A few things here. First, get a belly pan, it's cheap insurance. My owners manual states to use 10w30, but I'm sure the 10w40 is fine. Fill the oil filter prior to installing to alleviate a dry start. Your video didn't show any measurement of the new oil installed, even know most of us know it's 3.9qts on the non-DCT. After draining the oil out on the center-stand, get it off the center-stand and put it on the kick stand. Because the plug is on that side, leaning the bike to that side ensures that you're getting ALL the oil out. My first oil change was completely on the center-stand and I put 3.9qts. in and it was over filled because all the oil doesn't drain out on the center-stand. There is a couple of vid's on oil changes, you just have to search for them. Thanks for posting another video.

Don't forget the final drive oil. Cheap , quick and easy! I also have the 6 speed wing. Picked mine up 4 years ago this month with 3 miles on it. Just passed 42,000 today. 12 oil changes, on 2nd set of tires, front brake pads. & talked the dealer into replacing the air cleaner for free when it was in for a warranty issue to replace some broken Tupperware under the seat. Ride safe & often! "You don't get yesterday back & you can't buy a minute!"

Good Video. I had no idea it was that slow to refill the Goldwing Honda has some tight tolerances. Thanks for sharing with us.

Thats how you do the 6MT. I warm my engine up till the cooling fans cycle, let it set for 5 mins then drain and pull the filter. I also take it off the center stand and bounce the bike off the front brake and lean it side to side. On mine you can hear vacuum pockets break and get more oil out of it. The engine loves to hold oil. Put it back on the center stand, put the drain plug in with new crush washer and fill the oil filter with a lubed o-ring and clean mating surface and install. Put 4ea. full qts. in or one gal. total and call it good. Having the dipstick loose and resting on the threads really does not help with filling the engine back up. The limiting factor is the size of the funnel hole at the tip of the funnel. Then run the engine 3 to 5 mins, shut the engine off wait 3 to 5 mins then check the oil. Mines always 1/16" below the full line when checked proper on the center stand. And if I let it set overnight or a week and check it cold it's always 1/16" above the full line. First accessory for a 6th gen Wing should be the Traxxion dipstick extender. Also don't forget to check the crankcase breather tube located on the rear of the left cylinder bank. Remove the fog light cover and then two screws for the engine/coil pack cover and dig the hose out and check it. There could be a small amount of oil in the tube. Remove the plug and drain it if oil is in the tube. This basically is a catch can/tube and a good way to keep up with engine blow by. All internal combustion engines have blow by. If you check the tube regularly and you see it go from a trace to a lot in the tube you then know you might need to check into the oil your using, do a compression and leak down test. The more blow by you have the more oil that will be in that tube. Also if the tube fills up completely seeing it's connected to the filterbox in the intake trak your bike can start smoking making one think it's using oil and also ruin the O2 sensor and cats in the exhaust system. It's in the owners manual in the maint. section. Keep up with it. It's a window into engine health. Good Luck!

That is a nice ride. Thanks for sharing the how-to video. A lot of people think oil changes are hard to do.

Good job. My process is similar to yours with the inclusion of an oil drip tray placed underneath before starting. The tray catches drips or spills while working underneath the bike.

LOL the oil filter wrench sticking to the filter, been there, put a little of the used oil on the filter not a lot just a smear and it will come off easier and I always replaced th plug drain seals, its just makes sense you already have it off and they don't cost that much, plus less to worry about😀 On those bikes like the gold wing, you can get a fluid transfer pump but pouring into a funnel works too.

Great tip on the oil filter...I just bought one of those extractor pumps for my yamaha golf cart, is that what you mean?

@@JP1970 Pretty much, the one I got fits onto 1 quart oil bottles, it's like a a hand pump you find on soap dispensers. I got it on Amazon, they make them for the 4 qt jugs too I know they make them for the five gallon buckets. Now if I could find a small electric pump LOL Actually they do make them they got one you use your electric drill to operate it, but for a motorcycle a hand operated one doesn't take that long and its probably better to do it slowly, especially on machine like a Gold Wing, when it comes to maintenance taking your time on working on it is way better than rushing the task. breaking something on that engine can get expensive. I always found Honda makes nice motorcycles.

Would introduction of new oil be faster with a vent i.e. leaving dipstick out while pouring?
@JP1970

I actually had the dipstick out, so I do t think so. It has some tight engineering in there! 😎
