The thing I like best about this channel is that you review cars (even ones that aren't super exciting) as someone who enjoys driving. I see too many reviews where the attitude is "if you'd consider a family car like this you would only care about cubic volume and comfort" when in reality, people who like to drive, but need a reliable vehicle with room for a family still want to know if you can left foot brake that Camry into a slide when the family isn't along.

I would take the Camry AWD over the Altima or Legacy for one big reason--the 8 speed automatic vs. the CVTs. Nissan's and Subaru's biggest mistake is wedding themselves to CVTs. Toyota will have a big winner here in snow country. The biggest dumb thing that Toyota does is the use of 19" rims and low profile tires on their higher trims. As an example, the retail price on a set of Michelin Crossclimate2 tires for the 19" Camry wheels is about 50% higher than for the standard 17" Camry wheel size. Worse yet, those low profile tires are way more prone to road damage and are more sensitive to temperature-induced tire pressure variations. A classic case of appearance over functionality.

It is stupid to put Dynamic Torque Control on 2020 Toyota Camry AWD instead of putting Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD(TV-AWD) on the new 2020 Toyota Camry. Because it can give it more power and traction during heavy condition. They should have diff lock button just like Rav4 has. It will be a big mistake putting Dynamic Torque Control instead of Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD. If you're looking for a vehicle based on AWD capability, Subaru all day long. If AWD is just a feature you'd like to have on your new car, shop the cars like you normally would. The Altima is nice, roomy, and gets decent gas mileage, and is pretty quick for a cvt. The Subaru is loaded with options stock. It comes with a lot of features that you have to pay extra for when you get another brand. Can't beat the Subaru when it comes to AWD though. Most of the other companies now offering AWD have a half-assed system. Not sure how Toyota stacks up, but I think it sounded like they put a cheap system in it, just so they could say they offer AWD.

Before this even came out I already personally knew 7 people that were gonna buy it. I also recommended it to my grandma who was about to pull the trigger on a RAV4. I’m also seriously considering buying one. This is the first Camry in 15 years that I liked more than the Accord and the AWD only widens the gap. The AWD system on this car seems rudimentary enough that getting a FWD Camry with winter tires might be a better choice in terms of getting the actual car you want (V6? Hybrid? TRD? Whatever), while still handling winter weather and roads well. It would have been nice to see how the FWD models handled the snow/ice course compared to the new AWD model. I'm guessing not a huge difference. On the other hand if AWD is kind of a must have, don't you want the best AWD system available in a car?
@Soh90
@Soh90 4 года назад
Marc Bertucco Winter tires and FWD is enough for most people, yes. But winter tires and AWD is far superior. And if you live somewhere that’s gonna see 5” average every winter, I can’t think of a better way to spend $1,500. Better than spending that coin on something completely unnecessary like leather seats or a fancy sound system. AWD is t just for winter though. There are benefits in the rain as well. At the end of the day, it’s $1,500. And I rather spend that and have it and not need it, then need it for that one faithful day and not have it. I’ve been stuck plenty of times watching my two front wheels spin and struggle with winter tires and think to myself, “if only I had AWD right here I could have saved myself 15 minutes” lol

They messed up the opportunity to have a V6 option AWD. That would steal alot from Subaru.

Subaru sold 35,000 Legacys in the US in 2019. Toyota sold 336,978 Camrys during the same period. Only the top two Legacy trims come with the turbo (vast majority of shoppers buy mid-spec or base model) so just having AWD on the Camry is already going to steal a ton of sales from Subaru. Toyota made the right decision. Leave it to someone who actually knows about the car industry, right?

Between the Nissan Subaru and Toyota, Nissan is out of the mix since they are not as reliable so it would be between the Subaru and Toyota. I would have to drive them both to see for myself. Hard to choose. Now that Toyota has added AWD they are closing the gap. Sure the Subaru has more HP but with all the stress on the engine how will that look at 300k? That is always my top priority.

Get yourself a pair of Blizzak Snow Tires and put them on a new Honda Insight and then save $12,000 which you could invest for your next car. You'd be getting over 50 miles to the gallon have an extremely sharp looking car with good driving Dynamics and you'd still go any place you need to go within reason. Why $38,000 for a Camry? Just over the top.

My 2018 Subaru outback 2.5 premium with all the options is much heavier, longer (that's what she said) and taller than this awd Camry yet my outback gets 27mpg city and 32mpg hwy, its very capable when it comes to offroading especially with its 8.7 inches of ground clearance and can also tow 2700lbs, not to mention that it's also more affordable to get.

My thoughts as an owner of a 2011 4cyl Camry and a huge Toyota supporter and fan. - very happy that Toyota made an AWD Camry and Avalon. Disappointed that the system is not full time AWD and that it is not the more aggressive of the AWD systems. I figure if they want to compete with a Subaru system they need to step it up b/c Subaru AWD is best in market so will give me second thought if I’m at dealers looking in that segment - no way I’m paying 40k for a Camry - don’t care for the sport mode or the sport look when they only give a basic 4 with no turbo. Can’t stand paddle shifters as I learned to drive on a manual - overall I think they should continue w AWD systems for sedans but step it up if you want to see Subaru in the Northeast. Especially after going to VT recently and hearing everyone praise their Subie.

You clearly know nothing about AWD systems. All AWDs are “full-time.” That’s what makes them AWD instead of 4WD. Also, the Subaru’s system on their CVT cars is pathetic. This Camry system is actually more capable. Do research first, talk later.

I see more Accords than Camry's on the road, so... I think they are more desirable, better engine and better driving dynamics overall. I test drove one, but still chose the Camry over it, but I still think about how good the Accord was. If the Accord gets AWD, I'd trade my Camry in a heartbeat.
