I just bought a 2018 Corolla SE. Its my third one after owning a 2006, 2015 and upgraded to a 2018 model. I have never had problems with either car. They all have been reliable and easy to maintain. The 2018 model comes with all the latest tech like radar cruise control, lane departure warning, etc. Corolla is still the number one selling car in the world after 54 years in production. You still see many older Corollas on the road than any other car. This car will take you to wherever life takes you, safely and reliably for many years.

I just bought a 2017 SE. It was a lifestyle change for me. I got tired of bad mileage SUVs and high payments. Dumped the Cherokee Trailhawk for a $200 month payment. Overall the CVT is t that bad. Never been a fan of CVTs but this works well. Been averaging 34-35MPG combined. Much better than 18 in my Cherokee. Sport mode adds a titch of fun. In a few years my daughter will be 17. This will be her car. We have already practiced a few times and she loves it. I have a 4 year old boy. Wonder if this Corolla can last another 13 plus years for him? We will see. Overall it's a good buy. It's basically bulletproof and will last for almost forever.

Corollas have never been about excitement so don't look for that in it. What they do offer is good comfort, economy, and great reliability. It is an appliance. No one makes any bones about it not being an appliance. The thing is though, it is a really good appliance.

I've owned four toyota products in my lifetime. All of the current ones are reliable, but not exciting. However, I rented a 2017 within the past two months. While driving a safe distance (at least five car lengths) behind another car, a beautiful Porsche Panemera, was passing me. A split second after I turned to look at it, the Corolla immediately decelerated as if I'd hit the brakes. Turn to look forward, the car is front had slammed on his brakes and the Toyota responded. I thought reliable, boring, but I'd definitely put it at the top of my list. This is from a person who walked away from a serious car accident a few months ago, when a lady turned into the path of my '1999 Toyota Solara'. Airbags and seat belt worked. Yes, 18 year old Toyota airbags and seat belts, saved my life.

Nice video TFL! I am not entirely fond of the new Corolla's front end, but it will probably grow on me as I see the vehicle more often. The Corolla is really trying to keep up with its competitors. Personally, I prefer the styling of the Civic and the Elantra over his vehicle. This vehicle sells well though for a reason, it is reliable, has a good resale value, and is just an overall well rounded car. Keep up the great work TFL! -DriveAndBeDriven

I agree with u, 100%, I love hwo they have a xse package now but I wish they could either put a hybrid setup for it, or have the 2.5liter 174hp engine as a uograde
@DriveAndBeDriven
@DriveAndBeDriven 8 лет назад
Toyota should totally add a more powerful 2.5 liter engine or even a 2 liter turbo to the Corolla line-up. The Hybrid might sell well if they choice to do that, but they have the Prius. Which can sort of be cross shopped with the more fuel efficient offerings in the class. Thanks for commenting Sartaj Aujla! -DriveAndBeDriven

That engine isn't powerful but it will never die. I miss the old high revving 2zz celica motor... fun fact you can get this car in a six speed manual. Love that the corolla has a more edgy aggressive look now. My ONLY issue with the corolla is that ride height is too high.. too much wheel gap. It will look great lowered.

I've worked recently for a car company that transfers all type of cars. One of the things I get to do is deliver cars to different franchises. The 2017 Corolla has become one of my personal favorites to drive. No, not because it is sporty or blistering fast. It has been very quiet of late and feels like a miniature Lexus. I like it because of the new safety features. While transferring one recently with cruise on, another car cut in front of me, while I was distracted by a crazy driver flying past me on my left. The car instantly braked on its own, which of course snapped me to attention. I thought the engine had shut down, but quickly realized when the guy who cut in front of me sped up, that the car had just saved me from an accident. Having blind spot monitoring, I use to think was just a gimmick too, but as an older driver, it helps me spot upcoming cars faster than I can, thus causing me to not have to turn so far, to see what's over my shoulder. My next personal vehicle, will not be without those features. I was amazed when I research the vehicle to have these features were standard. Other higher price cars charge you for them and some won't let you get them until you have their top of the line trim level. Allright, Toyota.

On March 15th I purchased a 2017 Toyota Corolla SE in Falcon Grey. I love the car, especially all the tech. The radar-guided cruise control is amazing and it’s one of my favorite features of the car. The lane keeps assist is very helpful. Overall I love the car. What I don’t like is that the steering feels stiff. The lane departure warning constantly wants to correct my steering input. I am glad that they add the disable button. The fuel tank is 2 small at 13.2 gallons. I get about 345 miles on one tank. I use the car to commute from my home to Austin for work. I drive approximately 32 miles one way. However, the plus side is it doesn’t call cost a fortune to fill her up. The Entune is outdated most cars of the same class have apple car play and android auto. This would have been a nice feature to have. Also, the driver display should come with a digital speedometer readout. Despite those things mentioned. I love the car and hope it will last 10 years.

Bought the SE yesterday and I'm loving it, white with black tints looks amazing, its my first car so as a first time buyer I don't get to many choices and the other Japanese/Korean/American small sedan brands didn't catch my eye and Volkswagen was just too expensive something like a GTI was out of the question... but I can't complain like I said I'm loving it.

How are cars so cheap in the US. In my country, the base model also starts at the equivalent of about 19000 dollars but then it is only a 1.3 naturally aspirated asthmatic engine with a manual gearbox, no colour screen and no alloy wheels or fog lamps. Maybe though it's also because we get the European version and in that version the upper part of the door panels and entire dashboard is soft touch. I think the Euro version looks better though.
@AkioWasRight
@AkioWasRight 8 лет назад
Europeans get somethings that North Americans don't. North Americans get somethings that Europeans don't. Just making apples to apples comparisons, vehicles are generally cheaper in the US because of lower taxation. Also, the market is generally more competitive and works at a higher volume which lowers prices.
@Stetrain
@Stetrain 8 лет назад
Don't most european countries have VAT or other tax on vehicles? US prices tend to be quoted without this, some states apply their own taxes though.
@perry8867
@perry8867 8 лет назад
+Stetrain True, but a couple of things to understand there. Taxes and fees range from about 10% of the purchase price to peanuts. In California, a state at the higher end of the taxation scale, will slap about $2,300 (~8% sales tax + a few fees, etc. to a $23,000 Corolla, while a some states have zero sales tax but do slap on a few minor fees to the sales price. Also, there is big difference between MSRP and final price. If you're not in the US, it might be hard to believe, but the final, out-the-door price is usually less, sometimes much less than the MSRP. You can buy $50,000 Ford Super duty for $40,000 or less, even in an expensive state like California. In some EU nations, $40,000 won't even cover the tax on such a vehicle. Americans don't realize just how cheap their cars are sometimes.
@sukkeri
@sukkeri 8 лет назад
Europeans get more free stuff if they are not working. Other than that americans get more of everything.
@perry8867
@perry8867 8 лет назад
ilkkavu I don't think that's true. If you're younger and have money in the US, you have to pay for nearly everything, which is how, IMO, it should be. I don't support providing free healthcare to someone like Elon Musk (He's able-bodied and wealthy enough to support himself). But if you're poor enough, you can pretty much live without working in the US. In Europe, it depends on the country. Some European nations are just as easy with benefits as the US, if not more so, while others actually don't provided as much as your'd think, mainly because they can't afford to provide as much assistance as the US does.

At least Toyota fixed the marginal small offset crash test rating for the 2013-2016 models. I wouldn't want to be in a small offset crash in the prior model at all - there was a lot of intrusion in the passenger compartment.

I have a 2016 LE. I've never seen under 40mpg average. I have about 14k miles now. My last Toyota was a 2007 and I have to say it was better assembled. My 2016 has some rattles from the door panels sometimes. Also the Entune infotainment system has refused to work a few times. Restarted the car several times before it rebooted fully.

I won't drive anything smaller than a full size 4 dore truck so I'd never get a compact car. My dad bought a 2017 honda civic about a month ago and he traded it for a 2017 corolla yesterday because in his opinion "the seats are more comfortable" I tried them both out and I can't see where he's coming from. I liked the civic a lot more, to each his own I guess.

I test drove the Sentra SR and my dad has the 2014 Corolla S. The Corolla is still way more powerful than the Sentra SR Turbo. Better performance & handling = Corolla S / Much slower & smoother ride = Sentra SR Turbo. From a price point, the Corolla is still affordable, hold their value longer and last longer. Sentra SR Turbo loses value quickly, and Nissan hikes the price up.

Dont get me wrong, this is still a good reliable economy car. In my opinion, having the same old boring weak engine and cvt tranny with this car, year after year, tells me that Toyota isnt even trying anymore. They dont care about their Corolla cust's and more importantly, dont respect them. They say, those people will keep buying corollas, even if we dont change anything with the engine, tranny. Once in a while, they will throw you a bone with a special edition with a special paint job and different colors and stitching on the interior. Again, this is a very good economy car/appliance for commuting to and from work. Beyond that, nothing here for people that want just a little bit more power and personality in their cars. Honda, Kia, Hyundai have all managed to offer at least something along those lines with their econoboxes. But not Toyota. Good reliable and economical transportation, but certainly not even tops in its class.

This is why even after all these years people still say "my Toyota has 350k on it." I never hear that about Kia/hyundai or many others. I like general maintenance only. I don't want to pay for repairs while paying for the car.

A bunch of error messages displayed while I was stopped at a light, and I lost acceleration as I tried to steer onto a side road. I think the Toyota Corolla is a really high value car. Looks don't mean that much to me but I find the front end of that Corolla 2017 to be really ugly and unfinished looking.

Who is in charge of design at Toyota? The Yaris is ugly, the Prius is ugly and now the poor Corolla is ugly. This makes me sad.
