The VoltBike Elegant is a lower priced step-through commuter ebike at that comes in 2 colors (black or glossy white), included fenders, racks, integrated lights, and a suspension fork. Features a 500 watt Bafang hub-drive, 48v 12.8ah high capacity battery, a throttle, and 9 modes of cadence based pedal assist. A commuter ready setup from the fenders with mud-flaps, tool-free adjustable stem, full plastic chain guide, lights, helmet, and rack. The drivetrain range is a bit limited with just a 14-28 tooth cassette, the mechanical brakes hinder some stopping immediacy (although there are motor inhibitors), and the rear light only contains one LED so it's more like a big a reflector.

We're lucky as a community to have Court out there ignoring the weather and roaming the planet to check out these bikes. The chain-guard and free helmet are a nice touch.

Great job by Court. It was really cold that day at around 0 degree C.

Another great review. I wish you spent a little less time on the displays though. I care more about the adjustability of the handlebars and the rider positioning, since we can't ride before we buy these. Is the stem adjustable? You didn't say anything about it unless I missed it.

Adjustable stem description begins at about 1:16.

Looking to ride 14 km total to and from work in Vancouver. Undecided between the Voltbike Elegant and Rad Step thru. Any opinions and suggestions?

Hey do you guys work with Amazon FBA/Shopify store owners online to become distubtors for your ebikes? I would love to become an online dealer for the company if possible?

I like & appreciate Court and his thorough reviews. However, I'm tired of all these horribly under-powered eurocentric limited ebikes even though they look good and are priced well. 36-48volts @ 500watts is ridiculous at any price. Current state of the art is 52v @ 1500w minimum... that is if you want to climb a hill ;~) Check out LunaCycle.com for the very best quality, prices and service. (I don't work for 'em but they get all my business)

It all depends on what you're looking for. I have a scooter that will go 40 mph but I have a Class 3 e-bike with a "mere" 350W motor because it's a tool to get me to work out. With 1500 W power I would not work out much and I was also hard pressed to find bikes with real legitimate usable range that was north of 40 miles.

@Greg Takacs That's where the 9 levels of PAS Come into play(pedal assist). If you want more exercise you can all but eliminate the motor if so desired via PAS level settings. These settings also allow you to conquer that monster hill when needed or to get to work daily without being soaked in sweat... More & flexible power is always better in my book.

@Martin Schmidt Not so my friend, you obviously have never ridden a 1000+watt bike yet. The mid-drive BBSHD weighs less than a hub motor and certainly a geared one. A larger amp-hour Ii-on battery pack costs more of course but will provide a much greater range and longer lifetime when properly charged to only 80-90%. You need to use a good, well made frame regardless of the type of drive or amount of power used. I have built & ridden all types of ebikes for many years as they have evolved. Nothing is more stable & agile than a low center of gravity mid-drive with a well placed battery low in the frame triangle - nothing. My current bike is a 6061 aluminum full suspension BBSHD 160nm 52v @ 21ah that weighs 58lbs total. *I would never go back to the sluggish hub drives & top-heavy rack batteries.

LOVE that nazi salute at the beginning! GREAT way to start a bike review! Is this a German brand bike?

your face is always too close to the camera. I'd like to see more bicycles, not your face.
