On 24th June, 2018, a factory Volkswagen I.D.R driven by Romain Dumas smashed the Pikes Peak hillclimb record with a time of 7m57.148s. The I.D. R is an electric vehicle.
Prior to this, Sébastien Loeb's 2013 record up the 12.42-mile Colorado course in a 3.2-litre twin-turbo Peugeot 208 had stood at 8m13.878s.
