We’ve logged plenty of miles in the 13th-generation Ford F-150. After initially hitting the road in 2014 for the 2015 model year, 2020 will be the final year for the F-150 that made headlines for its aluminum body, EcoBoost engines, and advanced tech that was a first among pickups.
Even as this chapter in the F-150’s history comes to a close, it’s still offered in a variety of flavours that you can customize, upgrade, and fine-tune. There’s something for everyone: from a simple work truck to an EcoBoost-powered luxury towing rig, to the racy and highly specialized F-150 Raptor.
So, with the 2021 F-150 on the horizon, we decided to bid farewell to the current truck with one final go in the 2020 F-150 King Ranch. Under the skin, it’s the same F-150 we know and love, but on the surface and inside, it’s set apart with no shortage of high-end, Western-themed touches.
There’s plenty of chrome and unique styling cues, but the secret sauce is the interior. Before you step inside, two things hit you. First, the colour: you’re met with soft and rich browns, silvers, blacks, and more chrome. Second? The smell. The leather is so fragrant, it’ll stick with you for hours after leaving the truck.
The twin-turbo, 3.5L EcoBoost V6 under the hood is good for 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s strong and silent when driven gently, and it gets the F-150 moving from revs far lower than the available 5.0L V8. Ride quality over rough roads leaves a bit to be desired, but if you’re after long-distance relaxation, the F-150 King Ranch is tough to beat.
