Glad I checked for a 4 cylinder oil change I been watching V6 oil change videos 😅 I didn't know they used completely different filter for the I4 and V6 engine
I've done hundreds of oil changes (I have a new Tacoma so I wanted to see where the filter was located without getting under the vehicle), so here are some tips: 1) Change oil when the engine is hot...not warm. You get better drainage. 2) Loosen the oil filter just a bit, but don't break the seal...then using a spike poke a small hole into the bottom...let it drain. 3) Don't install the oil pan drain plug until the filter is removed...breaking the seal of the filter allows more oil to drain out of the pan from the engine oil passages. 4) Ensure the old oil filter seal is no longer on the engine filter adapter. 5) Pre-fill the new oil filter...never put a new filter on dry. 6) Always torque the oil pan drain bolt...DON"T do the quarter turn method.
I just did my 2020 Tacoma 4 cylinder. You definitely need to use a cap wrench, no room for strap wrench. The factory filter was insanely tight. I had to use an extension on the wrench handle to even get in to move. Thanks for video.
Thanks for the video - taking the time to film, edit, and download what steps the oil change took is kind of you. I just picked up a 4 cylinder and I'm going to change the oil myself. I don't trust the dealerships and it didn't look too hard.
The 3 rd gen 2.7 takes 6.1 qts at the factory in a bone dry block at the factory. Subsequent oil changes are well below that as all the oil does not come back out upon draining. The sticks are very hard to read which makes matter worse. 5qt is all that I ever add at an oil change. All due respect to video poster but I would not be over filling the 2.7 with an additional 38oz of oil. Toyota should have never printed 6.1 in the owners manual. It's flat out wrong.
After you run the engine for a bit (and then shut the engine off), use a rag to wipe the dipstick as you pull it out of the tube. Clean all oil residue off the dipstick. Put it back in and then pull it out to check oil level. Any other way you will get a false reading.
Thats what we have happen at work on pre checks. Half the employees don't even know how to check oil on trucks that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Oh well, blow it up and the tax payer pays for it.
Yes, but I don't trust them. Last time I went in to do a free oil change on my wife's new 2010 Corolla, I found a used mechanic's rag stuffed into the Cabin filter compartment, when I went to change it. I had told them not to change the filter, so I guess they got pissed at me and stuffed rags in it to block air flow, that was in 2010. Not cool. I plan on keeping this truck. I have had new Camrys and new Corollas since 2009, so I have been doing my own maintenance since that experience. I have also found out that since the techs. only get paid per vehicle they do and have to rush, they don't let all the oil drain out, over tighten the oil filter and the drain plug. Over torque the lug nuts for tire rotation, over fill tire pressure. So no more, I do everything.
Not a bad video for your first time, I have seen other vids with far less information, and too much background music. I f I want to listen to music I can do that anytime. The screw in funnel and the magnetic tool are great, where did you get them? My first Tacoma is on order in the 4cyl 4x4. Along 6 week wait.
Hi, Edward this is it Motivx Tools Advanced Engine Oil Funnel. MX2301 this version comes with the adapter for VW. You would probably just need the funnel no adapter. B016FVJUX0
I picked one up about a month ago that’s 4x4 and all because I live up in the mountains and the only bad thing about it is if you like cruise control in the mountains it sucks because it always wants to shift dropping two gears a lot but other than that I love it! Up here I’ll get 20ish miles per gallon but driving in flat areas 25
Yes its a Great truck, rides and drives better than I expected a truck to drive and feel. Not going to win any races but gets up to 80mph pretty quick when merging onto the Interstate.
I go with Tom care, not Toyota care, getting ready to do my second oil change 10000 miles. Have a 22 Tacoma Sr. Easy to do it yourself if you don't mind getting a little dirty. Peace of mind.
Does anyone know if any skid plates must be removed to get to the oil filter on this 4-cylinder edition SR? I know the 6-cylinder edition requires a skid plate removal. Not sure on the 4-cylinder edition.
No not at all, I have had 4cyls since 2009 in all my Camrys and its the same as all of them, the Camrys got a little better gas mpg. But what you expect it's a truck. A little noisier. It's got the ECT Power button which holds the gears longer, shifts at higher rpms, that makes it a little quicker. Merging onto the Interstate up to 85 in like 3 seconds. I think that's pretty good, no hesitation. It's not as quick as my Honda Accord 6cyl it had 272HP though, that's was quick.
@@fixestips Thank you, I will be picking up my very first tacoma later today, another dealer has one, So I am taking it. I decided waiting 6 weeks is too long, shopped around on Auto Trader yesterday, and found my truck. Let the fun begin.
@@fixestips You are welcome as well, keep the videos coming, ordering Weathertech Rain guards for my doors this week. Really loving the Metallic Silver Sky Paint. The truck is great, the 4cyl. is just fine, works for me.
@@fixestips I have had my new Tacoma 4cyl. truck for 1 month now, I really like it, the 4cyl. is just fine. Very satified with it, first oil change will be done in early Oct.
@@fixestips I just purchased a 2019 "Demo" here on the Island of Guam from the dealership. It's the 2.7l, 4cyl, access cab with a bed cover, 22K miles on it. Cost me 27,000 here in the year 2022. Everything cost more on a remote island I suppose.
Hey I don'y speak spanish, (0W 30 oil not very thin?) is what I get in translation, so I don't know what you are trying to ask? You supposed to use what's in the owners manual, mine is 0W 20 oil. Sorry
Nah the 4cyl is painfully slow. The damn cruise control down shifts when the wind is against you on the interstate. It's pathetic. It's extremely underpowered.
