2019 Mustang GT 10 Speed Transmission Issues FIXED! UPDATE

2019 Mustang GT 10 Speed transmission issues resolved. I had been experiencing issues with the 10 speed transmission on my 2019 Mustang GT. I took it in to the dealer and here's what they found that was wrong with the 10 speed transmission in Mustang GT 5.0.
If you haven't watched the part 1 of the video, I highly recommend watching that as I go in detail for everything I was experiencing with the 10 Speed transmission on my 2019 Mustang GT. I was encountering those symptoms almost 80% of the time and it finally got annoying.

The transmission tech was able to replicate the issues on my 10 speed transmission as it was happening frequently. My Mustang is finally back to normal and does smooth shifts as you would expect from the 10 speed transmission.

I took my wifes 19 GT with the 10 sp auto to the dealer to have them fix the hard shifts that it was doing and they said it was normal for the car. Did not like their BS answer so I ended up having my car tuned and now it shifts beautifully and much more power as well.

Yeah some dealers can be ignorant when it comes to 10 speed and try to send you back without providing solutions. Which tune did you go with? I’m thinking of tuning mine too as I’ve heard most tuned 10 speed have no issues

Turning my 10 speed 5.0 into the dealer for the 2nd time at the end of this month, hard shifts into 3rd and 5th and jumps forward when shifting into drive and reverse from park. Already been re-flashed once. Super annoying....good to see yours is all good!

Same story with the one on mine. Sometimes felt like it would launch me out of the garage when I put it in reverse, and other times smooth as silk. Very poor manners at times and always a jerk as it comes to a stop. They updated the software but it didn’t last very long before it went back to its bad habits again. I got so pissed off at the thing I traded it off. It’s really a shame the Ford has blown it so bad on this transmission. I traded on a 2018 Audi A5 with a dual clutch automatic and it’s in immensely better behaved transmission. Which is odd because dual clutch automatics have a reputation of being rough and jerky. It’s a disgrace that Ford has this thing on the market and it’s such a mess. I suggest everyone avoid these transmissions until it’s well known that Ford has worked the bugs out of them. The dealer is backed up on transmission repairs because so many people are mad at this transmission, which of course is used in many Ford trucks as well as the mustang. I have sworn off Ford products since 1999 and I gave them another chance and they blow it again. By the time I forgive them again I’ll probably be too old to drive LOL

the adaptive learning is a common problem with the 10R80. They reset the adaptive learning - the weird shifting caused by the adaptation will come back after a few weeks / months

You can turn the adaptive tables off using forscan. No more issue.

Thanks, you may have saved me a trip to the dealer, maybe. My 19 GT has just started taking time to fully engage R and D when started cold, and giving it gas makes it move but barely, and it sounds strange. After 15-20s maybe, it shifts into gear but with a clunk and jerk, then seems to drive completely normally. Just 6K miles. Had a track weekend recently, and sometimes in a straight, under full throttle, it would just seem to go into neutral for a couple of sec., then get back to normal. I plan to reset the shift tables myself and bet that will fix it.

I hope it’s just a software issue for you as well. I’ve definitely heard about R and D taking time and software usually fixes that. However, for it to into neutral under full throttle is weird. Hopefully easy fix! Let me know how that goes

You may have just solved my problem…. Took my mustang to the dealership cause I felt it jerk and stutter too much, called today and said everything was fine. I’ll definitely push to see if they can reset or do some software update. The loaner mustang they gave me (10 speed as well) drives prefect. And they said it was normal for the car to jerk “as it was learning my driving style”. Pray that it’s an easy solution. Thanks for the vid!!!!

I’m glad I was able to help you! 10 speed relies heavily on adaptive learning and as it’s learning your habits it can be a bit jerky. Most 10 speed issues happen to be software related so asking for transmission reset or software update should solve it. Hope it’s fixed soon!

My 2021 mustang has transmission issues. The computers have been updated and the problem continues. My dealer, Herb Chambers of Westboro says their is nothing wrong. However, I am not imagining it and my complaint matches lawsuits filed in Mass and California

I have a 20 GT it was doing the same thing. Took it in the freeway and suddenly it dropped from 10th to 7th and then 3rd lurching and jerking. It went into limp mode with all Sensors like pre collision warning unavailable. Check engine light came on. This was in D. It idled fine when in park. Got it towed- informed the computer had an alarm with transmission but they couldn’t replicate it. Suggested a software upgrade/downloads. Transmission oil low at 15K service which I thought was odd- 4 days before this happened. Hoping it’s just the software and not transmission..

Oh no that doesn’t sound good! If the Check engine light is coming on then I would say that’s not good. But it could also be due to low fluid which would cause transmission to jerk. Once they fill it up the light should go away

Think I'm having a similar problem drove in S mode for the first time yesterday on the highway & loves the Throttle response. Today drove it in standard Drive mode & now I have a jeeky up shift going into 3rd gear

That maybe due to trying S mode for first time. The car learns shift patterns depending on how you drive. However, if this continues then there’s a problem but can be easily fixed with a software update

How smooth is the car ? I noticed my car shifting hard and when breaking feels jerky but I don’t know if it’s due to the fact that it is a sport car or something could be wrong because every other car I drive is super smooth and you barley even feel the shifts

The car in normal mode is really smooth but if you put it in sport mode it can get a little harsh shifting and jerky but that’s to emulate the sportiness rather than being an issue

I have a 2019 5.0 Premium PP1, and I noticed there is delayed engagement when I change the transmission shift lever into DRIVE. Has anyone run into the same problem and how they fix it?

That seems to be a very common problem with 10 speed. I have rented few ecoboost mustangs and have ran into the issue. Either it would engage in a delayed manner or jerk pretty harshly. I would suggest taking it to the dealer as it's normally fixed by updating the software.

Got a 20, been to the dealer for Sport Mode hercky jercky issues with trans. Took back 3 times. Documented shifting of gears is aggressive but no codes so it is normal….I was like WTF, the car is lunging when shifting out of 3rd??? This is perfectly normal for Mustangs. I am ready to trade in on a Dodge! All this money on a car with a trash trans

Yeah 10 speed software issues really make this transmission a bit too quirky. Although it's amazing when just flat out flooring it, it can be a jerky around normal driving. Sport mode jerkiness to an extent is expected but if it's too harsh then something is wrong.

@@Red5ohlast year trans was rebuilt and problem got fixed, ffwd to a few months ago, it all started again. Last week battery out of the blue went down to 8v and would not start. Short charge back to 14v. This is an issue at 42k miles. Replaced battery and all my issues have gone away with the trans, bs notifications, mirrors, sync issues, you name it. Knock on wood, its been a week but car never drove as great as this. There is no notice of shift change. Like glass.

I have the same problem but that’s when it’s shifting into a higher gear when I’m around 75 or 80 mph I get a hard jerk before the gear kicks in and also when downshifting I get a loud tick coming from below my car

I think the hard jerk can be fixed via software update so I would take it in if you have the warranty. For the loud tick coming while downshifting that sounds strange to me. I would definitely schedule an appointment with the dealership.

I would take it in to the dealer. They can try to update the software. I know many people who’ve had issues with the 10 spd but luckily software update fixes them

Having an issue with my 2018 when it comes to driving above 100 mph. Like the car gets to a certain speed around like 110 and just jolts very hard and slows down but nothing shows on the dash. Going to take it to the shop. Hopefully a software issue….

Not everyone has good luck with boost. 6,500 miles... I just found the limit of the clutches on mine. Luckily I have a data log of the run. It slipped going into 6th at the track. I hope to upload the video tomorrow. I did run a new personal best that day... but still frustrating. I went the 10R80 route because the MT-82s supposedly weren't holding the power as well.

It varies on what options you get but OTD for premium should be around $40k. Transmission issue has been resolved. This 10 speed is just quirky at best but no major issues has been reported based on what I know.

@@Red5oh when i am stopping on the red light it slams 1 gear to early I put on sport to watch on what gear is and slowing dow it downshift slow from 10 to 3 no feeling. But from 3-2-1 really fast and the car is on higher rpm but slams 1 gear

Do you always have the issue or occasionally? It’s worth asking the dealer to check for a software update which would effectively reset the transmission software removing any corrupted files. Let me know if this helps

I have a similar issue with my 2020 GT, it works fine until I'm cruising in 10th gear, if I want to downshift with slight pressure on the gas pedal, like to pass a car, it jerks and shudders from 10th to 8th gear, very annoying! I took it to the dealer and told them what you found out about a corrupted file, they pretty much ignored that, test drove it, gave it back to me saying "everything normal" I don't know what to do at this point, would it be possible to talk to your dealer and have them talk to mine?

Idk if my dealer will be able to do that it was more than a year ago. Does it do harsh downshifts too or just shudders? If the dealership was not able to replicate it and it happens frequently I would record it and show it to them. There’s a tsb out for 10 speed transmission so they should be able to update it

It puts the rpm even lower and helps the car stay in power as gears are stacked even closer. Both modern 10 and 8 speed are solid options though

Hi dear, I have a new Mustang GT premium with 10 gear transmission, I am experiencing a similar issue, today I took it to the dealer and they took a test drive and said there is no problem with what they found. They said feeling the downshifting is not an issue🤷🏻‍♂️ however, they told me to bring it back on Sunday so they will check it again!! Do you really think it’s an adaptive learning problem?

Mine went away after they fixed the file so I m guessing yes. My first rep told me the same that you’re supposed to feel the downshift. I told him I understand it’s supposed to be a bit firm so it feels sporty but it shouldn’t be harsh where it shakes the whole car. They agreed to take a look and found the problem

Mine was done in 3 hours. They originally wanted the car for 2-3 days but I told them it’s mostly likely a software update so I don’t want to leave the car. They then told me bring it first thing in the morning

I have a 10r80 mustang, when I gear down to 3rd with the paddle shifters, give it the gas then put it back into automatic mode to let it shift into 4th no problems, but there is a little tug going into 5th gear even after I let the computer shift. Is this a cause for concern?

5th gear seems to be a bit quirky. Many owners experience something funny 5th shift. I myself would occasionally feel a harsh shift to 5th paddle or no paddles. If under warranty I’d take it in to the dealer and maybe they can update the software. Software updates on these transmission take care of most issues

Can someone help me, is it normal for my mustang to skip 3 and 5 gear? It's an automatic and I never see it hit those gears on the digital dash

Yes completely normal. When using D selector and giving normal amount of gas it will go 1>3>5>6. If you’re in sport mode or give aggressive gas under D selector then it won’t skip gear

My 2018 GT mustang that's automatic it's having issues and I just got it 2 weeks ago. Took it to AutoZone and it popped up as reprogram power train control module and I hope it's just that.

It didn't come with the warranty because it has 52,000. But I still have time to get the warranty but it will be 1700 if I want it. I'll take it today and see what they say and when I was trying to park it down hill it sounded like it was revving on itself.

@@love_icecream355 Yeah if it shifts fine otherwise then it could be some electronic/retuning I would let dealer take care. Just an fyi mustangs have 3 year 36k bumper to bumper and 5 year 60k miles for engine and transmission. So you should be under warranty if they tell you otherwise I’d call a different dealer. Hopefully that helps don’t want dealer to take advantage of you

So basically any issues with speakers, seats, headlights not working etc, you’re not covered under warranty as it ran out 3 year 36k miles. But engine and transmission stuff youre covered for another 8k miles

Get a cheap Obd2 Bluetooth scanner and reset the adaptive table yourself. Easy.

My 2020 ecoboost was a mess. Harsh up shifts, jerky downshifts, especially when it drops into first while stopping. Extremely harsh reverse engagement at times. Dealer did all the software work and it was far better for a short period. But by week 2 it was not good again. Dealer says they have huge numbers of complaints on this transmission, and Ford has no solution. I’m a very pissed Ford owner. This car is absolute junk for its price. I’m done with Ford products.

I agree with you I honestly think they should’ve added a ZF8. I’ve been in 2 ecoboost rentals and although the transmission ok, every-time I put it in D or R the jerk was so bad!

No code was thrown or CEL just odd behavior

@@Red5oh mine has been acting crazy and I can’t get any Ford service department to reprogram my transmission. I have that same transmission in my 2020 Ford Ranger.

@@Aceinfinity-le8zc I would take it in and tell them there are issues. Don’t mention software update. As long as they can replicate it they will perform the software update/reprogram
