Watching this in Feb 2021-it’s almost been 2 years since the last selection show! I need my fix lol! (Also I’m a Zags fan and slightly offended that Kentucky fans we’re hoping for them as their 1)
Notes: EAST - Last time Duke was the overall #1 seed was 2006 (#1 SOUTH - lost in the Sweet 16 to LSU, who was their #3 seed). Michigan St as the #2 seed made it the third time they were that seed (2009/2016 - MIDWEST). SOUTH - Virginia's bracket obviously was the tempo bracket with teams like Wisconsin, Kansas St, Saint Mary's, Old Dominion, and Cincinnati who were known for playing at slow tempos. Tennessee as the #2 seed is notable in that when UVA became a #1 seed in 2014, they were blown out by Tennessee in nonconference play though the coach at that time was Cuonzo Martin. Virginia faced Wisconsin in the Atlantis championship (November 2018) MIDWEST - North Carolina and Kentucky were previously #1 and #2 in the 2017 SOUTH bracket (Memphis, TN). WEST - Gonzaga and Texas Tech previously played each other in 2005 (Round of 32 - Tucson, AZ). That same year, Michigan's John Beilein coached against Texas Tech when he was at West Virginia.
Sorry, but they won’t. The schedule they had this year was not nearly as tough as several other teams like MSU or Mich, even Duke in the ACC. In my mind they just don’t have a shot, but you never know.
