dot) com to verify, also Rider Magazine publishes the charging wattage for bikes often times. Think this isn't a big deal? Consider the rather mundane street bike like the Triumph Street Twin 900 is cranking out a boatload of power to the tune of 660 watts at a mere 3,000 rpm! Kawasaki has made a great machine in the 2017 Ninja 1000. Trouble is, it has some serious flaws that have prevented me from buying. Needs better gear ratios, needs a high output stator, and it could use a bit more power without any trouble considering it is 1,043cc. Reduction in vibration would also be welcomed. In the future I hope Kawasaki revamps the frame on this bike to match the light-weight functional trellis units that it's put on the Z900/RS, H2, Z650. Would knock a nice chunk of weight off this sport touring bike and it's not new design territory for Kawasaki. I'd probably go the DL1000 route instead of this, opting for more comfort, even though the V-Strom makes a big part less power. It cranks out meatier torque everywhere below 6,000 and would run the off-pavement scenarios far better.

Ninja 1000 ABS and Versys 1000 seem quite similar. One leans harder sport. The other leans harder tourer. I own the Versys and it has enough of the thrills (for me) to go with the comfort.

Could you do a comparison between the Ninja 1000 and the Suzuki GSXS1000F? The Suzuki seems to be its main competition in that price range.

I've always liked the Ninja 1000 since it first came out in 2011. Demo rode afew of them back then, but for riding 2UP with my GF, it wasnt good for us. And to all those folks that are pissy about cruise control.... * use what I have been using on my 650R for many years. And it only costed me $20. The GO-CRUIZE Throttle control. There is a slight learning curve to get it set just right with practice, but man for $20 you cant go wrong! :)

Another great review. I like how you break things down for us viewers and potential buyers. this is a really nice bike and I took a serious look at it. At the time I was all over the map and was looking at the new Yamaha Venture, this bike and a couple others. At the end of the day, this bike came in a very close second to the bike I ultimately chose, and there were very specific reasons why the winner won! Fit was one key factor. I am a bigger guy and though I did fit on this bike, it was close and I was not as comfortable as I needed to be. But that is no fault of the bike. Performance, styling, features - this bike is a pretty complete package. This new iteration of the Ninja 1000 is a hit and I bet I will be seeing them on the road. In fact I saw one just this morning!

I might be between this and the Z900RS. I had a 14 N1K, liked it alot. Just rode a Z900RS Cafe and really liked it a lot.

Here in India it is half the price of zx10r..

Lots of practical info in this review that you can't get from reading a spec sheet. Really enjoyed it, mate. I've heard some insurers charge as much to insure this as they do a zx10r, as they can't tell the difference *eye roll*. Hope that's not the case. Doesn't seem to be heaps of power from this bike, only a bit more than for example the gsxs750, but you will get shitloads more torque. Not enough sports tourers on the market these days that aren't tall and upright! Viva la Ninja

I ride adventure bikes. I'm very interested in a z1000sx for an every day bike. Because I don't ride on dirt when I commute. One question, is the z1000sx capable of climbing sidewalks? That's because, for me, a big part of using a bike for commuting is parking on sidewalks and never have to look for parking space... But I'm afraid a pure street bike doesn't have the ground clearance do do so.

Wonder if they're coming out with something would be between the C14 and this, if there could be such a thing. You can get a 19 N1K for $8999. That's hard to beat when folks are selling several year old N1K's for $8-9k. Nuts. I have seen one of these with a nice passenger backrest/topcase.

Cruise control would be great. Except it's not as easy as a few 1's and 0's of programming code in the ECU as many people seem to think. It involves all the mechanical and electrical bits of a throttle-by-wire which it doesn't yet have. It also requires lots and lots of R&D, tuning, peer reviewed testing, more R&D, and departmental approval due to the "safety" related risks of having a cruise module that HAS to function properly. There are legal implications with a device of that nature as well. It's not easy or cheap. Possible, but not as easy as many think. Funny that European manufacturers put cruise on superbikes that have zero touring built into them. But when you've already got throttle-by-wire, you're a long way there.

Very nice review. I like how Kawi has modded the N1K during its lifetime but I can do w/out a lot of the extra bells and whistles. I like the simplicity of the original N1K and lack of electronic aids. To that point- I have a really nicely modded '11 N1K and frankly, I wouldn't trade it for just about anything at this point, even the '17. I wish ABS had been avaialable at that time (it wasn't) & I think the new hard bags are awesome but not a deal breaker. Buy yourself a set of Blaze saddlebags and blammo, instant ST. My advice- Find yourself a nice, low mileage used or leftover 11-16 w/bags for much less than you'll spend on the '17 and mod away. I promise you won't be disappointed. And don't fret over the supposed vibe issues w/the N1K; my '11 is as smooth as glass, perhaps one of the smoothest bikes I've ever owned, & I've been riding for 40+ years. The N1K is, in my humble opinion, possibly the best multi-purpose bike I've ever owned.

Where were riding during this video? I just picked up my ninja 1000 abs three weeks ago with hardcases . Dont regret it at all just what I wanted. Only gripe is its little bit of a pain to do chain cleaning/lubing with the huge exhaust in the way but I'll get use to it.

I'm 5'7 height...will I be comfortable with a ninja 1000?

Have to laugh at your "old man" knees! I somehow that that the Ninja 900 was supposed to replace the 800 & 1000--?

I used to own a 2011 FZ1. Stock condition it also buzzed quite a lot in the pegs, seat, and bars. Honestly would not have thought of taking a serious trip on it due to the buzz. Put a full R77 Yoshi system on it. Got the ECU flashed to get rid of all the restrictions. Loaded a well developed PC5 tune. K&N. Airbox hack. Power went from 129 to 150. The thing that struck me the most was how the felt vibration dropped a solid 80%. I transformed the feel of the bike. Makes me wonder if the buzz has something to do with the emissions compliant exhaust system with the servo flapper and cat. Or if the stock condition of throttle body synchronization isn't very optimal. Decent enough review. However he is talking some real shit about the vibrations etc. I own a 2018 one. And i have put alot of miles on it. I feel no vibrations at all from handlebars or foot pegs. The bike is honestly the best bike out ever. Also 122bhp??.. Nah thats wrong. Mine has 140BHP. Even down on my Insurance Certificate. Kawasaki Z1000sx 140hp ABS 1043cc.. Get your facts right before you decide to make a motorcycle review..
