2020 MG ZS 1.5 Exclusive Manual Walkaround: • 2020 MG ZS 1.5 Exclusi...
Last month, I was privileged to be able to borrow a 2019 MG 1.5 Exclusive for a week ( • Tweed Jacket Reviews: ... ) and also to attend the launch of the new 2019 MG ZS EV as a guest of the Planet Auto RU-vid channel ( • 2019 MG ZS EV Exclusiv... ). The walkaround I did of the ZS EV became the most popular video ever on my channel, and I am grateful to all of you who have watched it, even if was made in something of a hurry and is quite shambolic... A lot of my viewers seem to love modern MG content (and rightly so), and therefore I asked the lovely team at the MG press office if I could borrow another ZS, this time the 1.0 litre automatic.
In this video, expect multiple attempts to show the sat nav system, slightly hidden USB ports due to bad camera angles, some very comfortable seats, remarkable ease of getting in and out, celebration of soft touch dashboard plastics, an adjustable boot floor, fingers on the lens and a convenient boot release with a large octagon... Nothing untoward, then!
As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

In case you have not seen it already, here is the walkaround of the MG ZS EV which I did last month at the press launch, where I was a guest of the Planet Auto RU-vid channel (forgot to mention it in the video): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L1LRdklYcek.html

Mg are lucky to have you displaying their cars. You certainly know how to make them attractive to us buyers. The colour reminds me of the Mazda red

Thanks Matt! I am privileged to have been offered the chance to have one of these for a week. So far, my overriding impression is one of smoothness and comfort.

They're a good looking small SUV. Every time I see one it reminds me of the Jag E-Pace

Thanks Matt! Yes, in colours like this metallic red, they certainly do look fairly attractive, and are much less money than an E-Pace too.

I agree...thought I was the only one who felt this way. Even my missus thinks the same. Just a couple of days ago, we were driving out of our home and we saw a neighbour's jag (don't ask me how come she never noticed our neighbours always had a jag - let's just say that she is special in every good way and generally minds her business lol ), and she said "Baby, is that the MG you were talking about?" So you're not alone High Peak Studios :)

These were actually released before the E-Pace. So you could say that Jag copied MG

Are there many petrol engine options on this model?
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
Currently, there is a 1.5 normally aspirated four cylinder petrol with a manual gearbox and 105 bhp, as used in the MG3 as well, and then this 1.0 turbocharged three cylinder petrol engine with a dual clutch automatic gearbox and 111 bhp. I will be filming a full review on the car tomorrow and that will be out in the next couple of weeks. My week with it it is going really well so far!

This is a great SUV, affordable a few trims to choose from and engines, however this has a great box and engine combo. *ben

Thanks very much indeed again, Ben! Yes, it's a good one, and I know that Planet Auto has some of the best MG ZS content on RU-vid. I only hope that I can do the car justice during my time with it, as it is superb. I was reminded today just how comfortable and easy to live with these are!

I would love to hear what you think about the underside of the ZS. I had a look under one in the showroom and didn't think it had much protection against corrosion. I have a 5 year old Kia and it has good protection under the car with no sign of any issues. What's your opinion on this? I really like the ZS but this was one thing that bothered me. I know you have an MG3 so might have a better idea about it.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
Thanks very much indeed for the question! Bearing in mind that this is a much more expensive car than our MG3, and five years newer, I don't think that this is going to be a problem. As far as I know, we have no rust showing on our car, which is from the first year of final assembly at Longbridge, and the general consensus is that the fully Chinese assembled cars, which is all post 2016 MGs in this country, are better still. Like your Kia, all MGs now come with a seven year warranty, so that does speak of an increased level of quality over our 2014 car, which only came with the standard three years of cover. I will have to get my friend Mr Coleman (aka the Rubbish Mechanic) to take a look at the rustproofing underneath for me when he comes to fix the Rover 620 GSI next week, and I will let you know what he says...

@@MultiBlue67, no problem at all! He recently changed the discs and pads on the MG3 after over five years and 60,000 miles and discovered they were still the original ones. That could be down to our careful driving (although I doubt that it is entirely the case), but I think that it is at least partly down to the cars being built to a better standard than they initially appear.

There is one particular UK owner of a ZS who has been very vocal regarding rust issues on his seven month old car. He says he knows of two other UK owners with similar issues. All three cars are white. According to him, MG have not been very helpful and last I heard, he was talking of involving the Ombudsman.
@lloydvehicleconsulting

@@stanleyleopard6799, I think I have heard something about this. I haven't seen any evidence of this on the test car I have at all, but that isn't particularly surprising...

i test drove this car yesterday and noticed two things that bugged me a bit, and i was hoping it was only characteristic of that particular one i drove and not all ZS's.. 1. the accelerator often went flat on my foot while speeding on the motorway, as if trying to cut me off the speed. It only happens for a second and then it normalises. It really annoyed me and seemed a deal breaker 2. There was an intermittent hissing-like sound that i heard while driving. It is arguably mild in pitch however noticeable enough to annoy or concern me. Has anyone else experienced such? I am not car techy so i don't know if there are any logical explanations to those occurrences :(

Thanks Larry! I have driven two ZS EVs and both the manual and automatic versions of the petrol ZS (like this 1.0 Exclusive Automatic). I had this particular car in the review for a week and did around 400 miles in it. Never experienced any problems like that with it, and the manual wasn't like that either. I suspect that it may just have been the particular car that you drove, although I wouldn't really be able to say for sure. Hope that helps!

@@larryFWD, that's my pleasure! I don't work for MG or any other manufacturer, but I do know their cars pretty well, and the ZS models I have driven over the course of the past year have all been really good. I hope that you are able to find the car that you are looking for!

@@lloydvehicleconsulting I hope so too. If it wasn't for my limited budget, I'd be going for the HS as I test drove both the ZS and the HS. The latter was dreamier to driver :)
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
@@larryFWD, yes, I have both a full review and a walkaround of the MG HS on my RU-vid channel if you have not already seen them. Particularly in the higher trim levels, such as the one that I was testing, the HS is lovely. The GS that it replaced is incredible value secondhand and well equipped for the price, but the HS is a significant step up in quality. You are right that the ZS is a bit more affordable, though!

Yes, MG have a design studio in Marylebone which I was privileged to visit in July 2019 for the launch of the MG ZS EV, where I was a guest of the Planet Auto RU-vid channel. They also still do some engineering up in Longbridge, I believe. We have just filmed a full review of the facelifted version of this car for the channel, and it should be up within a couple of weeks if you are interested...

There are definitely resemblances between some of the switchgear in an MG and that in an Audi, for example, but a lot of cars are a bit like this (the Kia Stinger, for example).
